Western Sydney Wanderers vs Melbourne City 1/1/2018 7:50PM

3-0 loss. 

I’ve been to every game we’ve played on New Year’s Day and there’s very few ****s ever given (beside the collective sigh of relief at half time when everyone can sit down and continue being hungover..).

I reckon this game could smash the record for the least amount of ****s given at a WSW game.

I’ll be there belting out a tune still

This a hard one to predict, Citeh aren't the most consistent of teams whereas we are what we are at the moment (i cant find the right words tbh)

This has the feel that it could either by a 5 goal thriller or a 1 nil snore fest.

My heart says us, my head says how the f can you pick one of these teams at the moment, so draw maybe?

so last round we get beat 4 nil Newcastle , Victory defeat City 1 nil , this round  Victory defeat Newcastle 2-1 and dominated so what score Wanderers v City, on last round form I say 3 nil lose sadly but !!!.  Lets hope our players get a life and Gombau sees some sense we come out with a will , desire and formation to be competetive !!!!

They were noisy from start to finish - and yes- they don't have much variety, but I don't think that matters tbh.

They don't do their round the stadium call - from stand to stand - any more which is such a pity.

But AAMI Park is a dream!

What did the Barmy Army get up to? Plenty of fun, I imagine.

AAMI park was great - easy to get in and out of, easy to get drinks etc, we parked across the road and had a footbridge virtually to our gate, fingers crossed our new parra is even better!

People may rag a little on WDWSF - but I think it gives us so much, would've loved to see them when they were 'organised' but it was still this wall of noise, and a proper football stadium is such a better experience all round, the new parra cannot come fast enough ffs

My positives in the last week: Club have backed Gombau with the caveat that (1) he was reminded that Wanderers have a winning culture/mentality (2) To be more pragmatic until he can bring in the players he wants to play the style he wants

Another big positive was a marker put down by the RBB confronting the players & coaching staff. It is clear that there is plenty of tension, rifts & a team in transition but they needed reminding of certain traits that have been missing the last few weeks. Something that should be applauded & im sure had they put a call out to more Wanderers fans, a lot more would have shown up.

On the field can I see much changing? Not really, can I see Gombau tempering his style? If he didn’t do it after the derby, why is he going to do it now? I could pretty much copy this paragraph and paste it in very pre match thread for the rest of the year. Even if we bring in a few players in January, it won’t be enough to change our fortunes or prevent the pain for the rest of the season.

Have been unwell in December and missed all our home & away games, looking forward to NYD

If we play like last week we will lose. Doesn't matter how many players they have missing. I just want to see some effort put in. Not thinking about the result at this stage.

"Aspropotamatis saya he is "behind (Gombau) 100 per cent".

"I had him at the Olyroos and we were really successful there," he told AAP.

"I know we can get results using his style of play, this very expansive and attacking football he wants.

"I've seen it first hand so I believe in his way of thinking and playing.

"All the things we're trying to do now we did in the Olyroos, and it paid off really successfully.

"From that standpoint I know results can come playing this way, it just takes a bit of time."......

"Results can come" in time - and coaches get sacked if their teams don't win.

Let's see if Gombau is still around by the time Aspro returns. I sure hope the boys start winning tomorrow.

Thing is that I haven't seen any qualities from Aspro of late to suggest he can perform this style of play.

You would expect that the players from the Olyroos would be right at home but I agree especially Aspro looks lost

Aspro has some of the best passing accuracy in the league, he's better suited than almost any other player in the squad at the type of possession based game. His major problems are that he needs to get his accuracy higher and make better choices when pressured by opposition players, and his lack of defensive pace.

The first can be worked on, and with team-mates learning to rotate, move & present options he can improve as well. The second can't be. I fear that ultimately, he's going to be too slow to be a truly good A-League central defender.

I’d agree he’s the best suited of our centre backs for project gombau philosophy ball.. However is confidence looks shot at the moment, hopefully he comes good as he basically the only junior we have brought through into being anything close to a first team regular. baby baccus aside (early days yet)
