Wanderers NPL vs Northern Tigers 18/6/2016 7:00PM
Taurus Posted June 17, 2016 In & Preview Northern Tigers v Western Sydney Wanderers Saturday 7pm Valentine Park Glenwood After losing to Marconi last time out, Northern Tigers will want nothing less than a victory when they meet Western Sydney Wanderers. Now fifth, a gap is starting to appear as the top three begin to pull away and if there is a further loss of points this weekend, it is likely that the Tigers will be playing for fourth, at best. They suffered a 2-0 defeat back in round three but will be confident in being able to turn the tables this time around. Western Sydney Wanderers’ point on Tuesday, coupled with Sydney FC’s draw on Wednesday, means that the Wanderers stay just one point behind the Sky Blues at the head of the table. One point from their past six means that this weekend’s visit to Northern Tigers takes on even greater importance. With Bankstown City ready to take advantage of any further slip, the Wanderers could find themselves falling off the pace with another loss of points here. Prydzopolis 1 Link to comment
Taurus Posted June 18, 2016 NPL Preview: Northern Tigers v WSW image: http://www.wswanderersfc.com.au/di/library/Western_Sydney_Wanderers/b4/e2/kyle-cimenti-npl-spirit-fc_i9f6y6smlztd1ox2q4pf1dobo.jpg?t=1631438245 1/1 Northern Tigers is up next in our NPL season Saturday, 18 June 2016 - @JacobWindon After picking up one point from their last two matches the Wanderers are on the hunt for an important win when they take on fifth-placed Northern Tigers at Valentine Sports Park this Saturday evening. KICK-OFF: Northern Tigers v Western Sydney Wanderers. 7pm Saturday at Valentine Sports Park A 4-3 loss to Mt Druitt Town Rangers was followed by a 1-1 stalemate with Spirit FC last Tuesday in a pair of results that places Trevor Morgan’s side one point away from competition frontrunners Sydney FC after 15 matches. The Wanderers were comfortable 2-0 victors when the two outfits met in Round 3 with goals from Mario Shabow and Liam Youlley enough to continue the Red & Black’s bright start to their National Premier Leagues excursion. The wave of momentum that accompanied Western Sydney’s charge towards promotion has turned significantly from that period of the season and it will be another youthful Wanderers side that greets Northern Tigers in Saturday’s Round 15 clash. The reigning 2015 PS4 NPL Men’s 2 Champions were edged 3-2 by Marconi in last weekend’s action and with Saturday’s date with the Wanderers followed by a trip to Lambert Park to face leaders Sydney it will be a pivotal slew of matches for the Steve Hurd coached side. Forward Liam McConaghy was a crucial figure in the side’s championship triumph last season and the Tigers marksman represents the central goal scoring threat for the opposition on Saturday having netted seven goals in 15 matches this season. Kyle Cimenti has meanwhile emerged as the Wanderers’ main man in the final third in the absence of Lachlan Scott and the former Sydney United 58 product has gone some way in filling the void left by the Hyundai A-League bound striker with four goals (including a hat-trick against Mt Druitt Town Rangers) in his last two matches. Taurus Posted June 18, 2016 Lacklustre performance from our lads tonight. Game was pretty much played between the 2 penalty boxes & neither keeper was called upon to do much work. 15yo Moudi Najjar came on as a late sub & appeared to have won the game, but his delicate chip over the advancing keeper was miraculously cleared off the line. This new crop of lads need to learn some game smarts. At least Mt Druitt came back from 2 nil down to beat the Smurfs 3 - 2. Alexander, Edinburgh, Nel and 2 others 5 Link to comment

Taurus Posted June 20, 2016 Wanderers share NPL lead after draw with Tigers image: http://www.wswanderersfc.com.au/di/library/Western_Sydney_Wanderers/43/b7/jordan-morfitis-npl-northern-tigers_10vyvdg21nam41mxhon3fykvff.jpg?t=1796924405 1/1 Jordan Morfitis scores the opener with a brilliant chip over the keeper Monday, 20 June 2016 - @wswanderersfc The Western Sydney Wanderers let a golden opportunity to re-take the lead at the top of the table slip when they conceded a late equaliser against Northern Tigers in the PS4 NPL2. With Sydney FC blowing a two goal lead against Mt Druitt to lose 3-2, the Red & Black looked on course to take the outright competition lead but an 83rd minute Tigers goal meant the points were shared.image: http://images.performgroup.com/di/library/Western_Sydney_Wanderers/a4/8/jordan-morfitis-cameron-devlin-npl-northern-tigers_13dbl25hsuwbx1q9vlu784m6e3.jpg?t=1800523893 Regardless, the result was enough for the Wanderers to move to 34 points, sharing the NPL2 lead with their cross-city rivals. The match itself was devoid of clear-cut opportunities with both sides having to do their best with a number of half-chances that were created. Tariq Maia had the first of these chances early in the match when the midfielder found some space on the edge of the box, unfortunately for the Red & Black his shot went wide. It wouldn’t take too much longer for the Wanderers to take the lead though as Jordan Morfitis scored his first goal at NPL level in only his sixth appearance. Latching onto a wide ball and finding himself with some space in the box, Morfitis spotted the keeper off his line and chipped the ball over him: a beautiful finish. Northern Tigers finished the half with two chances in succession as first they hit the outside of the post before winning possession high up the pitch and shooting off-target. The second half was an even less enterprising affair with no chances of note until seven minutes to go when Tigers scored the equaliser. Finding the ball in the box, Northern Tigers had a number of shots as the ball ricocheted around the goalmouth until it was finally poked into goal to cue massive celebrations amongst the home team. A winner was almost scored for the Red & Black when, in the third minute of additional time, substitute Moudi Najjar’s deft chip looked certain to be the winner until a Tigers defender came out of nowhere to miraculously clear the ball away from the line and over the bar. The point sees Wanderers share top spot with Sydney FC while Tigers remain in fifth. Next Saturday the Wanderers return home, taking on Bankstown City Lions at Blacktown Football Park. Kick-off is 7pm. Do you think these lads will be intimidated by the likes of Bankstown and Marconi? Most sides have attempted to intimate the young lads we put out on the park. Some games get pretty willing, although they usually drop off that tactic after 30 mins, as they're gasping for breath by then. Alexander 1 Link to comment
