Admin: I've promoted this to an article as there are already comments in the thread and I would like to keep them. Also moved to the Western Sydney Wanderers sub-forum as that is viewable by the public.

As I'm sure a few of you have already seen on the various forms of social media, one of our own, Nato, has been diagnosed with cancer. :( :(

He's a great bloke, spending heaps of his own time making flags for the RBB - you'll often see him in the front of Bay 55, proudly waving the giant 55 flag.

A fundraiser has been organised for this SUNDAY 21st DECEMBER, at CENTRAL GARDENS, MERRYLANDS, to help raise some money for him & his family through these tough times.

If you're free on Sunday, be sure to come along!! And be sure to spread the word.

Is there another way to contribute if you can't attend on the 21st?

Yes - word is that there WILL be other fundraisers and ways to contribute in the future.

Once things are announced, I'll post back here. :)

Damn man! Wish NATO all the best, met him and a couple of the other bay 55 dudes up in brizzy at a pub the day before the final, was great fun having an excessive drink with the bloke. I still have a Bay 55 sticker in my merch collection back home. Sadly stuck in N.Z for the next year otherwise would be joining my mates back home in heading to this on Sunday.

ADDN INFO, just posted by RBB:

    Nato’s Story

Nathan “NATO†Berthaly is a long term Wanderers fan and loved member of the RBB family. Nato has worked tirelessly designing and creating flags for our terrace. If you’ve been to a Wanderers game, or even watched one on TV, you’ve seen his amazing work and the colour it helps bring to Wanderland.

During this time, Nato and his family have been fighting a battle at home. Some years ago, Nato’s wife, Kelly, contracted a dangerous infection that caused her body to shut down. As a result she spent 3 weeks in ICU in an induced coma. On top of the initial infection, Kelly then contracted a staphylococci infection while hospitalised. Unfortunately the damage done by these infections is permanent and her condition now is deteriorating. She is unable to work and has seriously limited functionality. Kelly regularly spends prolonged periods in the hospital. Nato is the “rock†for his family. Yet, through this entire time, he has given his heart and soul to his support for the Wanderers and the RBB. It has been the perfect place to take his 2 kids (13 & 16) and forget the difficulties life is throwing at them. Although, instead of just coming and relaxing, he gives everything he has to help create the amazing game day atmosphere we all love. His contribution has been nothing short of amazing.

As if this was not difficult enough, last week Nato was diagnosed with kidney cancer. Unfortunately the initial prognosis is severe and as a consequence, he has been hospitalised indefinitely. This effectively leaves his children with 2 incapacitated parents, both with minimal opportunity for recovery. The situation is critical and significant assistance is required to get Nato back to his family and to ensure his family receives the care they require and deserve. As a result, we are asking for any assistance you can offer. An account has been set up for donations (details will be released in the coming days) and every little bit will help. Aside from monetary donations, any other assistance will be both welcomed and appreciated. With both parents incapacitated, even the simplest things are now difficult for this family.

So please help in any way you can, even if it’s just sending some positive energy Nato’s way. It all helps.

Everyone should try and come down. Even for a short time. Heaps of great prizes in the raffles, guest appearance from players and things for the kids. And most importantly, for one of our own

Just got home, was running around a bit today so couldn't stay at the fundraiser too long!! Was great to see so many people get together from our club to support NATO and his family. Nearly 10k for the auction of items from players, the $10 entry fee for 500 people would be 5k, the raffle I think between 4-6k and that's not including individual donations or the sausage sizzle. All of it going to someone who desperately needs it! Well done to everyone who donated, the local businesses, the players, WSW members/fans and to the RBB who did all the hard work in getting the event organised! It was a great effort by all involved and just another reason why I love this club.
