  • Wanderers To Play At Olympic Park

    mack

The Western Sydney Wanderers have confirmed playing matches at Sydney Olympic Park during the demolition and rebuilding of Parramatta Stadium.

While their home stadium is being rebuilt, the Wanderers have confirmed they will play approximately 8 matches at Spotless Stadium, with 4 matches at ANZ Stadium including both Sydney Derby matches. It is likely that matches against Melbourne Victory will be the other games to be played at ANZ, although it may include a match against NSW rivals in the Central Coast Mariners & Newcastle Jets.

The move will allow a much greater number of ticketed memberships to be sold, and also beckons a record breaking crowd for an A-League match with an expected Sydney Derby crowd over 55,000 patrons. The ANZ Stadium Twitter account has posted that the 2016/17 A-League season will be kicked off with a Sydney Derby match.

Parramatta Stadium is expected to take three Wanderers seasons to be built, with the new stadium opening sometime in 2019.

My suggestion for spotless seating allocation..

I hope the club can take note.

Nice one. That Suttor Stand looks like it might be a bit of a push to have Cat A on the bottom level though?

    $25 a game. Ridiculous.

    What's $25 a game?

    Parking at Olympic Park.

    Wow.

Maybe the club will do a deal as part of member's packs?

Not that it'll affect me. I only have to drive on the odd occasion and you can park in streets nearby and near close train stations too.

That map looks pretty good as far as seating goes.

    It's a yes from me.

I like it except that I'm generally not a fan of Cat A and Cat B are sitting right next to each other. Where possible Categories should be divided by stand and/or height, not just an aisle.

    I see... BIG gaps.

One good thing - give the away bay no roof and a fair distance to the field and they will not be being heard by anyone!

Confirmed Sydney Derby to open season 2016/17 in October - round 1

Thats silly. Quality will be average, round 1 rust evident. Wanna put on a show then let it happen a few rounds in.

Also... 6 days after RL GF gives pitch no time to repair. FFA logic.

Add to that the papers will be full of post GF stories so airtime to promote the match is limited. Needs a clear runway.

As long as they have wheelchair bays in the RBB or close to I'll be content with the new stadiums.

I had a quick look around during the Easter Show Andy, as long as the RBB is in the lower tier at Spotless you should be ok - might be an issue with visibility if people are standing up though.

The RBB wouldn't be the same without our Powerchair team.

The FFA logic is start the season with a bang. The neutrals still caught up in the buzz of an NRL grand final will want to see another big game. The spotlight on the match will be huge.

For the coaches, players, members and actual fans, a derby in Round 1 is absolutely ridiculous.

When I went to Perth and we played them at Subiaco, the pitch wasn't smack bang in the middle. I don't know if it's smack bang in the middle at Etihad either.

Can you move it 8-10m closer to the RBB end and away from the scoreboard end?

Not too concerned about rust for the derby - the games are normally battles anyway. But I prefer a week 3 derby. First round, week 2 Melb derby, ours.

Also, if there are concerns about the Big Bash, Easter Show etc, wouldn't it make sense to hold the derby back for when the ground isn't available? I guess marketing etc etc

Your pitch is a bit large the reality is most of the seats will be 40-60m from the pitch . Hope the club will take this into account with pricing , if we end up paying the same price for a seat that's 40m further back people will be pissed off .

Atmosphere wise I think the potential is there for the RBB to really increase the noise level. Not only is the Fairfax end fully roofed the adjacent stands also have a roof creating quite an enclosed feel to that end of the stadium, the stands also have a good rake to them, shame they are so ******* far from the action though.

Just shift the pitch as far down the Fairfax end as possible, only away fans and a few kids down the other end anyway.

I know of a few people that are thinking twice about renewing membership for the next 2years. As we will not be filling the stands (apart from Derby day) it will be wise for the club to issue a membership retainer for a low cost. This will give people priority for public tickets and full membership when we go back to Parra.

Also the tickets at homebush should be cheaper than Parra....I'm sure they will pump up the prices when we get the new stadium.

It's hard for the club to win with this decision. Either way some people are going to be disappointed with what they get, whether thats being further from the action or having to sit on a hill, and will probably end up losing some fans for a little while. On the upside maybe some of those members who don't bother turning up might not renew. I at least hope we take a few games to places like campbelltown and penrith. At least then we can make some new fans to fill up the seats at spotless and eventually the new seats in parra.

The facilities at Spotless are 193843732003 times better than what they are at Parramatta. Get over that we're going to be a little bit further away than normal.

Over it. I'll give it a shot. If other factors don't work out then I'll make a decision for whats best for me.

I never wanted to move there but if thats the decision then I'll suck it up. Cheers :good:

Well WSW will have at least 2 new members next season as we will be joining the ride.

It'll sort out the die hard fans. They'll get first pick in the new joint.
