Australian Stadiums Discussion (Excluding Parramatta)

Socceroo's are different though, that is the way the FFA is raising money to fund the game (and there salaries  )

A-League games though? Seats shouldn't be anymore expensive than 15-20 for an adult, especially for our games at ANZ. It should all be about exposure and getting as many people to the game as possible.

I know our club made a pretty penny out of the first derby so can understand higher prices for derby games. But the MV game and the Perth game on NYD? Please...

The FFA are charging ticket prices for Socceroos games based on the same model as prior 2006. At the time, the appetite was for premium games and the A-league had just started.

Now we are expected to pay for A-league memberships and pay exorbitant prices for Roos games (and fund David Gallop $1m salary). Blood out of a stone. Plus the other prices rises for just living, I'll sit at home and watch on the box than give FFA any money. The only exception are Wanderers finals.

NSW premier pulls the pin on secret $3b stadiums plan

Sydney's stadium wars have taken a dramatic turn, with ANZ and Allianz Stadiums potentially receiving only glorified make-overs after Premier Gladys Berejiklian pulled the pin on a secret $3 billion proposal.

The NSW government's stadiums policy has now been described as being in "paralysis".

The premier met NRL boss Todd Greenberg yesterday evening, with the league heavily expecting to be told the government was prepared to completely redevelop both stadiums, as well as throw money at Pepper Stadium in Penrith and upgrade facilities in regional areas.

9NEWS understands Ms Berejiklian told Mr Greenberg she is willing to spend $900 million on upgrading ANZ Stadium.

Mr Greenberg is understood to have been shocked, expressing to Ms Berejiklian that the NRL wants a world class venue and they won't get it for that price.

The arrangement with former premier Mike Baird was the NRL would only guarantee games if a "world class stadium" was built.

"We've discussed the needs of the NRL, they are one of many stakeholders," NSW Sports Minister Stuart Ayres said.

It is understood the business case for ANZ Stadium redevelopment had a range of options costing between $900 million and $1.6 billion.

The cheaper option is widely regarded in sporting circles to be a substandard outcome.

The upper tier of the stadium will stay where it is, rather than come in closer to the action.

Ms Berejiklian announced on her trade trip to Tokyo last week that she will "spend what we need to" to attract big global events, like the 2023 Women's FIFA World Cup.

"If we have to spend more, we will," Ms Berejiklian told 9NEWS.

Mr Ayres has presented the premier with a plan for a more than $3 billion spend over the next 10 years.

i don't want a world class stadium.

i just want one that has

  • safe standing
  • steep rake
  • close to pitch
  • in parramatta
  • and a ******* kebab shop inside

And that's what we are getting :good:

Looks like ANZ will get significantly short changed with this bizarre about turn, going from spending $3b on all stadia to >$1b to do the bare minimum required on ANZ

Disastrous if we get the shoddy rebuild, if you're going to do it. Do it properly ffs :nono:

The NRL has Friday, Saturday & Sunday matches so I don't see how they can have 4 other games?

Junior/reserve grade matches are usually held beforehand.

Must be youth games.

So why no ANZ next weekend?

Friday, September 8

Sydney Roosters (2) v Brisbane Broncos (3), Allianz Stadium at 7.55pm

Saturday, September 9

Melbourne Storm (1) v Parramatta Eels (4), AAMI Park at 4.10pm

Saturday, September 9

Manly Sea Eagles (6) v Penrith Panthers (7), Allianz Stadium at 7.40pm

Sunday, September 10

Cronulla Sharks v (5) v North Queensland Cowboys (8), Allianz Stadium at 4.10pm

None of them play out of Homebush.

Stadium confusion

Well, that went well.

There was cautious optimism earlier in the week that NRL chief executive Todd Greenberg would meet with NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian on Monday afternoon and finally nut out this godforsaken stadium situation.

Greenberg had told all club chief executives last Friday both ANZ and Allianz stadiums could be out of play at the same time as both received substantial upgrades after the premier had said the week before she was prepared to fork out more than the allocated $1.6 billion set aside to bring Sydney's stadia up to scratch.

As reported by Fairfax Media, there was also a possibility that work could start on a knock-down and rebuild of Allianz as soon as May next year – something Ms Berejiklian confirmed to the media on Monday morning.

Alas, another day, another backflip. She told Greenberg she was basically giving ANZ Stadium about $800 million and that's about it. Good times.

Wake me up when this is over.

The next time the Wanderers are playing the Newcastle Jets in an aleague match, the in stadium screen should be larger and vaguely familiar because it is the old screen from Parramatta stadium which was installed by our sponsors Mitsubishi Electric in 2012.

I was wondering what was going to happen to our old screen.

Good to see VenuesNSW putting it to good use.

The benefit of having one organisation looking after all NSW stadiums. And another reason to scrap the divisive SCG Trust and bringing all stadiums together under VenuesNSW.

"Football Federation Australia have also made a 12-year commitment to Sydney on the proviso ANZ Stadium gets a major facelift, however strong lobbying from the powerful SCG Trust and sports minister Stuart Ayres has thrown plans in the air."

"There is a push, backed by the Sydney Roosters, to build a 35,000-seat stadium at Moore Park – something the NRL believes is a sensible alternative to the 50,000-seat proposal being considered by government. The NRL haven't moved from its original ambition to have a 30,000-seat stadium in Parramatta, a permanent rectangular major events stadium at Sydney Olympic Park and then, if funding allowed, a boutique 35,000-40,000-seat stadium at Moore Park on the existing site occupied by Allianz Stadium."
