Crowd at SFS 6,442.

Kiddies at home

And they still had a chance wait till next home game especially if they lose the next away game....the crowd will be under 5k

We talk about no howlers in the UCL champions league, 17 mins in Spurs give away a stonewall penalty. Assistant and Additional assistant referee get the call wrong, VAR would over turn that, clear error. Even referees at the very top level make mistakes.

So second half, must say it was an improved performance by them but that first half performance hurt them.

The turn around was when Simon came off, Bobo was a class act when he came on & fashioned two chances, very good chances that they could not put away. The issue with Simon is that he can run but not do much else, much like Kubi who was a key player for us in the ACL winning side. The issue with Simon is that the central position is vital for starting the attacks, it’s hard to believe that they can’t find anyone else.

Adrian M, so good in the A-League but was not good enough last night. Interesting that he got a lot of praise this season but without Ninko coming deep to get the ball & starting things they seem like a different team. Justifies his decision I guess to exclude Buljis.

Unfortunately, that was as good as it got for Sydney FC. Antlers were too good, such a gulf in class between the two sides. You wonder whether Arnie had a deeper squad, rotated for the Newcastle game & had fresh players that the result would be different. They started so slow, ordinary first half & just didn’t have enough up front.

Referee was very good. Gave the players a free challenge, warned them on the next & carded the following. Made it very clear the sort of challenges that he was not willing to let both players get away with. Slater was funny complaining about the referee. The Kalik challenge was similar to the one on O’neil in the first half. The Kalik one “oh that would definitely been a card in the A-League” not realizing he had been on the field less than a minute & got warned the next one will be a Card. The O’neil one? Complaining no end about how much a terrible challenge, should have been a Card etc etc. Completely ridiculous. I also enjoyed his “but he was going for the ball line, so that’s why it wasn’t a Card”. The guy has no idea.

You also wonder how much Arnie’s cocky attitude played a part in that match. He was so confident, so bullish about what was going to happen. You question what motivation that gave the opposition or whether they knew not to underestimate them constantly talking up how they were the best etc etc.

It was his choice to use 2-3 squad spots to pay for Adrian and have a smaller squad.

So next game possible that Ninkovic and Zullo will be missing. Bobo has picked up a back injury.

And how many goals have the smurfs scored in this ACL campaign

100%

Theyve got a very small squad. They even signed Ferreira but refuse to play him in the A-League. It’s there downfall right now, it works very well in A-League. 3 marquees in the starting lineup every week, no 3+1 for ACL & they have a quality side. Arnie made it clear his policy, no youth players good enough to start & no national team players.

Its clearly a great tactic for the A-League but not for Asia. You wonder why they didn’t sign any ACL only players, money isn’t an issue for the Russian guy. Has been losing buckets for years, why not throw some money for success in Asia.

My two questions/realizations:

(1) Would WSW do the same for success in the league but not in Asia?

(2) Lots of people have been lauding Arnie & pushing him as the only candidate for the national team coach after the World Cup. After what I’ve seen, I wonder whether sentiment will change now after what’s happened in ACL

Arnie has proven once again that he doesn't cut it on the international scene....but hope he will do ok with the Socceroos for Australia's sake.

One thing to keep in mind is they lost 2 home games against teams just out of pre season and in yesterday game playing with their second team.

1. We need a trophy next year and two the year after. Worry about ACL when we get back there. The issue is if we go full Arnie with 13 players we will probably get all the injuries that sfc avoided in the last two years and get destroyed.

2. Well he's being announced in about 30 minutes so no.

Kashima made 8 changes to their starting XI that played on the weekend. 6 were left at home and 2 on the bench.

Arnie comes out post game and bemoans that JL have 35 man squads and can rotate with ease.

Someone tell him that ACL is limited to 30 man squads for everyone and he didn't fill that quota. What a cop out excuse.

Brosque still saying "you can't make mistakes like that at this level", after MatchDay 3.

Popa said that after our MD1 loss to Ulsan. We learnt quickly.

We can’t laugh at poor crowds at the moment

Lol yes we can.....when we were top of the league and winning....you couldn't get a ticket to our games.

They are the Champions, top of the league record breaking team and get crowds similar to us. A team that might not even make to the finals.

Smurfs tonight without

Bobo (Simon starting)

O’Neill (Zuvela starting)

Zullo (Retre starting and Wiltshire to LB

Ninkovic (Kalik starting)

Carney

bench

ben warland, Lokinglingoy, Mutch, Flottman, Bandiera, Cisak

they look like they have given up on the ACL this year.

by contrast, Melb Victory playing their strongest possible side.

I'm hoping the $murfs cop a hiding....lose by 5 or 6 or more ....It's what they deserve.
