Melbourne City could become defender Scott Jamieson's fifth A-League club, as he heads home after being released by Sweden's IFK Goteborg.

Central Coast Mariners are also a possible option for the pacy 28-year-old, who made 26 appearances after heading to Scandinavia 10 months ago from Western Sydney Wanderers.

Goteborg's sports director Mats Gren explained on the club's website that Jamieson had been released for "family reasons" and he "may go out on loan or sign for any club".

Indications are, assuming an A-League return is Jamieson's immediate priority, that he could become new Melbourne City coach Warren Joyce's first signing since taking charge this week.

The club are in the market for an Australian left-back and Jamieson - whose other A-League clubs include Sydney FC, Adelaide United and Perth Glory - appears to tick a number of boxes.

The rebuilding Mariners, who have made a number of impressive off-season signings, are also understood to be keen but City are in the box seat.

thats a nothing article. basically looking at who needs a left back, then picking the richest team as the most likely to sign him.

Oh oh...someone let the Australian sokkah journalism trade secret out of the bag.

Would love to see Jamo back in red and black, but I reckon Clisby deserves more time as our LB. JC improved substantially in 2016/17 with Popa contrasted with his time at Heartless, and it would be good to see a similar trajectory next season. Plus 'The Jack Clisby Experience' is a great trivia quiz team name.

Importantly: "The advent of Stanogevits not changed the situation for Greek-Australian who will discuss with Lubos Michel whether to go to another team in Europe, he wants to retry his luck away from Australia."

Where's the 'Troisi still hasn't got a club why hasn't he been snaffled by Popa' talk?

Maybe people have finally realised it's not realistic? Apparently he was on seven figures with Victory, who must have seen him as a stop-gap after they failed to get the ok for the Europeans they wanted. Now the reports are that he is holding out for more wages from Brighton. Is this guy a twat, or is he just thick and his agent's a twat? Just sign mate, stop ruining your career over dollars.

Facts and history never stopped interwebz rumours...

I reckon those socceroos without gigs will get decent gigs, because of the confederation cup being in the spot light.. but I'd kill for kruse or troisi in red and black
