  1. RBB had everything signed off with stadium and security to take the banners down and go back to their bay. Cops wouldn't allow them back in their bay (that they have tickets for) apparently and a scuffle broke out and 20+ arrested or kicked out. So the rest of the rbb left. Had nothing to do with the team who lost the game themselves. Blow ins blaming the rbb for the loss because they walked out have nfi and we'll never see them again until next derby where they expect to turn entertained by the rbb as if they are dancing monkeys at a circus. Ita quite clear the riot squad had a pre determined agenda, probably to shift the narrative this week to take away the focus of one of their own. Football wise, Rudan is correct to praise Zdrillic. He's been overseas for a few years and has learnt a thing or two.

  3. Those saying Sydney were unlucky think that possession means dominating. They had the ball but did nothing with it. We killed them on the counter all 2nd half and won every header on every set piece. SFC have no strikers as evident when they had a half chance they blew every single one, and Fabio is a fraud. Did he even play last night? Thomas is the real successor to Covic (finally) and we all knew it when we signed him. Extend his contact please because he's been the best GK in the league since he returned to play for us.

  4. Having a double header against a NSW club, on a Sunday night, isn't the best of decisions. It's not realistic for people to leave home at 1:00 PM, and not get home til 10:00 PM. To be out for 9 hours!! Especially with work / school the next day. I'm all for encouraging people to attend Women's matches - but gotta be realistic.

  5. Fair points, but does require some rebuttal: Signed a dud foreign striker, then unlike previous years accepted the mistake and brought in one of the best attacking players we've ever had in Layouni who freed up Borrello to go on to score at nearly a goal a game. In fairness signing a decent squad in and of itself is far better than we've done in recent years. It's a bit harsh having a dig at a CB for not scoring this season when we had the best defensive record in the league by a decent margin. I would have thought stopping the other team from scoring was the primary role for a CB, being able to score would be a distant second to that. In that regard Marcelo did his job and did it well, if we're not scoring then our CBs aren't where I'd start looking for fault. Being unable to score from free kicks seems to be a Wanderers thing, have we ever been able to score from them at any point in time? Not saying it's acceptable, in my uneducated opinion I would have thought that's something that could be drilled into the team. Do we need to bring in a specialist coach to help out with this problem? I hope we don't see a cleanout. Unlike previous seasons there's a lot to build on here. The team definitely does need some tweaking but I think the team, and Rudan, will learn painful valuable lessons from last night.

  6. I’ve lost count of the number of games we’ve dominated over the years and found a way to lose. It’s nice seeing that baffled, deflated look on the opponents this time.

  7. Nope. I have to disagree here. This has been raised on other socials for Wanderers and I have to stand by Marcelo. He was never vocal about it on socials or in public, he never voiced his opinion all he did was refuse to wear it. He is very much entitled to, quiet frankly I wouldn't have noticed if people didn't pick it up so its a non issue because he has kept his opinion private. By not vocalising his opinion he has respected the club's stance and the league's stance. By not wearing the armband the club and league have respected his view. Not everyone is going to agree with LBGT brand sponsored events and we cannot force them either. I Respect his stance and move on because again not everyone is going support "pride" that is reality. If he came out like Musa Toure who voiced his opinion on insta, then yea we have an issue. But Marcelo didn't he has been in the game long enough to understand it. By doing what he did its been handled privately and respectfully.

  8. LETTER FROM CEO SCOTT HUDSON REGARDING THE SYDNEY DERBY INCIDENT Dear Wanderers members and fans, I wanted to provide you all with an update following the recent incident at the Sydney Derby. Following the club’s review of footage from Saturday night’s Sydney Derby, we have immediately requested the overturning of the bans on several passionate supporters from the club’s active supporter base. Venues NSW has committed to providing the club and its banned supporters with a response on the overturning prior to the Wanderers next match at CommBank Stadium on Friday night. We are very disturbed by the feedback we have received from various parts of the stadium regarding their experience last Saturday night. There is clearly a broader issue and we stand in solidarity with our members and fans. Firstly, we have taken the initial steps of a full review of operational procedures and planning around match day. To be clear, the TIFO banner at Saturday night’s Sydney Derby was approved prior to the match day by all relevant stakeholders. Furthermore, we are urgently seeking a meeting with senior representatives from NSW Police and Venues NSW to discuss these issues. With consideration to recent incidents in football around the country, the Wanderers are calling for an All of Game response to current processes and safety procedures. The Wanderers are seeking a National Response from all football stakeholders to ensure that venues all around the country are safe for supporters to support their team, no matter where you are in the stadium. We will be keeping you updated with further progress of these discussions and thank you for your ongoing support of your football club. Scott Hudson Western Sydney Wanderers CEO

    Campbelltown Ref Robbery

Every team sets up trying to balance the risks of leaving gaps in defence with the rewards of having more players forward. We have the second best defence in the league, having conceded only one more goal than the undefeated Victory and equal with first placed Nix, even after conceding four in a game. Our problem is we aren’t scoring enough goals. Yet people are worried we aren’t leaving our fullbacks deeper, defending more, and having even less in attack? Our best attacker is still injured, our best midfielder isn’t fully fit after injury, another starting midfielder is out injured, we’re constantly rotating through centre backs due to injury, our best fullback is suspended, we played 40 mins with 10 men, we played the first half with a backup keeper who had a concussion, and the second half with a jet lagged keeper who hasn’t trained with the team for a month. Yet after all that had Germain been correctly sent off we win that game. Had the last goal not been incorrectly awarded we don’t lose that game. We played well enough to win the game were it not for a refereeing catastrophe. Sure we could just win every game 5-0 so the referee doesn’t matter (inset Hank Scorpio “why didn’t I think of that” meme) but you can change the results of almost every game in the league if you add or remove two goals. I don’t understand the theory that Rudan will use it as an excuse for the result. Managers are allowed to say one thing publicly in the media and another to the players privately. He’s not going to publicly blame the players and effectively let the referees off the hook. But that doesn’t mean he’s oblivious to how we play and isn’t privately working on it with the squad. Also I don’t really buy too much into the bias thing. I think every team gets screwed by referees but fans remember the times it’s them and forget the times it isn’t. I just think the referees are useless and the APL is too incompetent to do simple things like put cameras on the most important lines on the pitch. In a serious league the VAR would be stood down after that performance. Missing a clear case of violent conduct and upholding a goal when there’s no video evidence of it crossing the line should get you dropped. Also Germain should get a ban from the match review panel. But that would mean admitting an error, and we’re a pub league so nothing will happen.

  14. We lost this last week, instead of playing for a draw at 2-2 we open up and cop that late goal to force us for a derby knockout. We would have played Nix and then Mariners.

  15. That was the best performance by a WSW team I’ve seen in person at Wanderland 2.0 since we moved back to Parra. Possibly the most complete win against the Nix since the Gombau-Wow era. if the team can repeat that standard of football in the coming weeks we might have more than a sniff of the dunny seat

    Rudan It's Time To Go

I went to the game tonight, not to cheer on the team, but to see what sort of response they showed after last week. It was important that we bounced back as a club, and gave the fans a response after the worst derby performance of all time last week. The response tonight said it all about where we are as a football club. Firstly - I can almost understand not making many changes to the team, giving the starters from last week a chance to redeem themselves. Not what I would have done, but I can almost understand. However, to make one change, dropping a 19 year old kid who was played out of position in the derby, sends alarm bells. Secondly - If Lawrence Thomas is fit enough to be on the bench, he is fit enough to start. He was a f***ing Socceroo 4 weeks ago! The fact he wasn’t picked tonight confirms for mine there has been a falling out between Rudan, Thomas and the senior players. Third - Some of the players are actually trying. Some. Brook and Milanovic have tried all season and I’d be scared to see how bad we’d be with Hendrix and Marcelo. Borello is out of form but ran his absolute ass off, and was very vocal to his team mates all night, pressing high and hard whenever he could. Unfortunately for him, the player in behind who needed to press with him when we don’t have the ball, is Sonny Kittel. Kittel has become a bit of a scapegoat and I can understand why, he hasn’t offered much at all to the team, however I don’t think it’s because he isn’t trying, it’s because he isn’t fit. There were multiple times in that first half, even in the first 20 or 30 mins, when Borello needed help off the ball and Kittel just couldn’t get to where he needed to be. He was running on empty after 15-20 mins. The very few touches he has are fine, and there’s definitely a footballer in there, however he just doesn’t have the legs. Why, or whose fault that is, I don’t know. But he may as well not be there because he’s offering nothing. Finally - you can tell a lot from the players / coaches body language, and ours sucks. Rudan does not inspire anything on the sideline, spending most of the game slumped in his chair. I wanted to leave at 3-1, but waited for full time to watch the reaction of the players and coach at the end of the game, and it was not pretty. I get there was no RBB, but not one of the players or coaching staff came within 30m on the sideline to acknowledge the fans who did attend. Antonsson in particular was furious at full time, heading straight up the tunnel. I would be too, being subbed on for 4 mins when returning from a month long injury. Surely you either give him 20 mins to get some fitness so he can help next week, or you leave him on the bench to protect him. Marcelo to his credit at least acknowledged the frustration of some of the supporters and had a deep and lengthy conversation with an upset fan. He is clearly a leader, even if he hasn’t quite performed as good on the pitch this year, but just about every other player, and coach, slumped up the tunnel like they didn’t want to be there. We are done, Rudan is done, and there needs to be a massive change at the club.

  18. Went back and checked our goal being disallowed vs Macarthur's goal with a similar issue being allowed. Davila fouled his opponent by a reckless hand/elbow to the face on halfway to start an attack. The sideline reporter asked about it and it was made clear VAR ignored the foul because "too much play" took place before the goal. Davila fouled the WU player 15 seconds before the goal, and then there were 3 touches from a Macarthur player, then 2 from WU players, then Davila got the ball back to score as the final touch. 6 touches. Clisby's handball was 15 seconds before the goal and on halfway. After Clisby's touch it was followed by two touches by Melbourne City players, then WSW got the ball back with Badolato passing to Milanovic who then passed to Antonsson for the goal. 5 touches. Both goals were scored 15 seconds after a foul, and both goals involved two opposition players having the ball before losing it, in between the foul and the goal. One foul gets ignored because "too much play" took place between the foul and the goal. One where the foul isn't ignored even though the exact same amount of play took place with the other one where the goal stood. With the exact same VAR team (KGJ + Sarah Ho). No consistency. 21. Marko not fronting for the presser is a mark of the man and his weakness. Going to take a punt we have all had very hard days here, at work or other, perhaps a bad mistake. I know I have. But you have to front up the next morning or whatever…or you don’t pay your bills and keep a roof over your head. I have walked to a few situations in my life sick to the stomach wondering what will happen. Your average person doesn’t have the luxury of hiding behind someone else. For a man who bangs on about his Westie hard working man heritage….he prob did the most unWestie thing ever right. Just fir not fronting the presser he should go.

  22. I am probably to blame for this debacle. Earlier today I wrote a love letter to the club, and told them that in general they’ve sucked hiring coaching staff ever they let Popa go, and in particular that Rudan sucks balls big time. I wonder if my mail was intercepted by Rudan, and he was so disturbed by my assessment that it paralysed him, and he paralysed the team as a consequence. I should have considered that he is a sensitive soul. Sorry guys!

  26. Did I watch the same game as most of these pundits? We scored one, had one ruled out for a close offside, hit the crossbar, every corner Marcello looked like he was going to score and the only times they created a chance were from our errors. This thought that they were unlucky or didn't convert or whatever is absolute rubbish, they created **** all. Lolley was taken care of and that stopped any creativity they had. Hope Borello is ok, was absolute rubbish watching Bratten kick him off the park and not even get a talking to let alone a yellow. Thought Clisby did very well defensively this week and the way they doubled up on Lolley was superb, Beadling looks like he is settling in a bit better, Marcello well wow after this season he could be one of our best ever imports. Hendrix did his job well. Then all the kids played their part as well. Aside from a 20minute period in the middle of the second half I thought we pretty much never looked like losing. Not sure what I enjoy more seeing us on top or them in equal last.

  30. I would love nothing more, than for all of these innocent fans, that were assaulted by NSW Police and the Riot Squad, then consequently banned... to be given an invitation by the club to walk out with the players at the next game. Line up side by side with our players prior to kick off. Send a strong image to the rest of the country, all of the other codes that this is a "line in the sand" moment for "soccer" in this country. We salute you, Scott Hudson. I love this club.

  31. Rudan's post match press conference is Carl Robinson-like. Dellusional. He praised Lolley... well, you had Layouni in the palm of your hand and decided he wasn't worth the investment. Pierias is not NPL standard. He then praised FCs assistant coach, David Zdrilic, for getting Sydney to press the **** out of us for 90min. Season was over before it started. Whoever brought in Kittel should be fired. Probably the same person who decided to keep Ninko and was unable to find 2 visa players at the beginning of the season. Sapsford has shown more than Antonsson, with the limited time he's has on the pitch. Marko will probably drop him again. Playing Badolato in a defensive midfield role, was borderline criminal. The kid is an attacking mid. Derby cried out for Beadling in the middle of the park, to at least attempt to win a challenge or put in a tackle. Hendrix was bullied, and like Schneiderlin in last years semi final, went missing. I feel for Simmons. He had a tough night, but received the ball time and time again, with 3 Sydney players pressing him, and zero options ahead of him. Pierias is Sitirio 2.0 and runs around like a headless chook. Zero end product. PLAY THE KIDS AND BUILD FOR NEXT SEASON

  32. First derby I have not been to in almost 10 years. It was a gut feel not to go. I dunno why, it just was. I do however feel justified after that truly insipid performance. It actually wasn't much better watching it at home, although I stuck it through, regardless of how painful that was to watch. I'm not a bandwagoner, but I'm not ever going to waste cash that at times I cannot afford to spend. The most disappointing thing was our serious lack of effort, desire and cohesion. It was clear that Easts wanted this game more. Yet at no stage did I ever see us try and challenge that and turn the game around. With all of Rudan's huffing and puffing lately at press conferences and in the media, this was the absolute best opportunity for him and the team to make a ******* statement to the refs, the League and to an almost sold out home stadium. This was a derby ffs, and we submitted like kittens. That was the most disappointing thing for me. No heart, no fight, no aggression, and no hatred of the east side of town. I'm going to refrain from commenting on our tactics, except that still trying to play out from the back after 90 minutes, down 1-4, with Easts still pressing, just left me shaking my ******* head. Ultimately, it was just our lack of fight throughout the match that did my head in tonight. Yet every challenge from that other mob was aggressive and had purpose and desire, and generally resulted in turnovers. The RBB walking out as well from a home derby. I will not comment on that except that I'm sure they had their justified reasons as they have had in the past. They don't make decisions like that lightly. Without doubt the most humiliating derby ever.

  35. Just mulling over yesterday's events, a positive to take is young Tiger in goals, that first 10 minutes was a nightmare, he was jittery as f***, but we all saw how he tried to compose himself and settle into a rhythm with his backline, Newcastle packed around him every corner, that is serious pressure for the young fella to take, when he punched that ball out in a melee of players under his bar, great cheer went up and from that moment you could see him grow in confidence, whatever the future holds for him, the first team experience for him yesterday is going to be invaluable for him to kick on. you can work on your craft at the training ground with your coaches, but you cannot coach experience.

  36. I can usually laugh away the poor officiating in the aleague but that second yellow for Russell was blatant retribution for what happened all week. That was Rud’s punishment handed to him right there. Then if you didn’t need proof of how salty the referees are with WSW, Shaun Evans couldn’t wait to hand out a yellow to our bench when we equalised. He was so desperate for us to lose it would’ve burnt him to the core that we didn’t. Despite the fact I could’ve jumped the fence and throttled Shaun Evans in that moment, I haven’t seen an atmosphere/passion like that at parra in a long time. Thats just pure theatre and anyone who tries claiming they’re ’done with the aleague’ cause of it, is kidding themselves. It’s probably one of the best games I’ve been to since we returned to parra. Absolute roller coaster of emotions.

  38. Stop talking sense I want to get into some serious post game knee jerk "fold the club" "everyone out" "Primo man shouldn't be so tight" "who needs 12 training pitches" ranting! We are clearly far far better than we have been in last 6 or so years. Which is why that loss hurts, we are way better than them, we didn't lose to a great or even very good team. We lost to a team that pressed high and went into every tackle hard, while we stood deep didn't press and only switched on after going a a goal down. It was basically the MacArthur game again without the last minute goal Did Rudan say to them stay deep and protect the 1 0 or did the players do that themselves who knows? But we played into their hands, we let them in the game. Traroe header was stupid but if you let a team sit in your half and play balls into the box, that's what happens Push out ffs.. We just played very dumb football as we did in 2nd half against city. So now is this the start of a turnaround or just a one off? To me keeping key players will be the thing to make it a turnaround. Even our good years under Popa were built in sand, with the constant let players go and recruit again. This team is the first team since season 4, which I actually thing is a good one and hope the core stays. Get Morgan signed up, he looks like he wants to stay.

  39. Sure I get it, the RBB could have continued and not let the police agenda to disrupt the game, succeed. But really? Where was the club? Where is the league? It’s time for them to step up and ask questions. Why was there so many police in the stadium last night? What did they have to do with people returning to their ticketed locations? Time for the game to stand up. But it won’t. It will cower and pander.

SFC just wanted it..muscled us off the ball high press that we could not breakout of and gave the ball away. No structure at all in our play . No cohesion no initiative from the players at all..just terrible terrible terrible.. Looks like the dark days of troubles with the police are back too. Killed the atmosphere completely once rbb gone And just to top it off..smurfs sat right next to us. Why would anybody (unless smurfs tonight) want to pay big $$ to watch that. 46. Watched the replay, and despite us having so many good performers on the pitch, more credit must go to Schneiderlin for allowing those around him to flourish. No offence to Steven Ugarković or Keanu Baccus... but Schneiderlin's passing, positioning and screaning the back four, is light years ahead of what we've had in the past few years. Morgan is a real driving force behind this free-flowing beautiful football that we are currently playing, which allows Nieuwenhof to continue his incredible run of form. Calum is going to have an incredible career. I wish we could keep him for at least another season... this guy is on the level of a Kewell, Viduka or Cahill.

  47. That was one of our best ever footballing performances and that includes the early popa years. I cannot remember seeing the interchange passing being that good even in those days when we relied a lot more on defence to get results but wow that was slick. How good were we and how bad were Nix is the question I guess. Marcelo back was solid as, Thomas the same, Mrcela you have to give it to Rudan this bloke has had a great season considering he was not a popular signing. Simmons, Callum, Ninko, thanks Sydney, WTF were they thinking especially when they have no midfield. Amalf was good as well. Borello also need to give it to Rudan on this call as well, absolute machine. On the way home we were trying to give a 3-2-1 and just couldn't so that's a good sign. Big thanks to the RBB that was loud, pushing back the clock loud and hope we don't go down the boycott track cos with them we are a chance without maybe not so but anyway that is for others to decide. APL made a ridiculous decision, an absolute **** call no doubt but I like the fact that other clubs hate us so lets give them something more to hate. Scabs FMD Iv'e been called worse on the train on the way to work.
