It was a new year, but the same old result for the Western Sydney Wanderers, as they earned a 1-1 draw with Perth Glory at the Sydney Olympic Stadium tonight.

The only major surprise in the home teams lineup was the absence through injury of fullback Scott Neville, and he was replaced by utility defender Brendan Hamill. The Wanderers had a good opening 10 minutes, with Dimas Delgado having a wide lash at goal after neat wing play from Nico Martinez. Perth however took the lead after 14 minutes. Josh Risdon, Andy Keogh & Chris Harold combined to send Adam Taggart through on goal. The assistant missed an obvious offside from meters away, but Taggart cared little as he strode in on goal, and took advantage of poor goalkeeping from Jerrad Tyson to beat the keeper at his near post.

Tony Popovic had named a substitute bench including Kearyn Baccus & Jaushua Sotirio, and the pair combined to bring the home team back level in the 65th minute. Baccus picked up the ball near his own penalty area, continued toward halfway unchallenged, before lobbing the ball over a static Perth defence who had been caught square with Josh Risdon keeping Sotirio onside. The speedy winger had been deployed as a forward with the suspension of Brendan Santalab, and Sotirio took inspiration from the Wanderers leading scorer, as he slotted a neat finish past ex-Wanderer Liam Reddy.

Neither side were able to score a goal to provide a precious win, with Western Sydney looking increasingly likely to find themselves breaking the record of 11 draws in an A-League season.

Reports indicated that the Wanderers have Eli Babalj, the twice capped Australian international forward on trial from AZ Alkmaar of Holland and Tony Popovic may add him to a squad which is already set to include Terry Antonis & Vedran Janjetovic.

Ground hog day indeed. Its like popa just picks the same numbers for the lotto draw every time...

Play the same slow build up play with players who dont have a possesion based bone in their body. Start Bruno only to inevitably sub him off as we realise he offers nothing in our possesion based game and our defense consists of a naively chilled Aspro and slow Borda whome has to bail out all of Aspros, Dimas and Brunos passing mistakes. But we will as predicted concede that early first half goal and ride it out till half time for popa to blame the ref.

THEN, sub on Baccus. Play wirh urgency. Score an equaliser then revert to static possesion based football and leave our only Striker planted on the bench...

o well it might work one day!

Sotirio did well when came on, Jumpei is everything Fcb said he would be and and less

Baccus the younger played one great ball in

We need to create a bunch of 5 or 6 young squaddies who are home grown and get occasional game time. Sotirio, Baccus brothers, Scott, Aspro etc. The more experience they get, the better they will become over time. But you need them there just for some stability in the club. Hopefully more young players will come through over time.

Slow motion football, let's grind the opposition down with slow movement and ineffective passing between the lines and gift them the ball in the final third. I am dreading the Derby and the spanking we are going to cop.

Tonight, opportunities plenty but no directness.

On the bright side, starting to enjoy the draws, hopefully we can at least get the A League season record for the most draws in a season.

Transition slow, lacking spark to penetrate. Soft goal. We lack in a few areas but the coaching needs to be brought into question. Something needs to give. A spark from Antonis and potentially bridge could give us something to be hopeful about.

We are amazingly bad at set pieces

The thing we do with them that drives me totally nuts is we take quick free kicks in the opposition half only to then work the ball all the way back into our own half.

    Drives me insane

Yeah, also our crossing is so ineffective. We would be better off just kicking it out for a goal kick and saving me the heart palpitations.

On tonight's effort - Tyson shouldn't have been beaten at his near post, and made a howler passing it out. But that save late on was cracking.

Our counters are so slow my 89 yr old mother with her walker could keep up FFS. Movement off the ball in the final 3rd??? Fuuck all , clueless even. Fuuck arsing about again in defence nearly cost us the game in the final minutes !!! FMD , CLEAR THE FUUCKING BALL!!! Where's our passion , grint , chuntness to win gone? SMASH THE CHUNTS OFF THE PARK FFS!!!!!

I think we need a new captain. If Bridge comes back , give it to him .

We're gonna draw our way to the top 6 and win the gf...

Yep, draw the granny as well and win in a penalty shootout. That's how easy it is. Don't even need Popa. Infact Popa when you read this you can start holidays if u want.

Jumpei was horrible, couldn't see see him control one ball properly or even simple passes were being misplaced. Playing very poorly.

And Hamill wow! Talk about a player out of form. So slow, and misplaced just about every pass. Definitely shouldn't be starting esp at the full back position with our reliance on them going forward esp with no right winger.

Watching him attempt to answer a few simple questions in a pre-game interview, I had to wonder how effectively he is able to communicate with his team mates, or the coach. It was excruciating.

The only time he looked comfortable and communicated what he intended to, was when the interviewer thanked him at the end of the interview, and Dimas smiled in relief that it was over. I felt sorry for him, but wondered how easily he is able to fulfill the captain's role.
