  • Showground Curse Lifted Against Nix

    mack

The Western Sydney Wanderers cemented their hold on 6th place & the last final series place with a comfortable 3-1 win over Wellington Phoenix, for a first win at the Sydney Showground.

Wellington looked like they were still in the warmup early in the game, and the Wanderers took advantage for Nico Martinez to open the scoring. Scott Neville & Mitch Nichols kept the ball alive with a back & forth, Neville had to slide in with a challenge, fortunately it rolled across the penalty area to Martinez who shot first time on his right foot sending the ball into the bottom corner.

The visitors had a decent half hour following the goal but they copped a goal from Wanderers legend Brendon Santalab. Nichols broke down the left wing, strode in towards goal before providing Santalab with a simple pass at the edge of the penalty area. Santalab cut the ball back on his left foot then blasted his shot through the hands of Moss for.

After half-time Santalab had his brace, and became the Wanderers outright leading scorer, Jack Clisby's cross to the far post was found by Martinez, he took a touch then lofted the ball back into the 6 yard box, Santalab attacked the ball, slamming a header for the Wanderers 3rd goal.

Gui Finkler gave Wellington a glimmer of hope with a 76th minute free kick, Aspro was lucky not to have given away a penalty with another example of holding at a set piece, Finkler didn't need to be on the penalty spot, beaten Janjetovic with his sublime technique. The two goal deficit proved too much, as Wellington's effort fizzled out without making too much trouble for the Wanderers defence.

Western Sydney face Melbourne City in a key match as they head into the final series, and will need a comprehensive victory to give their supporters real hope that they can go all the way to the Grand Final.

Why will you never have one?

Cheese. Many of the other things I've seen on them.

Plus the smell, I used to struggle to be in the same room as a pizza.

    And they look like spew.

there many different types of kebabs you can get.

    - Doner Kebab

    - Shish Kebab

    - Adana Kebab

    - Iskender (Which is 1000 times better than a snack pack for all you dingos)(Go to All Star Kebabs in Auburn, they will hook you up)

to name only a few. But get one into you. you wont regret it. On a more serious note, don't put pineapple on your kebab, even if you like it on your pizza.

I still don't know what a kebab is.

Doner - leave out the red and green stuff and maybe - also not sure about the bread

    Shish - that's what I thought is a kebab - had several

Adana - similar response as for Doner

Iskender - I could at least pick at that

Never had a pizza either and never will.

    Love pineapple though.

You remind me of my old grandad on my mother side lol Wouldn't touch anything like pasta, far too exotic lol Never had pizza either, strictly a meat and two veg man, and the veg boiled to an inch of its life. Remember when we went for a family meal to a chinese when I was younger and he was horrified lol Wouldn't even touch the rice, he had a boiled egg and some cheese sandwiches in a bag under the table  :D  Daft old bugger lol

Geez, ease up Boro, I'm nothing like your grandad - I have 3 veg!

And you'll never catch me having a cheese sandwich.

Also, don't mind chinese - including when I courted my wife over many a meal at the Lui Rose in North Strathfield back in the early 80s.

No Jack not the 1880s - the 1980s!

I wonder if this sort of discussion happens on the GWS forum (if they even have one)?

You know, the only other team that truly represents western Sydney.

I'm guessing the answer is no.

They probably have a "4 and 20 Pie and a schooner of New" thread instead.

That'd be riveting stuff and a real cultural education.

since i've turned 30 i've started leaving my pickles on my maccas burgers, and even adding them when i get subway.

    mad adulting.

Weird **** starts happening as you progress through your 30's, I have started getting these long thick individual nose hairs that sprout over night, long ****ers......looked in the mirror the other day and thought I had a ******* spiders leg sticking out my nose....

Never understood people who took the pickle of the Macca's burgers. It's the best thing about the burger (along with the sauce).

When I go to subway I always have jalapeno's, pickles olives and onions in my sandwich. Always order Mexicana or pepperoni pizza, and my kebabs are always beef with hot chili sauce :)

Call me harsh but I don't completely buy into this 'schoolnight' excuse. Far more educational than some of the crap on TV at similar times and kids do need to get out !! I see that at whatever time we play there are excuses....schoolnight....too late....too hot...Friday traffic.....even Saturday nights finish late and there's all those hooligans around !! It's not just us as all A League clubs are suffering similarly. Admittedly Spotless is the pits but fortunately there's plenty of noise from the stalwarts who turn up. It does piss me off however that games always start 10-15 minutes later than the advertised time.

So 73k turn up at the MCG tonight to watch 2 teams well down the pecking order.....and guess what...on a schoolnight !!  Is this just a Sydney thing?

    Yes.

But it is also a Melbourne inferiority complex and cultural thing.

Melbourne folk love an event. The first 'footy' game is an event. They also don't really care about the Melbourne Cup or horse racing, but it's a great event to them and they don't want to miss it. FOMO is a massive thing south of the border. Also need to take into account that travelling around Melbourne is MUCH easier than Sydney. They also really only have major CBD, we have about 3 or 4, so we're much more spread out.

I've been to the same fixture before when I've been down there visiting family... what a weird bunch, seriously. *shakes head*
