The Western Sydney Wanderers finally broke their season long home victory drought, as they comprehensively outplayed the Newcastle Jets 2-0 at Campbelltown Stadium.

The match was a clash of two outfits in a similar place on the A-League ladder, but the conclusion was one of total dominance for the Wanderers.

Despite the return from suspension of Brendon Santalab, coach Tony Popovic elected to continue with Lachlan Scott up front, and his choice paid dividends right before half-time. Kearyn Baccus has finally started to look like challenging for a first team position and he punctuated his good performance with a killer ball through the middle of the Jets defence. Having found Scott, the young striker turned on the ball before lashing a clinical strike into the top right corner and giving Jack Duncan no chance to make a save.

The second half continued in the same vein as the first. Newcastle huffed & puffed but never truly looked like bothering the scorers. The Wanderers doubled their advantage in the 68th minute. Mitch Nichols blasted a shot at Duncan from the byline, it rebounded to Dimas Delgado who found an unmarked Jaushua Sotirio. He swept his foot to the ball, with it taking a deflection from Mateo Poljak that wrong footed the Newcastle keeper for the 2-0 scoreline.

Newcastle tried their best but failed to take control for any meaningful amount of time, and the game was in far more danger of finishing 3-0 than the Jets pulling a goal back. Neither side could add to the scoreline however, with the Wanderers picking up their first home win of the season just in time to visit the Brisbane Roar next week.

    Yep.

Baccus was receiving the ball and looking to pass or dribble forwards. Made a big difference.

Also I am developing something of a man crush on cornflakes (no homo). If popa puts borda back in after his suspension I may morph into a full foaming at the mouth popa out facebook ranting mentalist.

We need to appeal Borda's suspension. Ask whether 3 games was a bit lenient.

Missed it being away on hols but followed on ABC radio. Terrible commentary. The text is better.

There was more than 10'000 there I assure you.

Today was case in point that we need to do what we can to get the hell out of that deal with Spotless. If we must stay at ANZ for the big games fine. But otherwise take it around to C'town & Penrith or stick at one or the other.

It had a Parra-esque feel about it today. No surprise we broke our home hoodoo, **** me I'll help build the stadium for free if it means we get back there quicker.

Everyone get a shovel and hard hat, we're westies we could have this **** built in a week

Great place to watch football, even with the sun toasting us. ANZ and Spotless will feel even more like graveyards now. Had a wander down to the family end towards half time and what was really noticeable was the amount of chat from Vedran. Good prove a pivotal signing if he can keep going like this.

Solid win and badly needed. Baccua should be thinkers Ng about a move to the NRL. A game where passing forwards isn't allowed would be right up his alley. FMD he is hard to watch.

The best thing about today was that this was a win built on foundations of our youth team - Sotirio, baccus (npl more than youth I know), aspro, Scott.

    Good stuff.

This...Aspro and Baccus had fantastic games. I'd say Baccus was best on park.

Yes great to see. Gunner Jnr inducted 3 of his mates to RBB they loved it.

As others have said it shits all over SOP. Imagine that ground filled with 15K you would get an atmosphere like Parra.

The best thing about today was the fact Jets never look like scoring and for the first time I actually felt confident from the moment i woke up to the end of the 90th minute.

We so need to beat the Roar and build come confidence.

Campbelltown should have been our home ground for the three years, it would enhance our status in the SW, no other teams play there(often) and it has that nice home ground feel to it.

    location wise its terrible

however i agree with everything else you said its just the location lets it down imo

It was a ******* hot afternoon.

WTF was with bottles with no caps. ******* "council" restrictions and some bullshit about avoiding bottles thrown. Yeah, because we're going to ping FULL BOTTLES of cold water on a 35 degree day.

Drumming was tough. I tore my drum head (no, not a metaphor, actual drum head).

    Oh yeah, good win.

I know it's not the fault of the staff regarding the bottle lids, but geez, where is all this politically correct safety **** going to end?

I gave one woman a serve because I was pissed off about it. First time I've ever heard of it.

Ending up telling her to keep the ******* cap. I'll just throw the bottle without one.

    Dickheads.

Oh, and great work La Banda and RBB. they were trying conditions. I was at the back.

    That is ridiculous.

Walked in with our own water and no questions ( or a bag check for that matter). Otherwise just bought beer - full strength in a can !!  That's a can - which I could squash into a nice solid disc and use as a missile!! Go figure?

Campbelltown Stadium should of been our replacement for the time being while Parramatta Stadium (aka West Sydney Stadium) is being rebuilt.

I'm happy with the result we had. The team was due for a win and a well deserved one.

It finally felt like game day again with a suburban football ground, close to the field and great atmosphere. Personally I'd rather the 9500 at Campbelltown every week than 12-14k at Spotless.

Great to see Scott bag a goal, he finally got decent service and he made it count. Sitirio has earned his starting position over Jumpei, he's defensive work rate is needed and he has finally made some decent decisions to run forward at the defenders. Popa needs to stop playing this possession based game, I'd rather lose a game going forward in attempt to score than play the ball backwards for 80% of the game only to lose it in the midfield.

Anyone else starting to really get frustrated with Nichols? The dude is yelling at everyone, he continues to take players positions, turn over possession and is offering no value to the forward play. I think he's becoming toxic for the side.

He should move to Canberra, he'll get home at about 12:30-1am and save time.

I wouldn't say toxic, but I have been surprised that everyone's been saying that he is one of the few players they'd definitely re-sign. He's been struggling this year with confidence and decision-making and he has been starting to show his frustration by blaming others when he doesn't get the ball where he wants it.

I think Mitch has always needed quality players moving around him to help create space,he doesn't create from nothing. I don't think he's gelled with Nico like he did with Bridge etc.

But I also think that he, like the team, is starting to look better.

So we've got three wins against the worst three teams in the league.

I'm happy about the win, but not over the moon. I remember after beating the Mariners that we'd be brought back down to earth the following week... then Victory put three past us.

Until we take down a big team I'm convinced this is as good as the team is going to get this year. Competitive against the lower teams but lacking the grit to battle amongst the top dogs.

Feels like a "too little too late" situation, the defence and keeper situation appears to have been cemented, but over half way through the season we are now finding ourselves playing a game of catchup when it should have been sorted from the get go due to some poor recruitment. Positive signs nonetheless, a few adjustments in the off season with Risdon and some new attacking players and we're looking very good next year.

Praying we can build upon the positive foundations we have laid this season for next year without enduring another annual cleanout.

Brisbane will show us exactly how we are really travelling.

I think Mitch has been below his standard this season. It doesn't make him a bad player just not as good as last season.
