  • Santalab Slays "Invincibles"

    mack

A herculean effort from the entire Western Sydney Wanderers team has finally broken the three year Sydney derby drought, claiming Sydney FC's "invincible" tag along with it.

Both sides traded blows in the early stages. After just 4 minutes Jaushua Sotirio was put through on goal by Mitch Nichols, the winger took too many wide touches, giving him a bad angle for his resultant shot. His Sydney FC counter-part Alex Brosque produced a stinging shot that brought out a great save from Vedran Janjetovic. Bobo followed up by blazing over the bar.

25 minutes into the contest the deadlock was broken by Wanderers legend Santalab. Nichols picked up the scraps from a over hit corner, lobbing the ball into the box for Santalab. The gun striker froze the sliding Bobo with a neat pause & turn, before firing through the legs of Danny Vukovic.

As the Wanderers fans were preparing for the customary Poznan, Sotiro had a shot deflect off a defender, Vukovic make a miracle save, knocked the ball onto the post and it just beat the outstretched feet of Nichols. Sydney FC had not lost an A-League match all season and they came on and on in search of an equaliser. In the 82nd minute Bobo ran into a defensive Red & Black wall with Vedran Janjetovic as the last line of defense. The striker took a ball down off his chest, fired at goal only for Janjetovic to get down low and block the ball at his left, with the rebound inching towards goal, the keeper made sure and palmed the ball clear. The save drew comparisons to Ante Covic's miracle save in the Asian Champions League final.

There was some last minute drama with Alex Brosque claiming a penalty, thankfully the refere didn't add to the litany of mistakes going in Sydney FC's favour. My only complaint is that Brosque wasn't punished for yet another example of shameless dissent.

Joyfully after the seemingly endless 6 minute stoppage time period, the referee drew a close to a thunderous Sydney Derby, one that will live forever as one of the best matches in the annals of this fixture.

My wife's brother is a raging homosexual, showed him the banner last night, he didnt find it offensive nor homophobic, he asked me if the banner implies Arnie as a cock sucker and i said yes, he had a bit of a chuckle and thought the banner was cleverly made.

Different people find different things offensive so there is debate whether it is homophobic or not .

Some might find it amusing some not .

What is not debatable is the sheer ******* stupidity of those involved , we are indeed blessed with some special individuals in our support .

A far more wittier thing to have done is anagrams of Brosque's ( or any ESFC players ) name, and after his continuing whining during and after the game on Sat this one seems appropriate.......

Have to laugh at the image of the RBB sitting around working on anagrams .

.... Brosque has been infected with the whinging disease Arnold introduced to the club.

Great atmosphere, you could feel the tension in the stands. With the RBB in full war cry mode it sounded amazing and it was even better when the stands joined in, especially the stadium wide :clapping: "f" off East Syydney.!

The last ten minutes were nearly unbearable to watch. Games like this make you love our sport and our club even more. The highs far outway the lows. It was a privelige to be there because it was nailbiting and exhilarating at the same time.! :xnod:

I gave out more hugs at the end of this game than a hippie in a forest. :woah:

You weren't the nutter who ran to the back of bay 113 and started hugging me where you? lol Thing about attending games like this is it totally changes my personality lol I go from a very quiet bloke to a ******* nutter lol I am pretty sure some of those around me in 113 thought I was a bit  Especially the people sat along from us who didn't even do the poznan lol

I was in 113 too. For me the worst part was the ******* ESFC fans. **** off and sit in your own end

what a game. the starting eleven were fantastic and did amazing to last as long as they did. The subs barely had minutes to make any impact on the game, so they can't be criticised either. (though maybe if griffiths were 5/10 yrs younger he would have got to sotirio's cross in the dying minutes  )

as for "that" banner, its was all of the things mentioned before me. i'd personally like to see the RBB apoligise for offending any wanderers members, and then tell everyone else to suck a dick. :P

Man someone earlier talked about the tension, how the players kept it up in that atmosphere and didn't lose energy from nervous tension was amazing. I remember the Brisbane Grand Final, holding on, I was so drained by the end. I couldn't take extra time. I felt a bit like that the other night. Between 70 and 85 seemed to take so long. The Dale got me home.

When I watched the replay Simon Hill was talking about how tense it was. It's amazing how a packed crowd can totally change the feeling in the air and everyone can feel it.

Or maybe instead of apologising, they could just use the Seinfeld defence...

Good point. Just because person a. is homosexual and doesn't find it offence, doesn't mean everyone in that same category feels the same way. Personally, I wasn't offended, but can completely understand why many were. It was uncalled for, it was unnecessary and was simply stupid. There are many ways to insult someone, but there's not need to use sex, race or religion.

I was in Victoria over the week, there was little to no coverage of football, nor the banner (only knew about it via Facebook and it was briefly mentioned on Fox Sports News).

Now, onto the game. Sydney played a little poorly, we took advantage of that. But, we in no way were great. We took our chance, they didn't. The penalty... well, yes, technically it was. However, if a player with the reputation of Brosque (and his constant whinging in the referee's ear for 90+ minutes) and then he falls down in the box in the 94th minute, well, any referee would think twice and probably say no.
