Could have signed him as Australian marquee anyway. Maybe that's what we've done. He's a socceroo after all.

I think he might be played at left back. D'Apuzzo was solid in year 1, but clearly Spira is a better defender. D'Apuzzo was given a very limited role, like an 'anchor' fullback (while Polenz on the right stormed down the right), so Spira can probably handle that role easy.

according to wiki he played one game for Melb Victory before leaving for Germany?

Yeah, I think he was 16 at the time and Merrick said he was too good for the A-League.

Welcome Spira! Has anyone heard anything regarding how long this contract will be for? More than one season would be great.

Apparently that was a friendly before A-League had started, so never technically played an A-League game

Signing of the off-season. He will be an absolute gun with the help he will have around him. Most defenders dream of going INTO a rock solid setup because most of the time the only time defenders get a decent pay day it's to "bolster" someone elses faulting setup.

Looking forward to plenty of cleen sheets. the best dead ball defending side in A-League history just got better.

Got some serious height in this team now adding Matty with Juric, Hyphen. Opposition defences should be worried of corners.

This has to be up there as best signing of the season along with Troisi for the Victory. Our defensive stocks are now even better!

Welcome to the Wanderers!

It's only 1 year. He's already stated that he wants to use it to get back in the national team and potentially back to Europe.

A guy of his quality won't hang around if he is performing well. It would've been great to see a longer deal if for nothing else than the potential transfer fee.

But he has to perform to his potential first...

Did well apart from that 1 backpass/pass to NTS. Has a good engine and put in some great effort in covering ground.

I thought Spiranovic had a good game. I was surprised in that I thought they would more likely go with Spira and Beauchamp. At least we know all 3 are quality players and can get called up and do the job well. We are going to need all 3 especially when we are heading to the ACL next year.

Loved the tucked shirt tonight!

Overall good performance. Only worry was the backpass, but it was probably just nerves or something.

Anyone else notice Popa's sly dig at Heartless in the post-match interview? Something along the lines of "we targetted this match for Matt's return... He hasn't played in 7 months so we had to ease him in."

I heard, "this 3 points was a given, we could have started Trifiro in goals and Tyson as our only field player and still won."

Fist Hersi, now Spira...

Hey what you do in your own time is your business...

But it does explain the rather large and expressive eyes that Youssouf has...

Farina is interested in everyone. I heard the name Carrusca thrown around too. Just wants more potential drinking buddies.
