    Gombau Sacked By Wanderers

Well, this sounds like the same old excuses for whenever wests are not doing well. And this despite the fact that the FFA owned them and that the FFA doesn't follow through with points deductions for the RBB's bad behaviour. The RBB is the reason every active supporter group has been targeted by the authorities. p.s. I think you meant to say "Saint Terry". ?

I don’t know much about Brazil but I assume football is the main sport? With a much larger population I guess it can support more teams and as you say, boundaries are more established. There is a lot of competition between codes here in Sydney and the other codes get better backing from the press which makes it harder for the round ball game. As for Campbelltown, yeah - if they go with South Western Sydney it’s going to be a bit stupid. But FFA does stupid quite well, so who knows. If they must add another Sydney club then they should promote an NPL club that already has a fan-base and existing structure to build on. But I still think Brisbane or Canberra should be up next.

Yep, no doubt. Winning fixes almost everything, and it’s even sweeter after some poor years. Popa’s signings were hit and miss. And my view is that his man management only suits a certain type of player so some signings could have been good but didn’t cope with the regime. And that (man mgt) is just as important as anything else.

The SCG will be horrible for football. Too big and too far from the action. But as you say, routine / location and transport facilities probably swayed the decision. I never liked the SCG for watching rugby league finals there many years ago. I don’t even like ANZ that much - most fans are a long way from the pitch. I hope the Allianz rebuild gets cancelled. Waste of money. Kogarah is closer to where I live so that’s good but yeah, the oval shap is not good. The new parramatta stadium will be very good.

Yep, could be ugly, especially with a new coach, whoever that will be. The smurfs have been through that before. It's only new for wests. They should not be rebuilding Allianz, totally against that. Alan Jones is a tosser.

I think you forget that things happened in the HAL before wests joined the comp. E.g. smurfs played some home games at Kogarah oval, had unsuccessful and disliked coaches, had players who thought they were bigger than the club, finished outside the top 6, etc. And smurf fans have said to wests fans "you guys will have lean years too, it's the nature of football" but the response was a very haughty "no, we're different!". We're always going to be top 2, playing the ACL, etc etc. As for the old smurf-FFA link conspiracy theory, only one of the two Sydney clubs was fully owned and operated by the FFA, and that club's most successful years were during FFA ownership, when flares could be let off with impunity. Now that someone else owns the club, reality has set in. The horror. Expansion? I think it's wrong to put another team anywhere in Sydney but it's equally likely that Campbelltown will buy the Wellington licence before the southern expansion side starts. That's going to eat into wests territory. The next team should be in Brisbane or Canberra.

Sure, and you have a nice day also.

Now now, Gremlin. No need to get your undies in a bunch. This is just banter, about football, where we can have a laugh. It's not that serious. The homophobic rant is a bit over the top.

I don't think any team will ever get more fans than MV, until maybe South Melbourne Hellas is admitted to the HAL.

How does that work when quite a few games were played at ANZ? If you could get the RBB to put their toys back in the pram and turn up then attendance would be better.

Shame about that. Probably need more flares.

I realise that it's nice to believe in things, but the smurfs get more people to their games than Wanderers, 50,000 more this season. Not stirring at all. No organisation should stand for its employees fighting or undermining the manager. It should have been stamped out. As for Gombau, I think he's a good manager and the club has let him down by allowing him to be undermined. It was always going to be a difficult job following the person who built the club from scratch. Probably similar to Moyes coming in after Ferguson's long tenure at MU - the existing structures and culture are so strong it's almost impossible to effect change until there is a big cleanout.

If JT had any balls he would punt Baccus and Santalab. This is completely unacceptable behaviour and I am sure must break club code of conduct. And Lederer should punt JT. The club has a lot to answer for, overseeing the employment of a coach who holds the highest coaching licence in Spain but then allowing him to be systematically undermined. Mack is right - lots of luck to whoever walks into this mess.

This wee's cartoon is excellent, as always. Featuring Santa crying and young Baccus showing his prowess with the boot. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/ng-interactive/2018/apr/19/david-squires-on-the-a-leagues-final-not-finals-round LOL
