Hughesy
Silly mistakes and a lack of pace are the two things undoing us at the moment. The mistakes come and go and you really can't help them. The lack of pace in the players you can't change but you can counter it by tinkering tactics. So to the lack of pace in spreading the ball. Last night the wide men were providing good width, particularly Hammil (ironically), but by the time we played the line they had already closed us down and then hit us on the counter cause we can't drop quickly. Last week against Perth we got wide and spread it wide quickly and it had a huge impact in nullifying Perth's potency by stretching them. I'm not sure if it differed on TV but from my perspective at the ground, there was no confidence in crossing. It very rarely happened and either ended up being cut inside or played back to start again. When we did cross it in (particularly Nico) it was actually effective. There's always talk in sport about individuals being confidence players, I think we are a confidence team. If we try something and it doesn't work a few times it has a really negative effect and we crawl into our shell. These are all things that can definitely be fixed though, I don't think we are nearly as bad as what is being made out to be. Link to comment

Paul01
Leijer no thanks. Only looking at who might be available I wonder if we can sign Stevie G under the Tim Cahill rule? No. the Tim Cahill guest player fits in the normal squad and visa limits apply. However, under the original guest player rule the answer would be yes subject to Lederer and FFA approval The guest player is outside the visa and squad. Criteria below. Guest Player – A Club can spend an unlimited amount on one Guest Player who must satisfy the prescribed marketability criteria as approved by FFA. A Guest Player is restricted to a maximum of 14 Hyundai A-League matches; Season 2016/17 Guest Player – A Club can spend an unlimited amount on one Season 2016/17 Guest Player who must satisfy the prescribed marketability criteria as approved by FFA. The Season 2016/17 Guest Player is not restricted to a maximum number of Hyundai A-League matches; Link to comment

DinoPresinger
These are the players I would keep next year: Kearyn Baccus (actually played very well recently. Better than Pinatares anyway.)Lachlan Scott (U21) Youth!Liam Youlley (First Team U21 Dev Contract) Youth!Mario Shabow (U21) Youth!Mitch Nichols (He's class, will come good soon)Nicolas Martinez (Marquee) (would love to hold on to him)Scott Neville (Insanely solid fullback. Who knew based on performances for previous clubs!)Shannon Cole (ok, maybe I'm getting a bit sentimental) Expiring End 2017/18Aritz Borda (******* useless but a contract is a contract.)Brendon Santalab (Na na na na na na na)Jack Clisby (solid, see Scotty Neville)Jacob Melling (contracted. We have too many DMs but maybe he allows Dimas to be released)Jonathan Aspropotamitis (youth, a bit shaky at times but always good to see a young player come through)Jumpei Kusukami (Looking better than Castelen so far. v. cheap for how he plays so worth extending his contract.)Kerem Bulut (bloody legend + contract. I still have hope he'll come good)Robbie Cornthwaite(contracted, what can you do?)Steven Lustica (ditto) Bruno Pinatares (sooooo ****. I have a better touch than him. Just a terrible, terrible signing. The worst). Sotirio - (I don't think we can terminate his 3 year contract) These are the players who I would like to see in the squad next season. If their name is in italics it means I really don't want to see them in the team because they are shite but they are contracted. This would mean 19/25 spots would be filled including 1 u21 place. 5 full squad members. 1 foreign spot would be open. This MUST be used for a prolific foreign striker. I'm talking a $2m a season marquee. 15+ goals a year. The funny thing is that people complain that Popa only gives short term contracts but the 2-3 year deals he has given this year have ****ed us for future seasons because we're stuck with terrible, terrible players like Borda, Pinatares, and Sotirio. He loves a good hit haha for some reason i read this at the single/relationship thread and i was going to reply that Jack Clisby can enforce me anytime he wants but then i realised its the wrong thread he has been amazing for us imo i thought it was an alright signing but he has done very well for us reminds me of Jamieson Prydzopolis and WSW27 2 Link to comment
KGee
Everyone down to and including Bacchus bar Sotirio who I thought got an extension should be shipped out end of season. And spider too. Dimas should go. Doesn't provide the forward play we need and I'd prefer Melling in a mongrel DM role with a more elegant ball playing DM on a Andreu type state. That then frees up foreign spot for Lederer to push his gands deeper in to his pocket to keep his money safe. Seeing those names in the 2018 expiry box. Just depressing. mack 1 Link to comment

DrunkenWookie89
We could always do the dodgy sign spira, burns, maybe re-sign vidosic and sign milligan on ACL contracts but front load the ACL contracts then resign them again on a decent wage after???? Link to comment

Guest riva
We must be swimming in cash , saved money on Jamieson and NTS wages , what around roughly $450k ? Plus was a fee paid to us for Jamieson ? Plus the derby crowd bonanza. Must be way under the cap , plus we can get a marquee. Let the moths out of the wallet. DrunkenWookie89
Also i have noticed other teams really use their youth players as squadies...players u21 or u23 on contracts could really save us cap space and allow to use the cash to sign some quality players for key positions. I think working the cap is the biggest thing. 2 players outside the cap 1 guest marquee and another 11-14 players of quality with the rest of the squad being made up of up and coming u21s and u23s. We need to use the cap space and marquee options. Link to comment

Without taking the youth contracts and marquee contracts into consideration, with 25 players on the books wouldn't it be ideal the splash the cash on a first 11, the best young (cheap) talent happy for any game time but can come in as a 2nd 11... then 3 utility playera. That way you're covered in every position and don't end up with 8 CBs and 6 DMs then resort to playing a CB at LB and central players on the wing. DrunkenWookie89 1 Link to comment
wsw2154
Hate saying it but look at what the east sydney signings have brought to the table compared to ours..... enough said really! They already had a fairly decent keeper and replaced him with an even better keeper. They kept some of their marquee signings from previous seasons and added quality players to compliment and finally bolstered a decent defence. Look at our recruitment and you have to wonder what the **** is going on? SBW 1 Link to comment

There's a few teams loading up on a starting 11 but it's very risky. 1 or 2 injuries and it can all fall apart. Happpened to Victory halfway through last season and they spent the rest of it playing catch up. Link to comment
wswtragic
Apparently the rumours about Herve Sage are resurfacing according to twitter... Which foreigner gets paid off? Borda has a long contract, so likely Pinatares if there is any credibility to this (usual panic when things aren't working) rumour. A 'keeper or striker should be higher on the list than a midfielder. Paul01 and DamnedUnited 2 Link to comment
