    Phoenix Pay The Penalty

Note 1: This win was the 9th in a row for Western Sydney, breaking the all-time A-League record previously held by Melbourne Victory. It equals the record of 9 games during the National Soccer League, held by three teams.
Note 2: Mark Bridge scored his 39th goal in the A-League, it pushed him into outright 5th on the all-time A-League goal scoring ranking.
Note 3: The Red & Black Bloc were involved in a silent protest for the first 20 minutes of the match. The protest was aimed at unjust bans handed out to 20 supporters by Football Federation Australia and their hired security firm Hatamoto.

we should destroy them but i am weary of a team with nothing to lose and need to win everything but we should win this unless we have a horrible match

We are now the hunted. Teams will lift for an opportunity to beat us.

They actually looked better against the Heart then they have for a while. It won't be easy but realistically we should be winning this match.

Chasing a record! we need to win this, we cannot afford to drop any points with 4 games to go, Premiership Plate is on the line....

ALso hoping we all sing that little bit louder for a) the record of 9 straight, and b) to show those community fund ticket holders what a Wanderers game experience is all about!

Hopefully our defensive side of midfield is better than last week. That was our only downside. We gave too much space to ccm at times.

big match gonna be a big crowd whole northern terrace already sold out as of this morning and the team doing so well, full voice is needed no matter where your standing/sitting at wanderland. Dinos time to shine i predict

I'm a bit nervous.  I have faith in Popa that he won't let our lads get ahead of themselves, but I agree with some above comments about us being the team to beat now.  The whole ball game (no pun intended) has changed since our first 3 games with no goals whatsoever.  Wellington has a new coach - renewal -and it all makes a difference.

Fingers crossed!

It will be very interesting to see who is in the starting line up too.  Popa has done quite a bit of rotation - who will be on the pitch come Sunday???

Sunday afternoon at the football.. can't beat it. If the weather decides to hang around, it should make for a great day!

Again, really nervous - as i am for all games - but we can only lose top position.

Would like Haliti to be given a go from the start up front, hasn't been given many chances but has always done well when called upon as has been said and he's gotta be really buzzing after getting the winner against CCM. Think he deserves it.

Same lineup for me with maybe hailiti to come in. Ono might get a rest perhaps?

Wellington have tweeked their formation - no doubt popa will be aware of this. The diamond Phoenix are playing has its strengths and its weaknesses

Yeah i was thinking Ono might get a rest or be on the bench

If Ono gets rested then Mooy to start I assume.

Absolutely, he's had a few half matches off recently.

Perfect game to get our goal difference closer to the mariners.

10-0 with a Dino hat trick (we are the team that sets records right? :D )

I've started to piss people off at work by walking around singing Glorious & This City We Own constantly. I'm ready for game day! Bring it on!

This is  a scary game. They are coming off a win against Melbourne Heart but yes it was at home and they are as shocking playing away from home just like Heart.

It will be a good idea to rest Ono so he is fresh against Heart the following week and also at least abit fresh for the remaining games. Maybe it will be a good time to have some other players some playing time. Maybe give Visconte and Elrich a run and maybe give Tyson a game in goal to rest Covic for the run home especially considering after this game there is 2 big games against Heart @ AAMI and the big one Sydney Derby3.

But i have faith in popa. I know he will have the side ready for this week and the weeks to come. Premiers plate = automatic bid into next years ACL.

I'm not a fan of resting players when you see what it does to sides like we saw happen to Australia in the cricket, but I'm no coach either so whatever popa does will be the right choice. Wellington are a great side and can score a few, we will have to be at the top of our game for this one.

CCM play the night before. So we know what we have to do coming into this match. Either extend our lead to 4 or 5 points or reclaim the top (if CCM win against SFC).

I see no complacency from Popa and and boys.

You are suggesting to rest half the starting XI when the title isn't even sewn up yet. That is called complacency and will bit us in the arse.

The players don't need to rest. Its only round 24. WSW are the fittest in the comp and the medical stafff have it all covered.

Why rest Covic who will be aiming for his 5th straight clean sheet?

These guys only play once a week, its not as if they are playing midweek games like CCM are.

This is a true test of if we deserve top spot come end of the season or not. No more underdogs. We are the top dog and need to prove we deserve to be.

Should we have a "we want 9" (wins in a row) chant??  Just joking.  It will be a "butterflies in the stomach" game.  I have them already.

Re resting players - Popa has a rotation thing going anyway.  I don't know how he decides who plays, who's on the bench and who is rested.  But whatever he does it has worked so far.  Tarek seems to get "rested" very often - not sure why.  Plenty of competition for the regular spots is good for a team though.

I Hate to say it BUT i hope ESFC will beat Borinators on Saturday Night.

& if we beat Wello we have 1 foot into ASIA.

Was it Mancini or someone else that said this?

"When you are first and leading the competition, you have targets on your back."

I think thats what we have at the moment, every team we play want to topple us, the Nix are at the bottom and have been in poor form despite their against the Heart, They have a new manager and they are certainly not going to make the game easy for us.

I just hope that Popa has kept our boys calmed and composed.
