And yes, i do rate domestic success over that mickey mouse world title. I'd also take domestic success over the ACL at this particular time, but that's only because I'd like to see the team consolidate its domestic position before it takes on the continent in what is a meaningful competition.

LOL

Just quietly wouldnt mind having Elrich as our RB...

Or left back which is where he's been most of the season.

The World Club Cup (or Challenge, or whatever) is basically the Confed Cup for clubs.

Does anyone remember the last 5 World Club title winners? Most football fans can probably name the last 20 winners of the UCL, but who remembers who won the last World Club Cup or the Confed Cup? Certainly not me.

All of the teams that have won the UCL recently have won the club world cup, except for Chelsea, they got done by Corintihans

Yeah I guess that's to be expected. Never bothered with a single World Club game, always felt a bit like a gimmicky exhibition game held mid-season.

For the European clubs it's a gimic little competition that they make a little money out of it.

gives the players a little mid-season holiday and they just have to turn up and play some football.

Top 2, no. Performing at a half decent level domestically, yes. As for the world club rubbish... My views on that competition (ridiculous distraction) remain unchanged, especially if it means the team finishes bottom of he A-League.

You'd rather win an A-League final than be crowned the best club in the world?

Would you us rather have beaten Brisbane in the final or win the ACL? Serious question because you seem to place more weight on a domestic trophy than continental and global success.

And I don't think you're a troll. You're just a middle aged man who has come from a rugby background and has 'different' view on football.

Hardly middle aged, but i was around for the final seasons of the NSL when the Northern Spirit nosedived, so i know (better than many here, i would imagine) what it's like to support a team that never again performs as well as they once did. As for following another sport... So bloody what? I'm not so blinkered in my like for football that I will ignore other sports that can be just as entertaining (and just as frustrating).

And that's where i stand. Think it ridiculous all you want, but it's bloody embarrassing to blindingly cling to the fact that we are champions in Asia when we can't even beat the bloody Jets. The Jets, FFS!

Imagine being a jets fan.

We've had a bad few weeks with promise all the same and a solid financial backing. We've won a major trophy. A few weeks ago.

A few bad weeks.

Wait till its a few bad years.

I was there the day the jets won. No kids. Deadend job. A lifetime ago. Another age. Can only imagine what it feels like for them.

Uh huh, and you weren't complaining about your team playing the cwc in 2005?

Boys hung in there well to keep score respectable.

Adelaide very good - carrusca still my favourite non-wsw player to watch

The 9. And 10. from adelaide are classy players, they play a very fluent style....if we can't make the GF I'd like to see Adelaide vs Victory in the GF. Be a good matchup.

agree ...cause when compared the Oceania Club CLUP cup then it has nothing...

Gombau should not be happy with that result, should have been 4 or 5 blot. good saves from Covic, that should give him confidence going into this CWC in Morocco

credit to the lads, could have given up and let it be a cricket score, kept their composure and played for the full 90, cant ask for more than that as a supporter.

hopefully the supporters crack the shits and give up on WSW lol

Totally gutted, but not half as much as the popa & boys are feeling I'm sure...doubt I have the objectivity to look to the positives but hopefully some north african sun might help recharge the batteries and we can reboot the season come the new years

For the Europeans full stop.

That's my view of it.  I was never interested in what used to be South America vs Europe in its old format.  They just extended it with no hopers for more money generation.

Mate, when a harmless post meant for genuine discussion riles you up just because I support a rival team, one could argue I have already got the better of you.

You CANNOT, I say it again, CANNOT mix Rakija with anything else. You drink it straight. Thats it. Don't even try to mix it. If you do, please don't buy the drink. I have never heard anyone say that they would mix it with something.

SIMPLY, IT DOESNT HAPPEN!!! Keep it clean. :xnod:

so that's how it goes

Anyway, I'm proud of the team in how they restricted Adelaide to 2 goals from 22 goal attempts and their desperate last ditch defending. It felt like the ACL final again! Except for the 2 goals, that is.

Shame about the offside, but oh well - that referee won't be in A-League for a few weeks methinks, that's a shocking error. Juric's volley... ooh if that went in!

In terms of supporters being angry about performances and the like, I think that's totally fine. Be angry, be passionate, rile up those emotions - but don't stop supporting the team. Once you joke about membership hand-ins or have personal attacks on the players (e.g. 'x is crap, y should get a new job') or whatever, that's probably across the line. Be critical, but keep it professional in terms of the criticism and I think we'll be fine on that front.

In terms of the Club World Cup, yes it is a gimmick but hey, it's exposure and demonstrates the sheer breadth of the world game. Yes it is a distraction, but it's a welcome one in my books.

And for those interested in how I'm going with the girl... well, conversation has sorta plateaued I think. But I asked her out before and in the second most shocking moment this year (second only to that save from Covic), she said 'Sure, why not?' and that was just... :woah:  Hopefully I can recreate that fairytale run in the upcoming days.

Goal attempts....

AU - 22

WSW - 1.

This is simply not good enough.

You groupies can defend the team all you like.

But it is undeniable that we are crap atm.

Utterly ****.

Will I hand in my membership - Hell no.

Have I missed a game this season - Hell no.

Will I keep going to games - Hell yes.

But, we are undeniably playing very poor football atm. There appears to be little desire to challenge for balls, pressure opponents, etc......

They seem tired, both physically and mentally, and we appear devoid of any sort of change in tactics. Other teams have worked us out, and are easily exploiting our weaknesses.

The extended break now from the A-League will hopefully recharge our batteries.

Let's get Morocco out of the way, and even though I hope we beat Cruz, I'm a bit afraid of what might happen if we do.
