We won !

2-1

We scored more than 1 goal for a change.

We shall no longer be called the 1 goal wanderers :P

Didn't Appiah score a goal last pre-season too??

Hmmm not sure, he might have scored last pre season, not sure, this thread doesn't make it clear :P  ;)

There's video evidence of it

IIRC, Kwabs passes to Ono whose shot was saved (possibly by post) thence Kwabs taps in.

That was good. Just in case anybody didn't know we should not get ahead of ourselves because Kwabsy scored last pre season as well.

Does anybody know what the players will do for the next 9 days eg when they will leave and arrive.

Kubi will be a gun this season if he is given game time.

Kubi will get game time if he continues to progress and improve on the areas of his game that do need improvement and show more in the way of consistency.

A goal in a pre season tournament certainly won't do him any harm..... lets hope he kicks on from here.

This.

Kubi has been given plenty of game time and has done very little to impress so far. Think it's a bit early to declare he's gonna be a gun if given game time, but hopefully he kicks on as WSWBoro says. More consistency and improvement and he'll be a solid player. Let's hope that's what happens.

Prepare for the ACL away leg against FCSeoul on the 17th.

I understand that the squad will travel directly to Korea, unless the Clubs has varied its original plans.

Get in there: Al Jazira celebrate their goal.

Al Jazira’s IPIC Cup meeting with Western Sydney Wanderers ended alarmingly, after a fan fell from the terraces during the celebrations of the Pride of Abu Dhabi’s overall tournament victory.

The supporter was rushed into an ambulance after receiving expert care from the on-site medical staff at Military Stadium in the capital when a railing collapsed, leading to a 20-foot fall onto the concrete below.

Jazira had earlier sunk to a 2-1 defeat to the AFC Champions League contenders, but claimed the trophy on goals scored after beating Bahraini’s Eastern Riffa 4-1 in their opener on Tuesday with the Australians losing 2-1 to the same opponents on Thursday.

Eric Gerets’ men had started brightest last night, Jucilei cutting inside to sweep high into the goal after summer signing Manuel Lanzini continued his exciting early form by robbing the ball in midfield and playing the Brazil international in expertly.

Gallery from the match

This was as good as it got for Jazira against obstinate and physically imposing opposition, who came alive when bearded playmaker Vitor Saba got onto the ball. It was the Brazilian who curled in the corner from which Iacopo La Rocca nodded an instant leveller, benefitting from stand-in goalkeeper Khalid Al Senani recklessly rushing off his line.

The few chances that followed went to the Australians, who could yet return to the UAE for the ACL final if they see off FC Seoul and Al Ain beat Al Hilal in the last-four ties. This superiority against a heavily-depleted Jazira side missing 21 players to international duty was sealed after the interval, Kwabena Appiah firing in low following a devastating counter-attack.

The game was the capital outfit’s final run out before they begin their Arabian Gulf League campaign away to Ajman on Monday, September 15.

Wow - 21 players on International duty? They only have 4 in the UAE team, They must have a LOT of foreigners.

This season is make or break for Kubi. He has shown promise these past 2 years but still plays like a novice most of the time.

In this Goal article, it says they return to Australia on Wednesday.

They article could very well be right.

If so, it's an increased travel load from what was envisaged, when the Club's GM told me about the Middle East trip in July.

The squad would only be home for a couple of days before flying out to Korea on Sunday / Monday.
