can't remember a lower key build up to such a big game. even on here it has been very quiet. Not sure what the cause is?

disappointment at not winning the league? maybe

general distaste for 'finals' football (although this didn't stop us getting excited in previous seasons)? maybe

'big club' mentality where success at this level is expected and taken for granted? ******* hope not

eggball is in full swing so casual fans are distracted? ******* hope not

has the novelty of wsw worn off for some of our less committed 'fans'? maybe

whatever the cause we are having a laugh if we think we are going to fill a 35K seat stadium week to week when we are struggling to fill a 20K one for a final.

There's little reporting of the semi-finals in the media. I have seen only a couple of comments by the team or Popa, it's hard to get excited when all we hear about is rugby league. I listen to the radio and the news reports all over just say the semi's are on, no further information....

It could also be that it's school holidays, people are away.

I don't know, but I feel it too. Hopefully the excitement will build over the weekend. I'm so nervous for this game!

Yeah it's very flat media wise. This is the FFAs final series but they are not promoting it very well. I don't think they have any money to be honest for marketing but the other issue is the fact the AFL and NRL are in full swing and totally dominant so that's all you'll get in the mainstream media.

Theres a few guys at work who i would describe as general sports fans and casual football followers and they have had to ask me who are we playing and when, and is it the grand final this weekend. If they dont know whats going on we cant expect the casual to know.

The FFA are just completely useless at promoting. Their worse case scenario is that Adelaide loose, we win and 40,000 turn up for the GF in a 80 thou stadium and i realy hope thats happens for more reasons than 1.

Pirtek will be a roiling mass of red and black - let's hope the noise is heard across the west! This is going to be huge - and I'm starting to dislike Roar intensely (not to ESFC standard though).

looking at ticket disaster, there are only a handful of stand/terrace seats that you can se not are not restricted view (excludes family hill and rbb as you cant see #s there). The FFA has no money left in the tank, I cant see them spending any of it promoting this game or the Adelaide one which is sold out.

Yeah both semis will sell out without any advertising and Fox/SBS will advertise their own coverage so the FFA won't see the need to advertise. Not saying I agree with it as I'd prefer to see them use it as an opportunity to grow the profile of the game, but I can see why they're doing it this way.

Wherever the grand final is they may advertise a bit more as they will be in big grounds and aren't guaranteed to sell out.

My concern is not around the attendance at the venues. That is fine without promotion but surely your semis and final are a great time to promote the game and get people interested. Grow the sport. Get people wanting to be interested next season. Encourage people to watch on TV. I dunno.... just want to see a bit more excitement... I bet Mel does her best on CH7 news within the confines of her remit..

I see Sotirio is back in the squad. Looks like he will start then seeing as he is a favourite of Popas (for some reason)

Western Sydney Wanderers FC squad: 2.Shannon COLE, 3.Scott JAMIESON, 4.Nikolai TOPOR-STANLEY ©, 5.Brendan HAMILL, 6.Mitch NICHOLS, 7.Romeo CASTELEN, 8.DIMAS, 10.Dario VIDOSIC, 11.Brendon SANTALAB, 12.Scott NEVILLE, 15.Kearyn BACCUS, 16.Jaushua SOTIRIO, 17.ALBERTO, 18.ANDREU, 19.Mark BRIDGE, 20.Andrew REDMAYNE (gk), 21.Jacob PEPPER, 30.Liam REDDY (gk)

**two to be omitted**

Ins: 16.Jaushua SOTIRIO (promoted), 21.Jacob PEPPER (promoted)

Outs: Nil

Unavailable: Nil

Pio to make his return in the GF !

Was hoping to see Pio in the lineup... just needs a back-flick goal and we need a nice chip in the 2nd half to secure a GF spot... why does that sound familiar?

You want see Pio in any Wanderers games, he hasn't been doing the proper training,Will be better for everyone to forget about him,

'Twas a joke my friend :)

disappointment at not winning the league?

'big club' mentality where success at this level is expected and taken for granted?

eggball is in full swing so casual fans are distracted?

has the novelty of wsw worn off for some of our less committed 'fans'?

I think it is the first two for me, last night there was no hype or excitement on here :(

100% agree on the build up in the media, very quiet across the FTA networks (plus they've been running the election & 60 minutes stuff that has been picking up the main headlines. Really feels like we are limping into it rather than a big build up.

I can't complain, I'm not feeling it either!

Wasn't Peter Green the ref for the gf against Brisbane as well? Whoever it was, they were from Brisbane.

Regardless of bias, it just makes sense to not have a ref from either city that's playing. Not for the FFA though.

This is is the FFA

Whilst in England, for precautionary reasons they removed Kevin Friend from the Spurs game on Monday night because he supports Leicester & wanted to avoid controversy. You've got one FA who is proactive & another who hasn't got a ******* idea what's going on. It's not like we haven't got referees from other parts of Australia available.

Frustration - frustration at blowing the Premiers Plate , at not having a striker , failure of both marquees ,   not being able to beat big teams in crunch matches ( Brisbane , Victory ) , frustrating tiki- taka style ,attack after attack and set pieces  producing nothing. Baffling selection of one player in particular.

Having said that law of averages might kick in.

yep we are a flawed team of that there is no doubt - but so is everyone else. its a salary capped league.

vidosic not a failure imo. he has been good - contributed in most games. maybe hasn't dominated the league like you would hope a marquee might but he is a good player. also doesn't having andreu play like a marquee for $150K offset the pio mistake?

we have played good football this season. we have finished second in a competitive, balanced league. the way you describe it you make it sound like every goal we have scored has bounced in off someone's arse.

We look better when Dario is on the pitch. He may not have scored a bucketful, but he runs the opposition around in defence and breaks up their patterns.

I think he's underrated.

I agree. He seems to open up the defenders a lot more and drifts inside, similar to Bridge. Romeo, whilst does a lot of good doesn't do this as often and when he does it's predictable and his final-third decision making is poor.

Mitch and Fathead have been fairly quiet. Good solid performances as always, but by the standards of what we know they can produce they have been a little off the boil.

In Santa, Mitch, Bridge and Casta we have big match winners no doubt. Santa is on fire but need the others around him to lift.

Was flicking through the sports section of the Smurf Morning Herald. About 6 pages of just League coverage, one page on the olympics, one article on AFL and one page on football which had one article about Santa talking about getting revenge against Brisbane. Funnily enough the other big article was about the Smurfs making "history" in the ACL which is to be expected from that toilet roll of a newspaper.

March is good.

Having once a year flogs who don't march so they can get there early and take spots of the regulars is less good.

I'm not a once-a-year (I've missed two home games this season, but done two saucebottle trips to make up) and I won't be marching, but I will be getting there early because my tickets are GA in the northeast block :)

Seats may not be easy ....

Just watch The Complete Story and The Story Continues again.

All those feelings and great moments all came flooding back and it got me so pumped up for Sunday.

**** Brisbane Roar. **** John and Ross Aloisi. **** Matt "pants up my crack" Makay. **** Broich.

And still, **** Besart Berisha.

I don't mind Matt 'harry high pants' McKay. A 100% midfielder with a bit of quality about him. Buzzes around like the proverbial. Brisbane are a poorer side without him for sure. Keep him and Broich quiet and the service to McLaren dries up.

I don't like his demeanor, comes across like a douche bag.

McKay makes the Roar tick.

When he's allowed to receive the ball from their defense & turn to play forward, they become dangerous, particularly in transition. He must be kept quiet on Sunday, if we hope to gain control in midfield.
