I'm taking my dad to his first Wanderers game tomorrow. I thought I would try to give him the best possible experience outside of a derby.

He's a big rusted-on AFL fan but my sister and I have slowly been converting him over the years. He now watches all our games on TV while we're at the ground and discusses them with us when we get home.

A few days before last week's match, he asked if we were boycotting. I said yes we were, and I was getting ready to be told we were being stupid for doing it because my dad is very straight-laced.

To my total surprise, he said it was good we were doing it and that the FFA needed to change the system. He was also pleasantly surprised to see the terrace empty. I don't think he realised how big the boycott was going to be.

I'm not sure how he will react to some of the diss chants though but I'm sure it will be interesting either way :)

Anyway, In + 2 and hopefully a new convert!

Sydney derby is top, then Melbourne derby.

Spectacle wise it's WS vs MV, no other interstate game is bigger.

'Big Blue' is a waste of hype.

its only the oldest rivalry because it was the first game wasn't it?

Wasn't it like Newcastle v Adelaide?

Not really. There was a Friday night game, Newcastle v Adelaide in Newy.

Sydney FC v Melbourne Victory was the first 'big' game, on the Saturday night.

Its just the Syd v Melbourne rivalry played up in the marketing for the football.

Some SFC fans will try to convince you they see the Big Blue as a bigger game and rivalry than the Sydney Derby. They still see us a the little brother despite us winning 2 trophies since we've been around and they've won none.

Also, the crowds at SFC v MV games at Allianz tell a different story too, compared the Derby d'Sydney

Feels like forever since games attended.. have some lost time to make up for. Everyone should load up on pre workout before they head in... gotta get the place rocking! Like the energy at gosford.. except sustained for 90.

"Load up on pre workout"

Classic.

I know I've finished a game thinking about a post RBB shake.

It would be a very nice gesture if we can all show our appreciation to the like of Bozza, Simon, Adam ect on Saturday. I'm sure even the Victards will join in.

If they are at Pirtek all that has to happen is for Foxtel to put them on the big screen....Foxtel make it happen

Appreciation also to the rest of Wanderland for the support during the boycott ???

Not my call though.

Hopefully we are winning when extra time commences & everyone in the stands can rise as one, for 3+ minutes standing ovation.

Melbourne victory has double the fans of esfc who actually show up Sydney fc has a big old empty

Manson and some grey haired grounds keep named Arnold

Not much of a match up....

Uhhhhgg.... Its all just a recycled pissing contest thats quite cringeworthy.

A) We all know and feel, that the sydney derby is the most important match.

B) We and the smurfs will always taunt eachother by saying that the Melbourne game is more important blah blah blah. its not. But i will say the FC v Victory game has more of a rivalry then we do thats for sure at this stage.

C) Victory are a huuuge club yes, but the only rivalry thus far is between the fans in which we created by talking Victory up so much that we want to be bigger and better. So its pretty much a match within the terraces, but one where its like "respect, you guys are big and loud, were gonna be bigger and louder then you!" Truth is we are yet to have an important match with them, there hasnt even been a catalyst during a match to spark hatred yet, and theres little to no of that natural "fire in the belly" clash about it. All it is, is melbourne victory are great, we want to hate you and be better.

This match in particular is 1st v 2nd. Thats probably the only meaningful thing yet to date.

Actually the only thing i remember from a victory clash is when Archie came over to us in the Corner Post lads and danced like a douche. Otherwise its the same ole hatred that every club shares of Victory.

I think your flanks are the most damaging. Whatever side Vidosic starts on will be the side you will get the most space. We just need to keep the ball well and be patient.

id appreciate if you didnt speak for everyone because you are wrong. in terms of active support this is our biggest rivalry imo. if you are in the stands you may not agree but from everyone rbb member i have spoken to we all know this is our biggest game.

because we are the two best in terms of support. this rivalry is the biggest in the stands, esfc is a different type of rivalry. it is a matter of opion on witch you see as the more important but to me this is the biggest. im not sure if you have ever been to an ways days against victory but give it a go then you will understand why this is such a rivarly. no game in this comp brings the terrace together like victory away

the best way i can probably explain the difference is...at a derby if we go a goal down half the terrace drops there head (because there are alot of blow ins and people who are there for the spectacle) against victory we go a goal down and the terrace lifts and raises the atmosphere...

My take on the whole Derby matter - we're so lucky we're in a league that for a 10-team comp has some incredible rivalries.

WSW/MV games also have an added edge in Melbourne purely for the off-field battles. Nothing like this exists against City, even though they're a bigger rival.

Hard to explain the dynamic to someone that hasn't attended a game.
