Note 1: This game was a disastrous game for the Video Assistant Review system. The Wanderers should have been awarded a penalty early in the game, but both the referee & VAR missed it.
Note 2: Robbie Cornthwaite was sent off after a VAR system resulted in the referee changing his mind on a potential handball from no foul, to giving Cornthwaite a second yellow card & giving Adelaide a penalty.
Note 3: Adelaide's first goal was also a mistake for the VAR, as it missed a clear offside from an Adelaide player before the ball ran through to Kitto.

You guys are harsh on Gombau. We had a dude sent off on 20 min, he had to make calls. Taking off the creative dude for guys that can run fast all day is not unusual in this situation.

Cejudo gets back and defends better than jumpei

Starting Sotirio and Jumpei as crucial roles in a front three is already a hangable offense. I really like the guy but he isn't utilizing our squad to anywhere near its potential by shoehorning these guys into these roles.

Its a real worry

Good point. Perhaps he could come off instead, but not Sotirio.

Can't believe I'm arguing for Sotirio to stay on...

We'll have to wait and see with Gombau. But the immediate positive effect you get with some coaches taking over has not happened. Not a good sign so far.

Signing and keeping these players was a hangable offense.

Something Gombau had nothing to do with

My goodness. This VAR. I'd rather see an oppostion player get a yellow for that then wait for the referees to **** about for minutes.

we do need to be patient with gombau - his system will take some adjustment.

not starting baccus is very puzzling though. he has been our most consistent player for 12 months for mine - not sure how he could watch us play and decide that he is the one who needs to go from the starting 11?

Popa had a different system where the wingers were not so important. The fullbacks overlapped and did most of the crossing etc. Gombau plays his wingers as traditional wingers. They are much more important to the system under Gombau, crucial even. Putting two strugglers  in such crucial roles is silly.

Will Beath and the assistants get next week or two off for:

1) Missing the rugby tackle on Riera.

2) Either missing the Cornthwaite handball entirely, or missing that it was deliberate.

3) Missing the offside on the Adelaide goal.

4) Missing a straight red offence.

Agree.

Doesn't change the above reply I made to Edinburgh.

The problem with that system was that our fullbacks were always exposed, and teams got behind us on the wings. Best thing to do is get actual good wingers.
