Note 1: Mitch Duke opened the scoring in the 5th minute as Nicolai Muller broke down the left flank into the penalty area before a perfect cut-back that gave Duke a simple pass into the back of the net. The Roar came back strongly, equalising in the 20th minute as ex-Wanderer Scott Neville was given a free header from a corner that he buried to make it 1-1. The Roar scored the winner after an hour, Brad Inman working a 1-2 pass with Muratovic before firing a powerful low drive into the far bottom corner to pick up the winner.

It actually is absurd that the A League is a Summer sport.

I understand why it is...and as a spectator, I'd much rather be out in Summer than in the middle of Winter....but for player wellbeing into the future, it might not be sustainable.

yeah, a big problem the league faces but isn't the fault of the FFA

We'll probably need to schedule more night games

i.e. start a round on Thursday night and end on Monday night

I was hoping for a Canberra team to come in but now with the smoke cancelling Big Bash games that might not be possible

WelL said Wendy bunch of mindless Gorillas 🦍!!!

I have to say, I CANNOT understand parents wanting to have their kids watch or play the game.

I guess it's deeply embedded in the family culture?? of many in the community.

But the off the pitch scandals alone would have me wanting to steer young kids in another direction.

Still.... the media forces it down peoples' throats every night on the commercial networks' Nightly News, even in the off-season.

So I suppose its demise is merely a pipe dream.

I imagine so

Mariners and WSW had to stop a NYL game this morning at 65 minute mark because of the heat

Climate Change and ALeague could be its own thread

Just heard Rudan on radio say he thought last night's game should have been called off due to the severity of the smoke.

With regard to Meier, agree but surely this comes down to the coach - we’ve signed this fella to do blah and this is what I want you blokes to do to facilitate him.....yet we see nothing like this on the pitch, well rarely anyway. It’s just bizarre at times and reflects poorly on the manager and assistant

How do we know that MB hasn't been telling them to play off him though? For someone of Meier's calibre and experience, I doubt that he would go attempting this style of play against orders and similarly, I doubt that MB would ignore Meier's strength and not encourage/instruct the players to utilise this. Categorise the movement however you like but at the end of the day it's a simple one-two passing exchange which is a fundamental skill in football and is certainly not exclusive to any particular tactic or playing style. It was the same situation with Riera when he first arrived and once the players realised how he played, he became a much more dangerous proposition.

Unfortunately, A League in winter would not be sustainable. The support for sports that people want to watch but not play (real football is still the most popular participant sport in Aus) is too strong. And also the media support for those sports is too strong. It would be better to plan game times better. But the problem with that is that the foxtel gods would get upset and dump A League.

Yes to all that, sadly.

Enjoy being in Argentina!

Probably far better being there than here at the moment!
