So what does this loss do to the title chances ?

Depends on what title you are talking.

Seniors NPL we drew so you're only 1 point behind

Sydney 20s have wrapped up the title today

under 18s you are only 2 points behind

The Club championship you are now 30 points behind though we play marconi so this is likely to go into the final round.

so sfc get promoted and we stay in npl 2.

Not over, we play Marconi and then you.

You going up, coz we are doing all we can to limp into the end of season knockout competition.

Replacing a backline which included the likes of Aspro, Alessi, D'Cunha, Bandiera just doesn't happen overnight.

And that has been very evident over the past few weeks especially. Some very young lads trying to fill some big boots.

It was a great afternoon for football, the sun was shining the small hill was perfect for laying down watching a game.

tbh that was the worst performance I've seen from the NPL side, couldn't string two passes together, gave away so much possession they were lucky it was only 2-1. Marconi love to whinge, nothing new but just really funny to see to ref give it back to them. The penalty conceded was soft but unfortunately any decent ref would give it, overall both sides had their chances but failed to put the ball in the back of the net but it was Marconi that had managed to come out on top.

Wanderers downed by Stallions

It was a day to forget for the Western Sydney Wanderers’ PS4 NPL2 outfit after the Red & Black succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to the Marconi Stallions at Marconi Stadium on Sunday.

A second-half penalty from forward Marko Jesic handed Marconi the three points after the Wanderers Moudi Najjar had cancelled out Peter Markovic’s opener.

The win means the third-placed Stallions remain in the Premiership hunt, while the second-placed Wanderers failed to capitlise on league leaders Sydney FC dropping points over the weekend.

The Stallions started the brighter of the sides, with forward pair Sean Rooney and Mirjan Pavlovic spurning a flurry of early chances.

In reply, the Wanderers’ Brenton Fox had a fantastic opportunity to open the scoring though he blazed his shot over the bar from close range.

It was a gilt-edged chance the Wanderers would soon rue, as Peter Markovic struck home from the edge of the box after the Red & Black had failed to clear a corner.

As the half drew to a close, both sides spurned golden goal-scoring chances, with Fox again coming close after intercepting a back-pass and nudging the ball the wrong side of the post.

Though the Wanderers would get their goal moments later as Moudi Najjar slotted the ball into the net after a mazy run from Lawrence Hanna.

The home side weren’t deterred by giving up their advantage and they came out guns blazing in the second stanza; Pavlovic in particular causing the Wanderers back line all sorts of problems.

Hanna and Tariq Maia both had half-chances though the Red & Black were struggling to pierce a physical Marconi outfit.

The Stallions would soon regain the lead, as Pavlovic was up-ended inside the box, the referee awarding the penalty with little hesitation.

Jesic converted the spot-kick with ease and the Stallions were able to protect their lead for the remainder of the match without little resistance from the Wanderers.

The win means the Stallions now sit just two points behind the second-placed Wanderers, who in turn trail Sydney FC by a single point with two rounds remaining.

The Wanderers will look to get things back on track when they take on Mounties Wanderers FC at Valentine Sports Park next Sunday.

Our boys don't handle the physicality all that well, in that in the last few games they have been intimidated early and probably not been in the contest from the get go because of it. They are missing heaps of players and their captain is a big loss with his cool head, great touch and direction of play. Hope they can rebuild before the knockout stage.

it was mentioned in another post (Taurus i think) that the focus is not on promotion but on skill acquisition against men. If thats the case the game against Marconi is perfect.

i wonder if the club is planning to broaden the academy to include women and girls?

To say we are focusing on skill accusation is not accurate, it may well be what we are left with, however I fail to see how any team, coaching staff associated with the Wanderers brand would not focus on promotion.

Because it is literally men vs. boys and could arguably hamper their development (according to where the club wants them to be at that age)?

As I said, I get the reality, just not sure how you coach it..

Having seen the game (and listened to Taurus), I suspect that NPL 2 is the opportunity for WSW to bring in the young boys and give them experience against older, bigger, stronger and questionably more seasoned players.  It is clear that with the promotion of Shabow, Scott, Aspro, Bandierra, Allesi... to A League duty, the younger less experienced boys have the chance to grow into their game.

I suspect coaching is about giving them the skills and experience to develop their game, which is more skillful and more difficult than Marconi played.  Some of our players ran rings around Marconi and showed some good skills on the ball.  The overall maturity of the players isn't there yet and their passing game is developing.  They were overwhelmed by the physicality of Marconi and the long kick and run game they played.  We made plenty of mistakes but also had some really good moments.

This is about blooding young players (16-18 years old up) and giving them solid experience.  These boys are in the right level - NPL 1 would kill them.  As we are bringing players through rather than building teams from other available players we aren't seeking to win at all costs.  These games are a means to an end, rather than an end in themselves. If the boys can really lift and win then good luck to them but the more important goal for these boys is to develop as good footballers.  This is part of our long-term aim of developing young footballers for the A League side and there were some good signs.  Number 10 - think it was Maiar - was best on field but struggled to find team mates to off load the ball.  He ran rings around Marconi players and shows real promise.  Without Shabow he has the opportunity to fill the AM position and did well.  Our boys were considerably smaller than Marconi, both in height and physical size. Great effort from boys over men.
