Wanderers Youth vs Sydney FC Youth 8/12/2012 4:45PM
Muser Posted December 12, 2012 Yeah. Disappointing result. They weren't without their chances, and they did control possession for large parts of the game, but what cost them (aside from not being able to find the back of the net) was the number of times they turned the ball over when uncontested. Many passes not hitting their intended target or just bad touches where the ball bounced away to an opposition player. SFC weren't great (even the Football Australia write-up described the 2-0 score at half time as 'flattering') but they did convert the opportunites that came their way. The club does seem to be sticking with a development policy though - Tarek was the only first grade contracted player in the team this week (of the 5 or 6 first grade players who didn't strap on a pair of boots this weekend). Have seen a lot of the other clubs using the NYL to give some of their fringe first graders game time / match practice - the boys commonly line up against players like Kwasnik, Pellegrino, Cernak, Jeggo, Kostopoulos, Caravella, Grattan, Rocky Visconte and so on. (Even saw Van Dijk scored in last week's youth league match for Adelaide). Different approaches - but who's got it right? Link to comment
longball Posted December 12, 2012 Why isnt popa turning up to watch the nyl team. my understaning is that all other coaches are turning up to watch there youth team. maybe he has no faith in these boys. i would hate to think that he would need to use any. Link to comment

It'd be taped and the assistant/youth coach job would be to filter what happened. Link to comment

And a few of the boys are training reasonably regularly with the first team, so Popa is getting to see them in a training sense. But it would be good to see him out there in person. I did see him at the first game against Heart, but not recently. Link to comment
