  • Wanderers Penalised In Wellington

    mack

Roy Krishna knocked in a rebound from his own missed penalty to give Wellington Phoenix the lone goal of the match and all three points tonight, keeping the Western Sydney Wanderers languishing in 10th position and still yet to pick up a victory in the A-League this season.

Daniel Alessi, playing in central defence was judged by Wellington born referee Peter O'Leary to have tripped Krishna, although replays were inclusive at best, and at worst, indicative of a potential dive by the Fijian international. Krishna took the penalty he earned, blasted it into Ante Covic but received the luck of the bounce and turned it into goal on the follow up.

The Wanderers continued the same pattern of looking dangerous but being unable to make that impact on the scoreboard, as they wasted chance after chance throughout the contest. With rumours swirling of a huge shake up in the January transfer window, it could be the case that several players may have made their final appearances for the Asian Champions with only fixtures at home against the Central Coast & Melbourne Victory before the Asian Cup break.

The Wanderers next match is against the Central Coast Mariners at Parramatta Stadium on Thursday the 1st of January 2015, kick-off at 7:30pm.

Listening on the radio it seems like we had our fair share of chances but just couldn't convert :(

2014 is over. Let's start 2015 well with a win against CCM! Make sure you're all there! We need to be behind the boys!!

Perkatis offered very little, I feel in a game like this Trifiro would have been a much better starting option.

Coles set pieces, someone else needs to step up. Some of them were atrocious.

People keep going on about how good Juric is. I'm happy he is in our squad, but seriously he needs to start putting away some of these chances/half-chances. Even though we are lacking the creativity in the midfield, we have plenty of opportunity to score.

La rocca, spiranovic and covic were very solid tonight. Ruka's pace killed them in the first half but was a bit quiet in the second.

Whilst I am disappointed in the loss, I'm happy it stayed only 1-0. I feel that if we can't get a win under our belt soon, the boys confidence will be so low and we will be open to some thrashings.

Ohwell, hopefully I can shake this cold I've got. Look forward to supporting the boys back at parra on NYD!

disappointing result. farking ridiculous pen decision. but a good performance overall.

spira covic ruka and la rocca all very good and I thought the young boys did ok. spira especially ran the show at the back and made key interventions over and over again.

compare this performance to the adelaide game where we were so far off the pace that we hardly got a kick - tonight was much better. 50/50's were won, chances were created, possession was maintained.

we lack creativity massively though - once the nux decided they were shutting up shop in that last 15 we had no avenue to goal except golec crosses from deep and that was about it.

If you watch a reply of the *penalty*, you can see Krishna tripped on his own legs which caused him to fall.

    Alessi made no contact whatsoever.

I'm surprised our players did not complain to the ref or Alessi blowing up for the least.

We've now lost 3 games 0-1 each conceding a penalty.

Both vs nix, and 1 vs roar.

At the same time, our scoring has been terrible.

I feel we've gotten used to parking the bus in our ACL campaign and having a disrupted training cam are reasons for the drought we are on.

Crystal palace calling popa agian ****in sick of the rotation and the formation there's nothing positive in it 442

Frustrating when a single terrible decision from the ref won them the game. Positive signs as usual, but still can't score or win. Apparently we have a worse record now than when Heart sacked Aloisi. Don't think we'll get rid of Popa though, unless he somehow chooses to go to Crystal Palace. Not a fan of the 'managerial roundabout' - remember how long it took Sir Alex Ferguson and then he really built a dynasty!

If the shake-up rumours are true, I wonder who we'll bring in...guys struggling overseas (taggart, rogic, brillante?) or state league guys?

It's just a lack of confidence in the final 3rd.
the best way to combat it is to just keep fighting until it comes together.

It's time for us to get behind the team, we aren't ***** East Sydney FC supporters who hold banners asking for the coach and chairman to be sacked,
If you don't turn up or support the team now, then you don't deserve to be there when we do well

nathg, not sure what game u were watching, spira great in defence but absolutely nothing going forward.  100 touches before passing and another 100 pass to the side. I cant remember him attempting to build from  the back and continual bypassing perkatis and la rocco and instead went with long ball not sure what trif could have done if both centre back kept going long ball.. cole and haliti please pack you bags. cole corners and free kicks a haste and haliti went for hero status instead of just a simple cut.

Funny. Seeing the team lose inspires me even more to be there the next home game.

We need to get some stability in our starting line up. I am all for rotation but we are over doing it I think and its to our detriment.

    Players need familiarity and consistency.

Rotate around the edges sure, but we need to get some consistency in the starting line up.

    we don't play a 442. try 4-2-3-1

Or 6-3-1 to be more precise.  No appetite to attack and just play with two DM's in front of back 4.  So there's nothing up the pitch for someone like Spira to feed to hence he passes sideways or backwards non stop.  Totally wasted player or he's simply not ambitious enough.

I don't see the positives.  Our midfield really lacks creativity and most of our chances are hoof and hope crosses.

Yeah I meant defensively Spira was solid. I agree with you, too often la rocca, poljak or (insert another player) is in a good position in midfield, but the pass does not find them, rather finds a fullback who is then put under unnecessary pressure from the opposing attackers.
