Roy Krishna knocked in a rebound from his own missed penalty to give Wellington Phoenix the lone goal of the match and all three points tonight, keeping the Western Sydney Wanderers languishing in 10th position and still yet to pick up a victory in the A-League this season.
Daniel Alessi, playing in central defence was judged by Wellington born referee Peter O'Leary to have tripped Krishna, although replays were inclusive at best, and at worst, indicative of a potential dive by the Fijian international. Krishna took the penalty he earned, blasted it into Ante Covic but received the luck of the bounce and turned it into goal on the follow up.
The Wanderers continued the same pattern of looking dangerous but being unable to make that impact on the scoreboard, as they wasted chance after chance throughout the contest. With rumours swirling of a huge shake up in the January transfer window, it could be the case that several players may have made their final appearances for the Asian Champions with only fixtures at home against the Central Coast & Melbourne Victory before the Asian Cup break.
The Wanderers next match is against the Central Coast Mariners at Parramatta Stadium on Thursday the 1st of January 2015, kick-off at 7:30pm.
