  • Wanderers Smash Glory, Reclaim 2nd Spot

    mack

The Western Sydney Wanderers have turned their AFC Champions League form toward the A-League by trouncing Perth Glory 3-0, in a win that reclaimed second position and the vital ACL Direct Entry slot that comes with finishing the season there.

The triple treat was kicked off minutes before half-time when Jerome Polenz scored the goal the Wanderers dominance of the half deserved. His second goal in the A-League was a solo effort that began by running at Clisby, then when Jacob Burns blocked his initial shot, it bobbled favourably for the headbanded fullback, as he juggled with the knee before firing a shot that the Glory keeper couldn't keep out.

Mark Bridge secured the three point for Western Sydney on the hour mark. A turnover in midfield gave ample opportunity to run at Davies the Perth right fullback, and in typical Bridge fashion he cut inside, faked the young defender into giving him room for a shot, which he duly smashed to the far post, giving Duncan no chance to make a save.

Crowd favourite Tomi Juric put the sealer on the event with 13 to play, Ono & Hersi combining to put the right winger into the penalty box, before Hersi laid it off to Juric. One touch put the ball into the right spot for a powerful strike into the top right corner.

Perth were as dismal as their 10th place on the A-League ladder suggests, the Wanderers barely getting out of second gear yet still comfortably beating their opponents. With a full week break before the vital clash against the Mariners in Gosford, victory at Parramatta should set the stage for the Wanderers to claim second spot, as they now lead the competition for that place by 2 goals with three games to play.

The Wanderers next match is against the Central Coast Mariners on Saturday the 29th of March, in Gosford, kick-off 5:30PM.

    What a win!

    Is Spira unwell?

Really sad to hear about heavy handed tactics against RBB. This is not okay.

Played all over the glory holes. Could have been a few more. The Wanderdog stand in the Sth end was manned by which seemed a group of contract caterers who didn't have a clue and had nothing ready. I know it was better having them cooked fresh but hey there was a line longer than out the front of ParraSFC mum's house.

Next time put some more effnik flavour into it and have the grill plate full.I can assure you nothing will go to waste.

I thought second place gets us a play off ACL spot only, with the GF and the League winners qualifying directly.

First half was sluggish, you could tell most players were tired and mentally off their game, second half was slightly better.

In the end couple of moments of quality got us through.

At this stage of the year it's all about collecting points and not playing good football.

Enjoyed seeing Bridge outpace his marker and put that goal away.

    Should've been about 8-0.

Was great to put away three, but I think today we saw that some of our players don't have that cutting edge, that special something to make stuff happen - i.e. when we tried to walk the ball into the net (all 25 times)

Juric, of course, is not one of them. We are a whole different team with him on the field lately.

Polenz...Man of the Match performance both defensively and in the way he bulldozed through for his second goal of the season.

I hope Burns gets all the back-stabbing white-anting cur deserves from the poor sad bastards who are stuck with following the in-Glory-ous. He and his mates and Tony Sage took a club that might've threatened for a lower top 6 pozzie, bent it over, exposed certain parts of their collective anatomy and reamed it hard.

No wonder Llujbo farked off out of there.

Agree with Polenz, man of the match and boy did he need it and it was a long time coming. I wonder if a deal has been struck for next season, he seemed to have a confidence boost and a shadow of his old self once again.

People, when the capo gives you an option of walking out or staying and singing, when you choose to stay and sing, it means you chant your heart out! Not stand there and doing nothing!

After today, I think capos and core RBB should make the decision and that decision should be final!

I wonder if the club had something to do with the extra police presence?

And why today? Its not as if there was a build up to it that warranted it.

Must have heard the Perth Glory Ultras were in town!

Good win by the boys but a lot of issues with security & police. If you experienced or saw anything that you deem over the top policing please comment. Reports in that one member was given an on the spot 12 month ban for celebrating polenz's goal to hard; one for jumping side to side during call to arms (moshing?) And now one for 6 months for sitting in the wrong bay. Enough is enough

Respect to the capos for handling it the way they did

They stuck by their words and got it pumping by the end.

What a great game, we need to beat mariners to get a 5 point buffer.

Probably not up there with what the RBB had to deal with but the security guy at the back of bay 49/50 was a tool. At the front of 50 there's a bunch of kids who look about 10 years old and lean on the fence so they get a good view and high five the players as they leave the bench to warm up. Security went down and told them all to stop leaning on the fence and sit down. FFS they're 10 and weren't bothering anyone.

Also they threw someone out from the front of the bay. No idea what he did so maybe he deserved it but they stood there and waited until the Poznan to throw him out while everyone wasn't watching. He was a hero when he was telling off kids but a coward when dealing with adults.

    Random thoughts on the match:

    - Finally cole for d'apuzzo but didn't think he did that great but enough to keep the spot for next weekend

    - Everyone very good today, hard to give a motm

    - Hersi for me was the best out there today, he was our most dangerous, he had the best of the chances and (even though lacked the ball) got into position to deliver some very tasty balls

    - Not in my points but bridge had one of his more decent games, not just the goals but his runs/passing/engine. I give him plenty of stick so credit where credit is due

    - Poljak and la Rocca rocks in midfield, nobody notices them when they do a great job

    - The ref had a shocker today but lucky he was just as inconsistent and crap to both teams

    - It concerns me that we didn't convert as many in front of goal today, CCM today had teo chances today and scored both! Hope we aren't as wasteful next week in front of goal

    - I thought for the way that we have been swapping and changing the team over the past 15 days (5 matches) we had good energy and good combinations which might have been lacking ordinarily.

    - Sad to hear what happened in the RBB today, hopefully the club can come out and stand up for its fans!

***** fanta slurpy tent with no fanta slurpies and they had no clue when cooking up the wanderdog, lift your game Primo wanderdog bring in more taiwanese imports to get the job done.

Besides that great game and good performance despite how **** Burns Perth FC were, could have had a few more goals.

Polenz, Hersi and Poljak took them apart, Cole at LB shut down our weakest link with no Dapuzzo there. Even with Larocca shifting back to CB did a good job. Nothing like a game like that to lift the boys and get some confidence into our under performing guys like Bridge.

Bring on the coastal boagans were it will be like a home game up there.

    Very happy :woah:
