  • Nikita Rukavytsya To Sign For Wanderers

    mack

Media reports have surfaced that the Western Sydney Wanderers have won the battle with Perth Glory for the services of Nikita Rukavytsya.

Rukavytsya, who has a couple handfuls of Australian National Team caps, was targeted by Western Messrs the Wanderers & Glory and news has leaked from the Glory camp of the rejection of their large marquee level offer.

Should the reports prove correct, the carrot of playing Asian Champions League football for the current West Asian ACL finalists looks to have secured the signature of the 27 year old forward.

Rukavytsya exploded onto the football scene in Australia, with direct and pacy runs on goal with a finish to match, big things were expected of the Ukrainian born & Perth raised striker. After securing a move to Europe following a haul of 16 goals from 42 appearances for the Glory, his career has spluttered along, averaging just 20 games a season since.

The signing perfectly complements Tony Popovic's tactical outlook, and will place a lot of pressure on the likes of Mark Bridge & Kwabena Appiah.

In addition to the reports of several young Wanderers such as Marty Lo being signed to contracts, this is likely the final signing for the Wanderers this year, at least until the next transfer window.

it was Popas press conference that made this happen if its true. Basically said we won't up our offer our quality and our goals and record speaks for itself. If you wan't to be on the stage then the door is open to join WSW.

Also, the fact that before Spira and Tomi came to us they weren't getting national team call ups - s*** he got Topor a recall.

Ruka knows that if you work with Popa, anything can happen.

    Meanwhile at Perth...

Great signing. Bridge's place will be contested now. Still I think people are being a bit harsh on Bridgey. He has limitations (don't we all) but he has been a Wanderer since the begining and he deserves respect for that. I'll never forget it was Bridge who won the penalty that enabled us to beat NeverGrande. An awesome moment.

Yeah, he has his faults but he has been one of our best in getting a goal when we need it.

Hopefully tho ruka can do the same but add the x factor

    Kubi will still start, 100%.

    lol.

    Oh, hang on. You're serious.

    ****.

    I'm sarcastically serious.

On another thread I was criticising Ruka thinking we don't need him, but our lack of depth on he wings has convinced me otherwise. I'm pretty keen to see what he's got to offer.

can people explain exactly why this is such a good signing? i'm expecting he will be at least as good as what we already have, but can people say why will he be better? i haven't seen much of him.

i'm not doubting Popa at all but there's been a lot of hype around rukavytsya for years.

his stats look underwhelming, both number of games played and goals over the last 7 years.

i didn't have foxtel at the time he played for perth so i didn't get to watch a-league then.

i do remember watching him play for the socceroos (and olyroos), there was lots of hype around that, but he never did anything as i recall.

i know he will add depth up front for ACL 2015, so that's a positive.

he's a left footer, so for us are you expecting he will play anywhere across the front 3(like bridge/haliti/santalab)? or primarily left wing? or primarily striker?

any ability to play anywhere else, such as CAM? we need another one of those...

He's a ST than can play LW. He was as fast as Kubi but with the ability to actually finish and do something with the ball.

I need to see more proof of this or else it's just a rumour that is outta control.

That's what I thought especially after how troisi fell through, then mr wanderers himself said:

I never commented on this post because I didn't believe it to be authentic.

The journo who has written the story about Ruka coming to WSW is known to be friends with an Executive member of our staff, therefore, I would suggest the story has legs.

Club will probably face the media tomorrow to unveil Seyi, who lands here early am, so I expect all will be confirmed then.

I heartily endorse this event or product.

Rukavytsya is intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to his newsletter.

    Carly Adno wrote the story.

The following tweet contained a picture (which I can't post here) of her with the WSW Communications Manager.
