Nikolai Topor-Stanley

Thanks for your insights greenlion on China, great having inside knowledge and a contributor who has good working knowledge :good:

The club that are interested in Nicholai Topor Stanley are Shanghai Shenhua. They were reportedly looking to replace the Korea defender with NTS during the CSL off season. Looking at the wage budget and being the richest club in China, looks like they've money to spend to make it happen!!

Seeing as NTS would be earning 200-350k here, it is no surprise that he wants the move to go through so he can earn a decent wage. The salary cap here in Australia, really limits the earning potential of Australian players but at the same time but at the same time is the main reason why we have an equal/fair league where it is difficult for teams to create a successful winning side while keeping them together. Of course you can be successful but you've got to be able to adapt and have 1/3 of your squad leave during every year or so, always looking for bargains to bolster your squad.

The main reason for the salary cap isn't for league equality.

It's so the clubs don't send themsevles broke

Interesting choice long been my favourite players perhaps wasn't at his best this year.

But he hardly deserves some of the flack he gets around here about people making out he hoofs every ball.

So he clears it when he has too and when he can't find a suitable pass he goes long.

Better then forcing a short pass or doing something stupid and losing it.

This talk of him being past it is a little bit far fetched. Has another 2 years on his deal so unless someone comes in for him he is staying away.

And I hope next year when he comes back to his best then there will be a whole lot of **** i was wrong about this guy  :P

Only just noticed it, but as of last week NTS is the most capped Wanderer. Next week he will be the first Wanderer to reach 100 appearances across the three main competitions!

Actually his current 99 includes 1 CWC match.

Yep correct, but the point still remains that he will be the first Wanderer to reach 100 next week in competitive matches.

O' Captain, my Captain!!!

Is NTS your favourite player?

Know someone whose favourite player is NTS, and you haven't got them a Christmas prezzie yet?

Then be sure to check out http://www.wswandere...pu1iag74moxorud) -  and make a bid on his signed, match worn boots!  Worn in the match against Brisbane Roar, in which we won. 2-1!

What is going on with this guy?

Last two games, he has been so sloppy passing the ball out from the back. Now he got a straight red, maybe it's the week off he needed? Get his head & body right for a difficult run in.

On the transfer speculation: I want to keep our club captain, foundation player, leader at the back & champions league winner at our club.

The toll of a tough season last year where he played basically 3 games a week has taken it's toll on his body. No doubting his contribution to date.

Some players can play well past his current age, but his body won't allow it. Has been poor for many weeks now - it's his previous deeds that are keeping him in the team at the moment, which he deserves, but time is running out

Topor is up to 9 yellows already this year. Most since has been with us by a mile i think.

Is it our style, covering for jamo pushing higher, lost pace, change of natural clear at all costs game, etc?

Thoughts?

You're right... It can be a sign of all of those things.

In topors case, it's simply a case of his body not being able to do the things it used to do and what's required now. Last night, he was caught out so many times yet again. He's only 31, but his body is busted.

He's always been limited as a player, but his heart and no nonsense style has helped him have a very good career. Been a great contributor for many years, especially with us, but it's time.
