Youth League General Discussion

Recommended Posts

LY, AF & DA.

I'm hopeful of getting to training tomorrow & will be able to see whether they are back training with the AL squad.

Cant be getting big heads. AF is probably frustrated that he hasnt taken the next step. Same for the other two.. but head down and they might learn something from the top team.

Youlley, Fofanah & Alessi. Interesting. You'd think with the first team winning 7 in a row that they'd go "well I better train even harder".

Only just read that our 15 year old goalkeeper started at Colo Cougars and his current school is Arndell College :good:

Looks like he's following in the footsteps of Alexander. Except he's actually good at goalkeeping

There's a couple of posters on another forum claiming that we have a few 'politicals' in our younger age groups and favouring kids of Croatian origin. What's your take on this Taurus?

Context?

Many of our u13's played at SU58 last season, but are also the offspring of Popa, Ante & Zelko etc etc

I know Olympic are filthy about us taking all their talented youngsters, but I always thought they were of Greek heritage?

Do you mean there are some politics involved or do you mean the young kids have some left/right wing political allegiances?

Just imagine trying to get into the U13's team or if the coach dropped one of those boys

MT, the same people that are talking these rumours don't happen to be the same fans in our fan base that talk about the Croatian conspiracy that Popa is trying to turn Western Sydney Wanderers into the Western Croatian Wanderers?

Wanderers confirm Foxtel National Youth League squad

Friday, 11 November 2016

 -

The Western Sydney Wanderers have finalised their Foxtel National Youth League squad ahead of Sunday’s opening game of the season.
It will be the second season since the formation of the Wanderers Academy that tasted success in its first year with a Premiership/Championship double in the U18s and grand final appearances for both 20s and NPL2.

As has been the club’s philosophy since day one, the squad has been built with an eye to the future and for developing youngsters who can become first team players.

With a number of players being promoted to the team from the younger age groups in the Wanderers Academy, there is familiarity amongst the squad which has an average age of just over 17 years.

Noah Pagden is the youngest squad member at 15 after he made his Red & Black debut for the U15 Academy team only seven months ago. He recently played a Hyundai A-League pre-season match against the Newcastle Jets.

Liam Youlley and Tariq Maia are the only squad members over the age of 18 while Emilio Martinez (The Nike Academy) and Abraham Majok (Mt Druitt Town Rangers) are the only players who were not promoted from within the club.

Foxtel NYL head coach Trevor Morgan said he’s looking forward to seeing the team in action.

“Our new squad is very exciting, we have a great blend of boys who have been with us, know our system and are ready to start to perform at this levelâ€, said Morgan.

“We have some really young talented players from our Academy that we believe will revel and develop quickly in this environment: with the higher level of competition and being around a few more experienced boys we believe they’ll do exceptionally well.

“Progression is part of the plan and the fact a number are now in the first team is an indication that we’re starting to find and develop the players that the first team are going to need.â€

Spoke with Matt today.

He's signed with Blacktown City for the upcoming NPL season.

WSW offered him another NYL contract & he's still training with us, but he can't afford to put a roof over his head etc, on < $100 per week.

Speaking of former WSW youth goalkeepers, anybody else notice Tom Manos on the bench for ESFC on the weekend?

Any chance we can have a thread for the NYL Derby at Lambert Park tonight?

Were we allowed to go Taurus?

All NYL games are unrestricted free entry.

Only games under control of NSW Football such as NPL2 games last year, appear to be an issue.

You missed a cracking game which had plenty of goal mouth action.

 plenty of goal mouth action.

Would you say there was chaos in the box?

Plenty of individual brilliance?

More chaos in the box than individual brilliance, however, Maia's goal to seal the win was a rip snorter

We we're average but still won 6 -2.

Some AL squaddies, fringe NYL players & others returning from long term injuries got some game time.

In other news, we will have a new home for our NPL2 games this season.

WSW NPL2 trial games already being announced.

I suspect we'll also use these to keep our ACL players fit

So far I can see the following trials

Wed Feb 1st - U20s away to Hakoah @ 4.30pm Hefferon Park Matraville

Sun  Feb 5th - NPL2 away to Fraser Park @ 5pm Marrickville

Thurs Feb 9th - NPL2 away to Blacktown City @ 6.30pm Lily's stadium

Listened to a podcast where I heard the following

1. Okon plans to raid tge WSW youth team next year.

2. Tariq Maia and Mario Shabow will be signed next year at opposition A-League clubs (not the Mariners). Sauce was Rallis.

hope the club does something to retain both and the others.

Not surprised that other clubs are seeking to raid our naturally rich resources.

I'm not overly concerned about this aspect of our growth as a club, as some of the players being mentioned, despite having obvious talent are not necessarily destined to make it at senior level.

We have an oversupply of vertically challenged, talented midfield players, but lack the same depth in our defensive stocks.

The players that fit into the must retain category from within our current NYL ranks, are Baccus Jnr & Majok.

Those I'd like to see us keep include Tariq Maia, Cameron Devlin, Kyle Cimenti, Henry Davies & Nick Suman (GK).

Whilst it pains me to say it, the likes of Liam Youlley & Mario Shabow have had their chance to knock down the door & gain regular selection in the AL match day squad. They need to display hunger & a willingness to take their opportunities & force their way into an AL squad.

The likes of Jackson Bandiera, Ramy Najjarine & Abdulrahman Kuku probably have another 12 months to prove to the club, that they can improve their decision making or they are unlikely to progress beyond their current level.

Emilio Martinez is a poor mans Devate Clut & I'm surprised that he received a full time development contract in the 1st place. Goodbye lad.
