Watched the first two episodes of 'Star Trek: Discovery' last night:

I was a little sceptical because I am not a fan of what JJ Abrams did with his reboot of Trek in the movies, and '...Discovery' looked like it was taking its cues from the films. Especially with the redesign of the Klingons.

However having watched the pilot & second ep I can truthfully say that ST:D is both a vibrant and exciting addition to the Trek universe, and actually pretty reverential to what has gone before. It looks amazing thanks to the special effects and set design, which truth be told are only to be expected considered the money put into the show plus what can be done nowadays with CGI (it sure as shite ain't as clunky as the likes of 'Enterprise'). The actors and their characters work well (i'm impressed with the 'new' Sarek, and Soneque Martin as Cmdr Burnham does a neat turn as a Vulcan educated human), and having the Klingons speak their own language with subtitles is a masterstroke.

Will definitely continue to watch this new Trek

Huge fan as well. I don't mind the JJ Abrahms movies especially his versions of Spock and Khan.

 I've also watched the first two episodes of Discovery and agree it looks good.

I found the books on the Enterprise series more engaging than the tv series.

The only criticism for me is the change of Klingon’s so much from the previous iterations of ST. 

Apparently there has been quite a lot of artistic freedom from series to series but I felt this was to fit in with the movies (apparently they are two different universes so there is no direct correlation). 

Ive done some reading and really like the direction they are taking with Klingon empire in the series.

In the first two episodes, it was incredibly isolated so interesting to see the bigger universe.

I was really disappointed they killed off the captain, spent so long establishing her story and then gone within two episodes. I guess two episodes isn’t that long in a 13 episode x 5-10 season

The previous versions of Klingons in ST all had a sameness about them which at times looked a little "plastic". I like the differences in this series as it makes the characters so more interesting. Also I agree with using subtitles when the Klingons are speaking. In other versions of Star Trek I was always disappointed that the majority of aliens spoke perfect english....lol

Sunday night ABC 8.30pm there's a two part mini series about legendary 60s Aussie band the Easybeats.

I'm old enough to remember them when they were around, just watching the preview clips brings back a lot of memories.

I'd suggest anyone who loves music regardless of age give this a look.

Only just got into Enterprise before it got cancelled, then years of nothing.

Just watch the show, make sure it gets some hits so I don’t have another 10 years without a ST tv series :lol:

Repping one of my favorite shows of the last year: Legion

Highly recommend those who watch sci-fi. It is based off the X-Men universe but very different to any of the super hero series out there. Quirky, brilliant, surreal experience & the composer accompanying it is just brilliant with music he has chosen. A lot of the more spaced out electronic chill out stuff has been inspired by one of my favorite artists Nico Jaar.

Edit: Just to expand a little further, it is literally a mind trip without the acid. It is really mind bending & trippy fun taking a new approach to a superhero franchise. The way they approach topics such as mental health or physchological labels is interesting, there approach to mutant battles is different, fantastic storyline & the soundtrack/composer is just the icing on the cake.

Wendy...I mentioned in another thread about the TV series in the UK called 'Educating Yorkshire' a fly on the wall documentary following teachers and students in a typical Yorkshire school, was watched by millions.

'wait till I get that little ginger bastard' :D

'did you stamp on his head?'.....'don't know, might a dun' :D

A very ******* rare thing, a inspiring prime time nationwide BBC TV showing looking at my home town Redcar (kind of a suburb of Middlesbrough) lloking at young people trying to make their way against the odds. 

So ******* refreshing, usually TV programs about this region is condescending poverty porn like benefit street or some other such shtye...

This actually got me a bit emotional as they are the same streets I walked around. The Grangetown council centre James is sat in was the same building I was in aged around 16 I guess....when I was unemployed and had no qualifications. I have sat looking at that view over Middlesbrough where the flag is wondering 'what the **** am I going to do'.

It is not your area or even your country, but if you want a few inspiring stories about youngsters trying to make their way it is worth a watch.....o and my nephew is going to be on it further in the series...

Interesting, at the start, how he gave a simple demonstration of how the truth can be presented selectively to give a bad impression compared to the full truth (?) showing things, while they aren't perfect, are not bad. When a news story is selective such as the example he gave any attempted defence using the other facts rarely succeeds.

Certainly some of the best Australian TV comedy I've seen for many a year. The mansplaining one was devastating...I wonder how many time Karl Stefanovic cracked the shits watching it (assuming he would look at something far more inventive and intelligent than anything he's done).

Loved the first episode too, with its huge piss take on those inane trips to regional areas and the way the local tourist industry try to get their 15 minutes of fame. They certainly did the deed on Echuca Moama lol.

And how good has the last three nights been for the ABC? 'Four Corners', 'Q&A', 'How to Sell a Massacre' (yes, I know it was an Al Jazeera program) and then 'Get Krackin'. Love our public broadcaster.
