Came back from an excursion out west yesterday and stopped in Bathurst for lunch. Immediately thought of this thread.

Ma Duggan's Kitchen, located in Jack Duggan's Irish Pub is a great feed - I had the Gammon on Kale (made my Irish wife proud, just missing the champ, really) and it was bloody great on cold wintery day in Bathurst.

I'm down on the Murray again in a few weeks. Anyone have food highlights in Cobram-Barooga?

Will keep in mind your suggestion re Bathurst...often there.

Don't know any decent places for a feed in Cobram Barooga (was only there four weeks ago) but if you are coming through Tocumwal stop by the Big Strawberry...worth a visit just for the kitsch and to say you've been there.

And don't forget you ask for potato cakes when in the local cafes/fish'n'chips joints and not scallops...

yeap, the service is very...ummm..  polish, although its worth it for the deli .

i grabbed this a few weeks ago for a BBQ, a whole group of us gave it a bash and its on the menu instead of 'red sauce' and 'brown sauce' now

any recommendations for a decent european deli in the nepean? polmark in high st has very short hours.

Mate get some bread rolls, slap the ajvar on and fire away. Note that ajvar must not be eaten with that crappy $4 sliced bread you buy at supermarkets. The bread has to be a thick slab of some sort :)

I would've gone with Polmark, with perhaps a nod to the deli in Lennox at Emu Plains (they stock mettwurst which is like manna from heaven for wurst lovers like me). Harris Farm is also worth a look, but let's face it...the Nepean is still too Anglo.

agree on the bread, normally source it from here http://bakehouseonwentworth.com.au/

They're good but pricey. For what it's worth Aldi have some decent pane di casa and sourdough/rye breads, as does Harris Farm. When I'm further up the mountains I always get a loaf of something from Cafe Schwartz in Wentworth Falls, or a bit along the road there's a bakery in Blackheath that does some wonderful bread (it's a door or three down from the butchers on the corner).

they are a bit pricey but it beats driving down the hill and you can get a 10% discount card from their website.  We also always drop into Schwartzers at every opportunity.

yer that deli has become the local and even for non locals. There pastries arn't too bad either. Aldi is the best place for bread and decent price, the pan di casa and also love the thick fresh pizza square bases they sell that come ready with tomato base. Buy in bulk and freeze them for covenience!

Yes! Why have I not found this thread earlier.

My asian recommendations:

The Malaya (next to Cargo Bar), a bit upper class but amazing Malaysian food.

Sitney - Thai and Laos cuisine in Canley Vale, next to the station.

Valley Thai - Green Valley. Nice and cheap Thai!

Will be hitting up the Malaya next month, hoping it's all I've heard about it. Pleasant surprise in city Asian dining is Sokyo at The Star. Momofuku won the awards and is the most recognised of the casino's new dining establishments, but Sokyo would be my choice. You *really* pay for your meal, but daayyym, it's truly fine dining. The "Kingfish Miso Ceviche" is sex between chopsticks.

Agree, Sokyo is amazing, and 100000x agree that u reallyyyyy pay for it..

Not a cheap place at all..

But very authentic.

Added bonus was momofuku was my chef as I sat on the bench and he personally helped us choose what we wanted and cooked it for us.

Score!
