I do not want to sound as if I support insulting a person's religion, but in my opinion, Abbas's reaction and behaviour takes away all credibity from his complaint.  He clearly stated that if someone does not respect him, he will "attack".  And then he was punching people right, left and centre and even his own team could not calm him down.  I'm not into physical violence.  If Abbas had just kept his mouth shut after the game, not taken the thrill of a win away from his team by his tantrum, and then quietly made a complaint through the right channels, I would take him more seriously.

Anyway, I guess we all wait for due process to be completed.

personally i think religion is fair game but not race, you can choose religion you do not choose your race unless your Micheal Jackson

if he called him a Muslim **** or whatever then its obviously he is not calling him a **** because of his religion its just he happens to be a Muslim but also a **** and there is nothing wrong with that ........my post is going to be censored to hell :P

Reminds me of a song...

Parental advisory - explicit lyrics..

and if you have time look it up on youtube for the original clip - I didn't post that as its quite explicit... :-)

Santa should have just shut his mouth. Personally I think those insults can be more of a distraction for the player dishing them out than the guy receiving them as you are not focused on your job but a personal battle with someone else.

When it comes to racial vilification or the "Habibi Ole Ole Ole" I guess what people say is true.

Never assume someone has the same sense of humour as you.

The difference between stereotypes and banter is sense of humour.

This is a fair point - but imo some people are just ultra sensitive, and I get the feeling Abbas may just be in this category.

i think the players were told before the game remember this is a derby play with passion and act like its a derby so abbas thought as soon as some one says anything to me im guna act like i want to punch on to fire up the derby and the east sydney fans.

I disagree.

He could just call him a ****.

No need to add Muslim in there

I agree with you Nickos, if it was the other way around - ie if a ESFC called Hersi that, we would of all been up in arms and codemning ESFC to death.

No need for such things in sport esp at Wanderers who are as multicultural as you get.

But again, lets wait till everything is confirmed.

i dont know how the fuark you could say that, lost for words

if you wanted to call him a **** then simply call him a ****.

why add muslim in there if he didn't mean anything by it

but innocent until proven guilty, i support you santa

i agree that he did not need to add Muslim in there and really should have not but attacking religion is nothing near as bad as being racist, it depends if santa was saying he is a **** because he is Muslim or if he was saying he is a **** that happens to be Muslim, the Muslim part should have not been in there though

attacking religion is hardly as bad as someone attacking another person's race, they are not even close to each other

I think people need to understand that when you add the word 'Muslim' to the statement it is used as a form of separation and degradation against that person. You are saying "you are different to me and everyone else". That is why minorities become sensitive to it. That's why calling someone a 'white ****' isn't the same thing because you are not separating anything when the majority of the population is white.

Catholics had the same problem in Australia when the majority of the population was Anglican. But things have changed and there a lot of Catholics in Australia today and therefore the separation doesn't exist. the separation is basically saying to someone you are inferior in my country.

Oh FMD that's funny ****!! That post made my day.

In regards to Abbas's tantrum, I hated his reaction. I'm not a racist but a reaction like that just reinforces the negative stereotype for those who are so inclined.

Honestly, to use the word 'attack' and carry on like an absolute idiot, it just boggles my mind that one comment can cause such over reaction. Stop showing off and make use of the procedures that are already in place to deal with such matters.

I support Santa until proven without a doubt to be guilty. And then I'll be disappointed not so much at the racism of the comment but the absolute stupidity of it.

I'm just not so concerned with all this over sensitive crap. But that's just me. And I've copped a fair share of racist abuse growing up. I'm dark skinned. Call me what you want.

Innocent till proven guilty!

90% of the time a racist statement follows those 5 words (you're in the 10%)

I support santa even if guilty

We shouldn't bash and hate him now because he may have said something racist, we should support him and help him do the right thing in the future, but at the same we shouldn't say what he said is okay either!

Not commenting on Santa's guilt or innocence here.  But there's one really positive note to emerge from this whole regrettable situation (the allegations of racism).....which is that it is such a big step in the right direction to see the notion of racism treated with the contempt and condemnation it deserves.

One of the benefits of living in the 21st century, in a progressive and inclusive  society imo.

Nah.  Some people's invisible man/woman/thing is more important than others.

Honestly I don't know why you would give a toss about it.   This is not racial discrimination, this is the ugly side of football, much like the tackle from behind or studs up in a challenge, albeit far less painful.

Of course he was trying to offend him and get under his skin.  I have lost count of the number of times I have been called a Croatian c()nt (or worst still a Serb or Yugo by another Croat).  That happened last season when I played against a mainly Croatian team.  That is not racism.  This is someone who is trying to screw with my head and put me off my game.  By that stage, I had already scored two goals against them.  If I lost my shlt and got sent off, is that the right thing to do?  I would have never dreamed of complaining to a referee or the Association about it.

If I refuse to serve someone, let my kids play with their kids, or not consider them for a job because of their race or religion, then that is another matter altogether.  Santalab has no power over Abbas or superiority based on religion.  That's primarily why I don't care too much about this latest controversy. To me it's no more than banter and best left on the field.  At the end of the game you shake hands and get on with your life.  Hard to do when you are playing against lunatics like Abbas.  IMHO, his were not the actions of a reasonable person.

I was just stating why something like this cuts inside a person. The psychology of it. I thought Abbas's reaction was strange. If it hurt him so much he should have simply made a complaint to the ref at the time and pursued it after the game. It would have looked a lot better. He also has a little history of outbursts so it didn't do him any favours.

Note that I am not taking sides on this. I think both sides have played their part in creating this huge mess. I do also think that some have thinner skin than others, but that's the risk you take when you try it on someone.
