Meh...I blame the EFL, FFP fiddling and a chairman that has been there so long ( since 1986) that he has lost his way. Seems like a pivotal moment in the club's history approaching..and not in a good way.

From 1986 until say 2010 he was was of the wealthiest around, a self made man from a council estate who stood as a fan on the terraces before he became rich.

The game has moved on with the billions from the Middle East, Far East and USA. His peak time was 1994 to 2007..that time was long periods in the EPL, cup finals including a run to the UEFA cup final. You can make that UEFA cup final as the start of the decline.

Now he is just another moderately wealthy business man pumping money in to just keep the club going week to week.

It's just the end of an era really...

Breaking news  .....Woodgate sacked...Neil Warnock in!

he is exceptional at championship level, always gets his sides in at the pointy end come season's end.

expect no frills football and constant moaning at referee's assistant all game, likes giving players a bollocking, more a stick than carrot style, your chances of staying up have just improved i would say.

Remember playing his Notts County side in the play offs in 1991, we lost over two legs. I was just a kid then, shows how long he has been around the game! Hopefully he keeps us up, don't care how so long as he does.

Warnock era starts with a solid 2-0 win away to Stoke.

More confident of staying up. But big game at Hull next up...win that and we would be in a good place.

you guys will be safe, right man right place right time, i also fancy Luton doing a Lazarus Nathan Jones back there after his Stoke debacle.

Would be nice to see a little club like Brentford go up at the end season (beat Cardiff in playoffs would be nice), share the love for the smaller clubs i say.

I can see Brentford getting an automatic place at the expense of WBA. Hopefully Cardiff get nowhere near !!

No with  Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch FC

Although I have always though being an Airbus UK FC fan might be cool.

The bubble had to burst, too many clubs sailing close to the wind financially it seems, maybe the lower leagues are heading back to regional semi professional (though i doubt it) but clubs will be looking at their budgets and turnovers more severely now that's for sure, buying a star striker on big bucks has always been a gamble but more prudent scouting buys and home grown talent is the way forward atm.

who'd want to be a professional footballer these days.....

Terrible defeat for Boro at Hull. Warnock has a massive job to keep this lot up.

It's going to be a last game of the season job to stay up. The best I can hope for is that it is in our own hands on the final day...win and stay up.

Steve Gibson has been saying for the last few years about what a mess the EFL is.

Points deduction for Wigan coming. It is the likes of Derby County and Villa that should be smashed with points deductions. They have been fiddling and the FFP rules for a good while!

Boot have cut the budget massively to try and survive and within the rules.

I’ve been listening to the price of football podcast. It’s scary the spending levels of these clubs, well beyond what the clubs earn to get into the EPL.

They've got to try to compete with the relegated clubs from the PL with the parachute payments. It’s an ugly mixture, you’ve got to think that this is only the beginning.

Worth clicking through and reading this thread. Lots of dodgy dealing going on and a pretty major conspiracy if proven true.

Former owner Dave Whelan on record.

And Whelan is genuinely baffled things have gone south so soon after he sold the club, saying he thought he had left it in good hands.

The former chief added: “I thought they were going to invest in the club and keep it going, invest money and try to get them back in the Premier League, and now this…

“I just cannot understand what they’ve done. It’s just so sudden!

“I built the stadium for them, I paid £60million to build that stadium so that Wigan Athletic and Wigan Rugby had somewhere to play, and when I sold the club it was in a good condition, perfect.

“How can it have gone like that in what, six to eight weeks? Not even that!”

There's a thread within that thread listing all of the key figures in the decision to go into administration. The player to the right of the guy in question should look familiar to WSW fans.
