I did a 10 minute google on the new guys. 

 

Lederer we kind of know a bit about. Big football fan, been on our board from the start so he should know what he's doing. From western Sydney too which makes me more confident he'll get along with the fans.

 

Don't really know what Jefferson Cheng's into, some sort of airline business. But sounds like he's a football man too so that's got to be a positive I guess. (On a sidenote, he was also kidnapped and held to ransom in 2009)

 

Glenn Duncan was head of Pirtek and was on the board of the Eels but quit after a sh*tfight with the CEO (or something like that). Might be the wrong code but he has experience in sport in the area which is important.

 

David Slade is a partner in some British fashion shop. He worked with Lowy for 30 years and they're best mates so draw your own conclusions from that. Not sure of what he might actually bring except for some more dollars (Lowy conspiracy theories aside). 

 

Sounds like not a bad mix to me if I'm honest

I think Pirtek owner Duncan had the shites cause Eels wanted to charge more for Pirtek to become sponsors on the eels jersey. Pirtek said no and then lost the contract. Duncan being the smart businessman instead decided to bid for the stadium name rights of Parra stadium and therefore his company now receives much more publicity. Eels now play at his stadium (Pirtek stadium) rather than Pirtek sponsor the eels. 

A smart astute businessman like that on board for WSW is what we need.

Why the **** is this taking so long to go through!? We knew they were the buyers 6 months ago and they're still not taking over til the end of June.

End of financial year, I think.

Yep, also FFA will get to pocket this seasons clubs profit. I'd say if the club wasn't going to make a profit this season the club might have been handed over already.

 

I welcome our new overlords, just hope in the future there ain't no issues with a four way ownership.

Having read the lengthy document that Flytox linked - that mentioned a Jefferson Cheng in relation to the Philippines International Airport work - I am sure that Lowy/Gallop would have done due diligence on the matter.

 

Cheng is quoted in the article as saying that he did not want his family to abandon their interest in the project as it was their baby - despite the suggested offer of $100m.

 

This sort of vision and dedication would, I am sure, sit pretty well with WSW supporters.

 

Anyone in high level business these days is likely to have had a court case or three in their background. What is important is that they do not have any conviction beyond their determination to see the Wanderers grow and thrive!

He is also a Director of the International Goalkeepers Academy and International Strikers Academy running out of Blacktown so obviously already has an Interest in the sport!

Have to say that is my first immediate concern. For all the riskiness of going down the sole owner pathway, there is to some extent a degree of certainty when it comes to having someone like Charlesworth, Traktavenko or Sage as the guy who pays the bills. You might hate the owner, you may love him (or her); but at least there won't be any horse-trading and argy-bargy when there is only one person at the helm.

 

Having said that our new owners do seem to have business smarts and already plenty of understanding of the club and sporting culture they are engaging with. In an ideal world I wouldn't mind seeing them act like the Bakries group does for the Roar. Stay out of the limelight, let the football people take care of the on-the-pitch stuff, and where necessary make sure that dollars never become the only arbiter of what happens at the club

Somehow I don't quite think were in the billionaire category, which I quite like

 

And also, Tratovenko is Russian, which instantly makes him a richer billionaire than your average billionaire

According to a 2011 article Paul Lederer was worth $344 million. But an article from this year puts it at $630 million...... So that's... pretty ******* good....

You really have it in for Gorman too much. He ran the club well and that is all I care about. I wonder if it all starts to fall apart with the new CEO. How will people feel then? Gorman was pretty moderate in my opinion.

 

Yeah Gorman is a businessman. So are you. So am I. I wonder if someone offered you two million dollars and told you to forget about WSW for the next couple of years. What would your passion be then? You would probably forget about WSW and go travelling around Europe watching some of the great clubs.

 

The reason we are so passionate about this club is because in a sense it is all we have. You shouldn't make yourself appear ethically superior or less corrupted than others when in reality you are probably not.

There is a business component to the A-League. There is a business component to the WSW. Gallop was appointed to run the business side of things at FFA. Gorman was appointed by FFA to increase the chances of success for the WSW venture. Gorman is a business man who had a bonus component written into his contract. The sale of the WSW has been a business transaction between FFA and the new owners. Lyall did a great job building up a successful business, and he got his cut.

 

That's all there is to it. That's what happens in business. All the time.

I swear it, and I'll happily sign any declaration and contract, but even if someone offered me $1 BILLION to stop supporting WSW, I would reject them.

 

I think for some of you, football is just a game. It's just this fun little thing you do on the weekend, and if you lose, you think nothing more of it. For some of us, it's our religion. It's in our blood. We don't just support a club, we live for it. 

 

AND I'M GOING TO WRITE THIS IN CAPS LOCK FOR EVERYONE WHO INSISTS I HAVE IT IN FOR LYALL GORMAN. I DO NOT. I HAVE STATED REPEATEDLY HE HAS DONE A GOOD JOB AND I'M GRATEFUL FOR THAT. NONETHELESS, THAT DOESN'T CHANGE THE FACT HE IS A BUSINESSMAN FIRST AND FOREMOST. EVERYONE, JUST TAKE THE ROSE TINTED GLASSES OFF AND YOU'LL SEE THAT HIS NUMBER ONE PRIORITY IS NOT THE FANS OR PLAYERS; HIS COMMITMENT IS TO RUN THE CLUB AS BUSINESS. Philippines being the way it is, re: NAIA (main airport of Manila) 3 Teminal court case, is just a run of the mill turf war between local oligarchs (wealthy families) that runs the country.

 

Cheng won that case. Now he is set for a big payday with the current government (currently run by another oligarch/ family - Cojuangcos) offering to buy the terminal off him. 

 

Basically the terminal is a goldmine.

Time to build our own stadium

 

How amazing would it be to have our own purpose built stadium. Red and black seats and a nice big terrace for the RBB. Gives me a semi just thinking about it.

 

Won't happen for a very long time know but should always be the long term aim of the club.
