Probably why he's been faking injuries

I'm fascinated by this. Does anyone understand why he would do it? Is it a useful excuse for bad form? Is he bitter about being benched and is doing it in spite? Is it just his resistance to pain?

Regardless, pretty gutted it has come to this. He was magnificent in our victorious ACL campaign.

hamill another peg in the line of young western sydney boys destroyed by popa - Carira, Barrasi, Olsen, Perkatis, Lo with soon to follow Allessi, Forahna, Yoully and Dechuna. Couldnt even keep Kuzi.  Not much hope for up and coming young players. Sotorio seems to be the only stable player. Shame

Well off the mark. With the exception of Perkatis, I don't think it's fair to say he's stunted the development of any of these players.

If they had any talent, they would've been picked up by another club (eg Kuzi).

Just because they came through the Western Sydney system does not guarantee they will become world class footballers.

Correct redwhiteblack

that previous list is not a long line of young western Sydney boys destroyed by Popa.

That is a long list of players who are not able to cope with the mental and physical demands of playing for someone who does not accept mediocrity

Too many times players blame coaches and clubs when they fail - in almost every case they don't realise it's their own inability to be single minded in achieving their goals and controlling what they can control - their own commitment to training and improvement

All these players you listed had their opportunity... Others would have killed to have the opportunity they were given

some A-league teams could do with the Hammer, its a shame to see him go but like others said, he's down the pecking order at WSW. if I was MVC or SFC, id be tempted for an ACL contract, he's shown he can play in the ACL...

Aspro's 2 year extension signed is the final nail in the coffin.

Exactly. The percentage of players that don't make it is very high, regardless of surroundings.

Very true. Read it's something like 1-2% of players in European academies end up making it
This is why I like the German model of youth development which focuses on giving there young players strong foundations as only a small percentage of players go on to make it big time.

 Great to have you back longball, have missed your positivity in the last 7 weeks :good:

On the players:

- Caira left WSW to get more game time, how did Popa destroy him?

- We couldn't keep Kuzi because he wanted a senior contract after only a handful of games& was offered one by City. If you follow the developments on Kuzi it appears he will be frozen out of the City side & probably on his way out due to a reported bust up with his own team mates. Popa was furious when he left.

- Did you follow much of the NYL last year? I don't know if you realised but Lo spent a large majority of last season injured & was hard to give him a youth contract when we had so many boys knocking on the door.

- On Baressi it is a bit hard to tell as he did his ACL as soon as he left WSW, haven't heard anything of him since. Again that's Popa's fault?

- I loved Perkatis but unfortunately when he got his opportunity last year, he did an okay job but didn't stand out. Whose fault is that? We stuck by him for 3 seasons (spent most of the second season injured I believe) but didn't shine.

Is he injured or has he just been left out of the squad?

Bit worrying isn't it....

Taurus do you have any news?

Yep :xnod:

Hope for his sake, that he gets an offer in the January window.

There are a couple of clubs who will need reinforcements for their respective ACL campaigns...

Chances are he had talks, and wants to make sure that he doesn't pick up an injury.

Longball is back, offside again.

Destroyed, huh? Not measuring up is closer to reality. Of all the players that left the WSW only Mooy and Elrich picked up their game. Other than Aspro none of they young guys including Sotirio have shown yet that they can be quality HAL players.

Mariners may need a replacement for their Asian fullback, Hamill will be cheap. Mariners defence sucks hardcore, Hamill would be an upgrade over McGing.

Since when do Mariners have an Asian fullback?

Shades of his ACL days

He was pretty good

Hadn't played 90 minutes since October. According to Popa only played 2 x 45 mins in a couple of youth matches recently. There were concerns about his fitness and the pitch. That's the reason why Popa held back with the final sub.
He was a bit shaky early but was superb for the rest of the match & there were people that wanted him out :shok:

Now get him on the right instead of Neville.

There was one moment in the second half when I'm sure it was Hamill that had a bit of space and went for a run, reminding us he can play RB.

Also if he's out there then you don't need a CB on the bench (which we've riskily not had sometimes) and one Mr S.M.Cole can be the versatile supersub!

Yep, was definitely him. Always said he is better going forward than Neville and imo at worst, as good of a defender.

Although I wouldn't be upset if the author went ahead of both of them.
