This was always for the benefit of the Rugby

Its a liberal government they look after their private school network

"Rugby Australia events supported by the NSW Government have attracted 147,000 overnight visitors and generated $102 million in overnight expenditure for the NSW visitor economy over the past five years," Ayres said.

Is that supposed to sound impressive? 147,000 visitors and $102 million over five years? So that's 30,000 visitors and $20 million per year in 'overnight expenditure' (whatever that is)

If 30,000 visitors generate only $20 million, why aren't we pushing for bigger events? I'm pretty sure there are other sports out there that can get us more than 30,000 visitors a year. I dunno... maybe a sport like football?

For our upcoming season, I saw a list of events for Spotless which makes our contract nearly impossible redundant. The list of events include the X-games, Irish Festival, Rugby Sevens, BBL and the Royal Easter Show.

With the FIFA window being observed for October window, we might be starting with a Derby at ANZ again.

Just saw Alan Jones on the news talking about the Parramatta Light Rail. A paraphrase: "where is the sophisticated research data to show the need for the Parramatta Light Rail"

Hypocritical bastard.

Tell him the line will go through the boys change rooms at the Kings School and he'll be on board instantly.

Apparently, the Parrot is about to loose a defamation case in Queensland and have to part with some significant coin.

Just read how connected Tony Shephed  (GWS Chairman, SCG Trust Board member) is.

Apparently, the former Transfield CEO was asked by the Federal Government to conduct a review on a big government infrastructure fund. In the Senate today, he was asked why he recommended that the fund be exempt from Freedom of Information (FOI) requests. His answer was that they were bogged down by FOI requests.

His mates tried to do the same thing by hiding the alleged business case for rebuilding the SFS.

What a p****

I’m a bit late to this but this snippet made me laugh.

As most of you probably know, I work for Hockey NSW. We run 20 events during the year (State Championships etc.) across the state where we have “overnight expenditure” by our members. Basically this is an average per head  figure based on the total accommodation, food and entertainment spend.

Our figures are pretty much on par with those above. We have 28,500 spectators and players attending these events across NSW and we generate an overall economic impact of $20.1M for the state.

If a small second tier state sport is pulling these figures, they’re nothing to boast about by the ARU.

Ayres' figures (and most figures given by politicians and not directly from the appropriate treasury department or an independent budget department) are complete bullshit guesses that are invented by a collaborating accountancy firm then massaged to make the party whose policy it is look better.

Ayres has absolutely no idea what economic income the events generate, just a guess of guesses. They are basically fictional, and invented to justify whatever political purpose they are needed for and can be rendered irrelevant by a change in leadership, a "captains pick" by the premier or department minister or a requirement to change policy for political purposes.

EG the ANZ & SFS rebuilds. When the decision was made for double knockdowns it was all guns ahead. Then they suffered a backlash (thanks Fitzsimmons) and suddenly the ANZ rebuild was off the table and replaced by a 'redevelopment' that cost 400 million less than the knock down rebuild.

The figures didn't change. The potential use of the two stadiums didn't change. Even the Premier changing didn't change the policy. All that mattered was that their party suffered by giving the opposition a political advantage and tried to neutralise it.

Stuart Ayres is a total jerk.

He is only interested in politicsl gain for one person in this state and that is Stuart Ayres. He obviously wants to be the Premier of NSW and that is why he courts Alan Jones and Tony Shepherd.

The moment his lips moves is the moment a lie or half-truth is spouted. He is the most undeserving politician in NSW. He is on a par witje Eddie Obeid.

With a modicum of luck, he should be history at the next election, but then he'll turn up somewhere else like all career politicians.

Harder to get out of than the Aussie Cricket team used to be.

He doesn't have enough clout to get onto the trust. It'll be Westconnex or GWS or some other Tony Shepard linked company.

Well there is at least one positive coming from these lying, cheating, corrupt mofos: they are ensuring that Parra stadium is done on time so that they have the runs on the board and can start building their new stadium for all their pals.

Just astonishing that the trust could employ a bunch of lawyers to effectively invent a new "certificate" in order to make their safety claims. They truly are unbelievable. This is the sort of thing the banks are being called out on. Make an ethically dubious decision then call the lawyers in to make sure they've bent the law as far as possible without actually breaking it. And it barely even makes the news.....

It seems very convenient that this safety issue only really becomes an issue in 2019. So if anyone dies at a game this year, that’s cool.

It’s a joke, they are making out the foundations are faulty & the building is about to come down. In actual fact it’s political maneuvering to ensure they get a piece of the pie. Why should more money be spent of ANZ & Parramatta stadium. They wouldn’t be doing there job (that’s the reason why they were put on the board the likes of Jones, Red bottle man etc).

Thank god our sport doesn't need a light rail line as a pitch.

Good point. Why did the SCG Trust allow the grounds to become so dilapidated? Must have failed in their jobs so they should all be sacked...

If labor gets elected, that's first thing they should do is to have an enquiry as to why they, the SCG Trust, let the SFS to be turned into a shithole?

All the SFS needs is a refurb, not a rebuild. They could stop the rebuild if get they elected or if Stuart Ayres doesn't get re elected

So having a look at the new stadium plans it looks like they'll get just under 2000 standing places in the north terrace....

Are you talking about the new Western Sydney Stadium?

If so, you need to comment in the other thread, and, how did you come to this conclusion?

Yep, posting in the correct thread (and I did say 'they'll). I'm looking at plans now.
