Recommended Posts

Just saw that Sapreet Singh transfer will result in a fee of around $1m. so that means Bayern Munich are paying the FFA since the FFA have fined the Nix $1m.

What is this I am hearing about a potential Australian World Cup hosting bid in conjunction with Indonesia?  Surely we learned our lesson after we got embarrassed last time.

why would he? Gallop is CEO of FFA which aren't going anywhere.

Perhaps Greg O'Rourke may go since he is the Head of the A-League.

The management of the Leagues will be delivered by a dedicated organisation that in the first instance will be transitioned from FFA and evolved rapidly in the coming season and thereafter with Clubs committing to providing the necessary capital and human resource investments.

The Leagues’ management organisation will be responsible for the commercialisation and growth of the Leagues’ intellectual property and commercial rights. The organisation’s work will deliver multi-year strategic plans for each of the three Leagues, which will include areas for collaboration with other football stakeholders to grow the game. Australian Professional Football Clubs Association (APFCA) has committed to the finalisation of those plans in the coming weeks as part of the NLWG process.

Good news is that the clubs are finally going to own their IP which means they can now make proper money off merchandise and not this communist system of sharing it amongst everyone.

Also means you might finally get a wider range of random merch and hopefully unique websites across the clubs.

Interesting some of the finer details such as % of overseas transfers and potential future club sales, I wonder if there is other leagues around the world that have this.

As with any off field issue in Australia I don’t see this as being simple as by next year it’s done - sure there is hiccups along the way.

I wonder what this means for the VAR as well.

Serious thoughts...anyone?

It was a terrible, reactionary policy to begin with. It was based on fear that if the ethnic clubs showed their heritage it would lead to the bad old days of the NSL.

It was a policy that was also never consistent (Anglo-Saxon or Jewish teams (like Lowy's team Hakoah) could proudly display their heritage) and alienated many football fans.

It should never have been implemented, and it is a good thing it is gone. Football should be proud of it's heritage and multiculturalism (not so reactionary to people who don't even care about the game).

Returning to ethnic/national identities says a lot about the ambition of those clubs who choose to imo, particularly those wanting to join the eventual second division.

The second division and the clubs competing within it need to give themselves every possible opportunity to maximise support and commercial funding because it’s going to be a real hard slog for at least the first 3-5 seasons no matter what. Going back to those specific identities is very isolating and will not help the cause.

Tbh, that's what I would have thought.

A local identity...great.

One specific identity based on ties to a former national identity would appeal to those of that identity, but probably  potentially excludes those who arent.

The brilliant thing about the A League, and clubs like ours, was that it did away with the narrow loyalties of the past, and included everyone.

Most of those clubs have tried to move away from being mono-ethnic anyway, for many of the reasons listed above. But to explicitly state that you cannot celebrate your heritage, is plain offensive to some people (particularly when it was so poorly handled and not consistent).

I agree. From a personal point of view I don’t have a problem with clubs calling themselves whatever they want. Subtle shows of respect to their heritage like flags on jerseys and in logos I support too.

I just don’t think that from a commercial and supporter perspective, naming a club based of a specific identity is wise considering the period of expansion we are currently striving towards.

I suggested he would resign once he couldn't scupper the independent A-league. His kingdom was cut down by 60-80%.

Good riddance. If only he was gone tomorrow.

“The FFA board has thanked David for his significant contribution to FFA and the game and for signalling his intention early, allowing for there to be a considered search to find a suitable candidate for what will be a reshaped role in 2020.”

Can someone remind me of what positive developments occurred under his watch?

(FFA Cup doesn’t count)

You just know the "considered search to find a suitable candidate" will be talked up as them scouring the globe for the best and brightest, then giving the job to the guy at the desk next to Gallop.
