Do we have to have it at every event though. Don't need reminding .

How many  such occasions do you attend per year?

Being reminded half a dozen times a year isn't difficult, surely?

As for one people, one flag....that would have been nice for them to have thought about prior to taking indigenous babies and putting them with white families. And traumatising a whole race of people.

Throw in dispossession,  and displacement from their homes, cultural genocide and the discrimination with which they were treated for almost 200 years, and which is still present today, to varying degrees as well.

My final point on this , a product of the times , not excusing anything.

Young white women who had babies out of wedlock had their babies taken off them without seeing the child and adopted out , ever considered them ?

Even today if your baby is at risk or you can't support it DOCS ( or whatever they are called this Saturday) will take it off you.

Reluctant to mention this as well Welcome is a nice little earner , what about $450 a pop.

Yes I have considered those white women too. In fact I have treated some. But the reality is that the stolen generation is different.

Im glad we’ve reached your final point though. :D Time to focus on the game!

Not sure these fully qualify for wrgmg but off topic doesn't seem appropriate either.

Aaaah, the "benefits" of new technology. I expect we all realise that we are being inexorably pushed and even forced to use and accept the introduction of technological versions of so many things, like it or not. All for the customers benefit of course. Some aspects of the changes leave a lot to be desired.

Firstly an older issue we were caught out on & were reminded of by a friend's recent experience. Once upon a time there were Medicare offices where you could go to to submit claims. You could wait in line or just drop it off, you could see how long the line was to help with deciding whether to wait. Then they were merged with Centrelink where you could get a readily available form, filll it out and leave it for processing, you knew you could quickly go in and get the form etc. Nowadays, you line up, wait your turn, ask for a form, your request is entered, you wait until that "job" pops up on someones screen, the form is printed, your name is called, you fill out the form, then line up so you can hand it in, and then wait x weeks which is longer than it used to be. There is an option to wait to be served instead of wait for the printed form, time period unknown either way. Printing the form at home is not an option. I think there is an online option as well? Which I've used? Those less likely to cope with the online technology are also those less likely to cope with the added physical difficulties of current office processes.

This next one is happening to a lady my wife knows. She lost her seniors/pensioner Opal card. Bearing in mind what I said earlier about being forced to use new technology including Opal cards, what happens next is mind boggling. The only way to report this and request a replacement is by phone. You can't deal with it online, or go to any office of any sort. So, she calls the number - yes, I can see you have a card linked to your pension number - good, please arrange a replacement - I can't do that because your husband was the one who applied for the card, as one of two, we need to talk to him - that will be difficult, he's dead - we still can't arrange a replacement for you - can I go online, send an email, write a letter ... ? - no! She gives up and calls again the next day hoping for a better result from a different customer service officer. No such luck, but she perseveres a little more. So, to get a replacement of one of these wonderful technological advancements, she needs to submit a paper form with attachments, she can't get the form online, it has to be posted, she then needs to complete it and submit it with proof of her husband's death to get a replacement card in her own name, which she will be able to use to spend her own money (albeit with seniors concessions). You must use the new technology!! However if you lose it we will use prehistoric processes to give you a replacement! Madness! She would have been better off getting some bloke to get on the phone and pretend to be her deceased husband!

Aplologies to MathyouWSW for the length of this post.

That made me laugh so hard. No need to apologise.

But I know the feeling, my parents brought new mobile Samsung phones a while ago and it took me almost a day to teach them how to use it. The thing is my mother does is sometimes she'll knock the mute button during calls so she wonders why I'm continuously hanging up on her to call her back. Eventually, I call her on the home phone where she finds it more easier to use.

I fear on the thought that they want to put our licenses on mobile phones as my immediate thought is about my parents cause they are just not very good at using the latest range of technology.

A really good discussion here on Welcome to Country & I think the opinion of @scarcev & @dmixtaaa is very relevant too

We can call it political correctness gone too far but I think once you weigh up all that has happened to our indigenous Australians since Europeans came to these shores then I’d say it is a small part of a long road back. You’ve only got to see from the Closing the Gap report delivered this week, to see how far we have got to go. Personally, I think it’s more of a positive than a negative. Probably belongs in unpopular opinions not wrgmg

I believe in one country , one people  and one flag not us and them , that's divisive. Don't know of any other country who has this or for that matter three flags.

Walk into government offices and there is three flags , the Australian flag , the Aboriginal flag and the Torres Islander flag. Again which other country has this. Indigenous people didn't have flags , that was a copied from the British who came here.

Look with the Australian flag I wouldn't care if the aboriginal flag was inserted where the Union Jack is  , even though that's part of our history. But then what about the Torres Islander flag. Can't insert that as well the flag would look like a dropped bowl of fruit salad.

As for the different story telling there are/ were 200 different Aboriginal languages but with dialect difference the number swells to about 500 I believe.

For me one country , one people , one flag.

This came about intitally because Bankwest and the Club decided that with Western Sydney having the highest Indigenous population in Australia they wanted to ensure that there was recognition that Parramatta was a special place for Indigenous people, they got a couple of Local Indigenous people involved and wanted an Acknowledgement of Country for the Stadium.  The idea behind an Acknowledgement of Country (different to a Welcome to Country which can usually be given by a local Elder only) is to continue to recognise and acknowledge the local Indigneous people of that area.  Acknowledge that they still exist, acknowldge that even though the land is a different shape now, there is still that connection to Land and it hasnt died.  In traditional times you could only take resources off another Indigenous people's land if you were welcome on it by the people themselves, so this is to respect that tradition.  In the same way we mark and march ANZAC Day even though we all know what happened we don't want it to be forgotten or not acknowledged but we want to show respect to those that made it through and live to tell the tale to remind us of things that happened that we don't want to repeat.

I understand that at the football you may see this as counterproductive and 'tokenistic' but it reality is is 20 seconds of your life when they are not belting out the latest crap dance track, showing oblivious folk on their phones during oblivious cam or promoting another dodgy sponsor.  It is 20 seconds that to you may be a divisive confronting pain in the ass but that is becasue you are taking it that way, it is not meant to be a reminder of the division, or as you put it the babies who were taken away (what about the white babies???) but rather it should be inclusive to everyone, it is a WELCOME, an acknowledgement, it is a mark of respect, to the away supporters, teams and sponsors (whom hear it only once not every home game like you do)  it demonstrates that Wanderers are an inclusinve Club and to those of us who have heard it all before it is a time for refelction and a recognition that we are privaledged to live in this great country and a mark of respect for those who came before us and accept they are still here.  So next time it comes up, recognise it for what it is a welcome, just like a double kiss on both cheeks from your nonna at the front door,  it is about how lucky we are, accept that Indigenous people are the original owners of this land and never gave it away but are also happy to have you here to share in this great country and then it will be an inclusive experience rather than a divisive one for you, or just go get another beer or take a piss instead when it comes up and ignore it if that makes you feel better, up to you.

Endeavour energy are a bunch of useless ****s

My mate works for another energy company. He says that they have reduced the number of staff used to respond to these emergencies. He was re-purposed from another part of the organization to help out, even though it is specialised work.

Well yes and no, I live in an area with a low population, they really don't care too much about us compared to popular areas and overall having fewer staff is better for them

This week on WRGMG...

I work in a call centre environment where I receive inbound calls from customers that are either looking at buying consumables for their equipment, upgrading equipment or need to log in a service call on their equipment.

Today, I had a call from one specific person (*cough* some immature b*tch from Officeworks *cough) that decided as soon as I answered it, they had me on hold. I could hear their "on hold" bulls*it music playing on the phone with the s*itty officeworks chime that you would normally hear on their televised ads.

I thought well, if you're going to put me on hold, I'm just going to hang up as there's other calls to answer to and our company policy to try and answer sales phone calls within 1 minute.

This specific call from Officeworks...had me on hold FIVE TIMES after every time I hanged up and they called us back

When she eventually answered she goes "oh..about time you answered"
(I should add she sounded young and dumb)
I replied "excuse me"
She responds "well I called five times and you guys hanged up on me which is quite rude"
I replied "Well it's also rude to call someone and have them on hold as well while we have other customers to deal with as well"
She went quiet...and then said "Well I had a customer at the counter"
Personally, I don't care...while she said that, I replied "What's the call in regards to?"
She reponds "I need service on our equipment"
If the b*tch actually listened as well to our voice operator as soon as you call the company I work with...you press 2 for service.

A few minutes later one the customer service team members told me how she got sh*tty we could service her machine today but have it as high priority for tomorrow and told us "we are making them lose around $10,000 of sales today". Yeah...it's not like Officeworks make a lot of money hey?

My work supplies stuff to Officeworks and I have to say that some of the most dumbest people work at Officeworks.
