Happy?

  • The Louisville police chief was fired after officers shot and killed David McAtee, a local restaurant owner and beloved community member early Monday morning. Officers who shot at a crowd gathered near McAtee’s restaurants did so without activating body cameras. They claimed they were returning fire.
  • In Philadelphia, police responded to protestors with aggression, using tear gas and rubber bullets against those out past a curfew that was enacted with short notice. Such violent tactics were not used against a group of armed white men who gathered in the city’s Fishtown neighborhood who said they had turned up to protect businesses from looting.
  • In Washington DC, military helicopters flew low to disperse crowds, and officers doused protestors with pepper spray. General Mark Milley, the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff and the senior-most military officer in the US, walked the streets of DC, saying he was observing National Guard on patrol.

I really don't get how anyone could be from Western Sydney and a Wanderers supporter, seeing the police brutality we've had unleashed on us for incredibly minor situations (plus all the police misconduct here in Australia, away from football), then seeing it happen in the US in far greater intensity with rubber bullets, gas attacks, cop cars ramming into protestors, horses stampeding children, national guard shooting people in their own homes and attacking the media, and thinking "yeah, the people protesting racist police street executions are animals and I'm happy seeing them get brutalised."

so far i have seen one video of police being good and de-escalating a situation which would have gotten bad and about 50 of them being abusive and making things worse, they are not even trying to hide their shitty behaviour, its tiring enough just to watch this from the other side of the world

It’s a mess isn’t it? My heart breaks, all those who have had enough of the suppression & want to act, those that have died, those that want a change & those that have been adversely affected.

It’s day 8 & no end in sight. All this happening while Coronavirus still running rampant in the US

There are now a few instances I've seen of police, and I think, National Guardsmen taking a knee, or acting in solidarity with, rather than acting in hostility, against the protestors.

Probably more instances of that than we see, but the more dramatic footage is going to get more prominence, most likely.

New Orleans and Miami are the big ones comming out with solidarity. Not sure of others

Computers.....:nono:

Yesterday at about 2pm my laptop all of a sudden refused me access to the internet. It said I had the internet but wouldn't let me access. Grabbed a tablet....logged on...all good....so it was my computer. Ran a complete malware/virus scan which came up fine.

What followed was 7 hours of installing and uninstalling devices, drivers, browsers. all to no avai........no matter what i did....even a recovery from back up didn't help. I kept getting different error messages as to why I was having problems.......about 8 of them.....so.....Made the decision it was either a fresh install or a hammer. Tried a fresh install and after a further 4 hours it started up and connected straight away......all the while I'm none the wiser why.....:nono:

WRGMG...Uber Drivers, their service is getting worst.

I confirmed to get an Uber around 4:58pm today from Regents Park to Sefton. I made sure to book it early as I had to get home early tonight. The Uber driver was two blocks away from my work and was scheduled to be at my work at 2 minutes. I thought "perfect, I'll be home early for dinner".

At around 5:11pm, I cancelled the Uber cause the guy wasn't moving at all...his car stayed in the same position the whole time and I would of missed the 5:15pm train. Lucky enough, I checked the timetable for the trains and there was a train at 5:30pm.

So, I confirmed for another one at 5:18pm. Unfortunately, I got the same f*ckwit Uber driver. I thought maybe this time he'll eventually move to come and collect me. I gave him 10 minutes and he still didn't move, I cancelled at 5:28pm.

By then, I gave up and decided to walk to the station which took about 20 minutes to walk to and didn't get home till about 7pm. :nono:

I've just lodged two complaints about the driver now on the app and mentioned "he doesn't deserve a 4.9 star rating if this is the type of service he'll provide" and I also mentioned "maybe it's time to switch to Ola if this is the type of service your Uber drivers are going to provide to me."

It might come across as I'm bit of a prick in their complaint but tough luck...I'm looking forward to their responses.

Brings back memories of trying get a cab on a Fri/Sat night back in the day...."we can take a booking sir but expect a wait of an hour or so"....was common.

It’s funny you say this, Ive heard ubers complain that there are just too many drivers out on the road & nobody was picking up many fares. Funny that this driver would pick your fare & then proceed not to pick up either of your rides. Utterly bizzare.

See...this I can understand, because they are notifying you how long until they arrived. What pissed me off is the app advises me the Uber driver is 2 minutes away and yet those 2 minutes have elapsed and he still hasn't even moved. That's poor service IMO.

I remember a while ago I had one Uber driver (probably in his early 50's) that complained to me about accepting short trips (one that would cost approximately $10 to get to the destination of your choice). He goes "oh, it's not worth it, it's a waste of money and it's a waste of my time" and I responded to him "Wouldn't you consider yourself lucky that there's fares available your area anyway?" He seem grumpy about my response. Bare in mind...this guy had a star rating of 4.6...makes you wonder why his rating wasn't good.

However, I spoke to one another Uber driver (probably the best one I've ever had) that was in his 60's, retired, decided to be an Uber driver so he kept himself occupied throughout the week and asked for his thoughts on some Uber drivers cancelling short trips. He said "Well, that's absurd!. Why would you cancel a fare (unless you are busy or done for the day/night) because it's a short trip? I'd be happy there's fares available to do in the area!"

Anyway, Uber got back to me (at 2:55am, (what a bizarre time to get back to me...unless the support team is now based in USA) and mentioned they are giving me $10.00 credit. I suppose it's better than nothing.

I'm lucky to have had mainly positive experiences with Uber both here and in the US. However there have been a few standout douche-bags.

One thing that's interesting between here and the US is that they don't seem to have the same quality restrictions on their cars. Balks and I got in some shockers in Hawaii. One was a 30 year old Lincoln town-car and another was a beat-bomb that didn't have working seat belts. We tried Lyft too, but got an equally dodgy Jeep, so it was really just hit and miss.

Back here though, the two worst ones were while we heading to or from the airport. The first one I'm still not sure on, but I didn't like how he went about it. We order an Uber at 5:30am, dude rocks up and then "accidentally" cancels the trip on his phone (not sure if it was on purpose or not). Then proceeds to physically snatch Balk's phone out of his hand and request and cancel three trips on the app before it gave our ride to this driver again. We weren't pleased but we had a flight at 8:30am, so didn't want to argue.

The second one was the worst. We had just got back from a holiday and booked an Uber to take us home. It's late and we've just come off a long flight with lots of luggage. The guy confirms the trip and we start walking towards the pick up zone (which is about a 5 min walk away from the terminal). As we get to the pick-up zone, I noticed he hasn't moved and then I get a call. The guy says he doesn't want to take us that far and that he needs me to cancel the trip, then hangs up on me. Now it's become clear to me that he doesn't want to cop the penalty for cancelling and wants me to do it instead. So I call him back and tell him that if he doesn't want to take us, he's the one that needs to cancel. He proceeds to abuse me and then Balks. I end up telling him that I'm happy to play chicken and that I've just ordered another Uber on my partner's app so if he wants another ride, then he will have to do it.

Waited another 10 mins and he finally gives up and cancels the ride while we hopped into another Uber.

Most drivers I've had have been pretty quiet and respectful. I've had a couple of retired or semi-retired people and quite a few mums as well.

I can understand not wanting to take huge trips to the other side of the city, but short trips I don't. If it's in the area, what does it matter?

Drove past the new Western Sydney airport on my way to work.

Entire area covered in fog to 8.15am. Can't say when the fog lifted.

Following on from the thick smoke for most of summer.

I was with my parents as they drove from Penrith to Liverpool around 1am.

It was foggy the whole trip and made it very difficult to drive.

How would a pilot go landing a plane?

You don't have to answer

1. I wouldn't have the foggiest idea.

OR

2. Driving on those roads is bad enough. Landing a plane would be worse.

Bed collapsed eh? Had you finished yet?

<Sigh> I expected this kind of shyte from some here but not from you Marron. It had been creaking for a while to be fair and my wife had been saying repeatedly for a while that it was going to go. But I have a 'meh, it'll be right' attitude to these things. When it fianlly went the wife did that thing where she shrieks, says something like 'i am impossible uuuggghhhhhh!' and then marched off with a duvet'.....before storming back in because she had forgotten something and then storming back out again.....

I am online looking for a replacement anyway/ I see you can get these hospital style ones now that you can press a button and they go up on the a comfy seating position.....sounds cool..

In our younger days our cheap bed collapsed, we have a more expensive  one now, but given how little “action” it sees it’s likely that we have acted after the horse has bolted

The ads about the drive thru covid-19 testing being fast and efficient....con job.

Dad decided he wasn't feeling that well, sore throat etc so we decided to try the drive thru at Penrith Paceway. Got there, big queue of 20 cars ea in two lanes....joined one lane but pulled out an hour later when only 6 in ea lane had been served.

Said to dad I'll take him to Nepean tomorrow.....rang first and found out the wait times. Tells me this arvo he's feeling better don't worry about it......lol
