Apparently the American guy who played for one of these teams puts his success down to his football (soccer) coaches from his junior days.

Seeing the play - I.e., anticipating where the ball will be, in a few passes time, and knowing how to lose your marker to get to where you need to be to make it happen, is very similar. Quick 1-2s, making runs to provide options and stretch defences. It's all part of it.

It's not surprising. If you went back in time 150 years to watch a game of association football, it would look a lot like AFL.

Well what do you know.

The Royals are in Sydney and the pictures are spectacular and beamed all around the world.

The Royals turn up in Melbourne and the best they have to offer is sticking a Sherrin in the hands of the Duchess of Sussex.

What a bunch of **** wits Victorians are.

And then there's Caroline Wilson who got paid off by Demitriou to trash Essendon if they didn't sack Hird otherwise her career is gone.

That journalist with the thick rimmed glasses who appears regularly on the AFL footy show would be talking about that story if it has/had any merit.

I'll remember his name later i'm sure.

The latest method to used to obtain government funding by the sporting organisation lobbyists. Hope the FFA have taken note and using the explosion in female participation on the back of the Matildas to lobby for funds.

Also found these lines from the article enlightening

The AFL is simply better organised and more effective.

Its annual schmoozing of politicians and journalists in Canberra has bought goodwill.

Former prime minister Tony Abbott's one-time adviser Jude Donnelly is now head of AFL government relations.

Dunno if 'Skippy Steve' is in here but I applaud your pro WSW anti GWS stance on that certain sports forum.

Especially in the face of absolute gems such as this

Yeh, nah, GWS’s Sydney ratings regularly beat the wanderers’ NATIONAL ratings.

Round 1 and there's already a video up of fans punching on at the MCG last night.

Obviously one incident is representative of the entire sport across the country so I expect any news articles today to back this up

This article is a follow up to the earlier post about linking government funding requests to women's sports teams

The FFA should use the success of the Matildas and increasing female participation to lobby the government for more funding.
