..... I think you said, "sotorio supporters". Is that correct?

Personally I'm a huge fan of Joshua! He has the uncanny ability to make even the most mediocre defender look like a superstar. He also provides hope to thousands of children that they too can play in the A League.

I love how Babbel has said that Aussie players need to play at their best every week. I think too often here we fall into the trap of many smaller football nations in that we fawn over our talent but let them get away with not showing it every week, most probably because there is no one to push them. And I think it’s magnified here because of the competition with other sports - we wanna talk up our guys a lot and don’t punish them for being inconsistent.

I also love his man management. If he can keep Roly playing like he is then I will give him the Wayne’s World “we’re not worthy” action. I truly thought Roly was beyond salvation.

..........and that is your opinion.

The merits of a post(s) is in the eyes of those reading it.

For example, take the forum's favourite Wanderer whipping boy........... Sotirio...........some may strongly suggest that he is overrated, can't play footballl and should be sent packing. Others disagree saying he has abilities and just needs a good coach to bring out the best. Some are saying his speed gives us an edge while others suggest his lack of passing is keeping the team down. I wouldn't criticise the persons making either opinions just because I was on one side of the debate and an opposite opinion didn't fit into the world as I see it. Is the coach right or wrong in keeping him in the squad..? Is the club or manager making the right decicsion in keeping him ? Should I tell all the Sotirio supporters to STFU because the guys a dud or on the other hand should we tell the non supporters to STFU because the guy isn;t a dud...?

My final comment on this, Sotirio is the longest serving player at the Wanderers, he has played 292 games.  Babel has had (now) 3 League games 6 competitive games as coach.  So I can see how making a judgement on 1 is equivalent to the other.

Josh Sotirio has played 86 games.

(I'm starting to believe the Wanderers member who has speculated  he is a former Death Eater and has had the entire coaching staff....past and present......under the Imperious Curse)

sorry that should have been 292 minutes not games (as i couldn't see which he started versus off the bench, my bad for that) I assumed he had photo's, but 3 different coaches, shook my belief in that one.

Technically this is about Sotirio so I didn't break my promise on last comment on this

And I've absolutely nothing against Sotirio. He doing his best. A better footballer than 99.99% of the general population. Good luck to him if he gets selected. Just imo he's not a very good player, has a terrible final ball and shouldn't be starting in our team.

I am in the same boat as well with Sotirio I don't think he is as bad as everyone says but its the same story every season since we first saw him in 2014 and he hasn't really progressed. He can run up and down all game, has a lot of speed to worry defences but once he gets to the final third he doesn't know what to do.

Lets compare to Kamau against Wellington who I would think is about as fast as Sotirio but with a better touch. Our first goal against Wellington he makes a smart run, has a good touch, bit of acceleration looks up sees ABJ and gives the assist.

Now Sotirio in the same position lets say he make that run, is the touch the same? and if it was I am 100% sure after watching for 4 years he would either lose the ball to his defender, run and lose control of the ball for a goal kick or take the shot and smack right at the goalkeeper. I don't think at any point he would make that pass to ABJ and that is what is holding him back for where he is now to where he wants to go (overseas) and us as fans makes us frustrated because it happens too often when we are in attack.

I think most of us who take the mickey out on Sotirio do it out of pure frustration where you are watching a game, he makes a run, a ball is passed to him. he gets in the clear, you are waiting for the cross or setup pass for a team mate, and it never arrives....game after game.

Now, I understand being on the sidelines watching is different to actually playing, I have to wonder if someone needs to do extra training drills with him because he hasn't changed over the period of time he has been playing for us. I had the same frustration with Jumpei. The guy would put in, but his final pass or finishing was woeful at time.

Maybe MB and his coaching team have already identified his strengths and weaknesses and are going to iron out those inconsistencies, but if he does not progress after xmas...........

Sotiro, always gives a 100%. He tries but unfortunately he just lacks the skill required for this level.

The best thing I can say about Sotirio is that he's probably better than me

sotirio would have had at least two assists from the sydney and perth games if riera wasn't struggling to put them away. good squaddie. better than kamau who loves to try and beat an opponent and takes one too many touches before it being taken from his feet - at least sotirio gives the boys a chance to catch their breath and re-set their defence when he puts the ball out for a goal kick.

He’d have had an assist against Sydney if he had put the ball in front of Reira not behind him.

I can usually look past a player's frustratingly bad end product when the effort is there and they cause general problems for the opposition. So far this season has been some of the worst shite iv'e seen from Sotirio. Besides 10 minutes before he got subbed in the perth game where he actually looked like a competent winger, he has been trash.

I can sometimes see the logic in playing Sotirio, adds pace, runs non stop, helps defend at the sacrifice of attack. BUT damn he has lost so much general possession in the last 3 games that the sacrific in attack has been for nothing. For every ball he has lost, we may as well play a less defensive minded attacker and simply retain the ball better.

I love the guy. He runs all day, yes his end product & general standard is not the greatest but he is a team player. Happy to play whatever role, take up minimum amount of the salary cap & works hard.

People are expecting him to put in the performance of a guy many times more than he is being paid. You can’t have 11 rieras or treejacks, you need to have a guy who is willing to do the dirty work & tireless running. Sotirio is our man. I’ll back the guy to the hilt & back.

Another reason he gets picked so often is the numbers he generates in training, his physical condition & work done on the training field. This is the reason why our last 4 coaches keep picking him & our fan base is none the wiser.

I'd rather a clumsy dm racking up yellow cards than a winger that wastes space

I suppose for your annual SAS meeting you only need a very very small venue and not order many sarnies in.....

Do you have car stickers?

I like this comment. But as you describe the player Sotirio for me is an impact player at best, because he is so quick but his end product is poor and his effectiveness is probably better suited when the opposition is tired at his current level. On the wingers we have available I do think Kamau and Fitzy bring more to our starting 11.

Babbel made a smart decision putting Roly at wing, pre-season was a bit strange seeing him there but he is better at the wing than in the center he takes defenders away from the center giving space to ABJ. Kamau was doing similar against Wellington so when you have your front thrid working in unison it stretches the opposition defences. I am not sure Sotirio has been able to do this consistently and generally he only has one defender that waits for him to lose the ball on his own.

Absolutely he is an 'impact' player who unfortunately doesn't make much of an impact :)

Small venue because they all work hard to try and get there but fail to reach the destination.

but those other matches dont count :P

dont get me wrong i think he will be better than gombau but he at least had a pre season with the team and he should be set to the exact same standard, dont make the finals then get the **** out of here, i do admit roly does look much better than he did last season but maybe if half the playing group didnt act like a bunch of whiny princesses and got on with playing football instead of throwing their toys out of the pram then maybe we would have made finals

Markus is meant to be this amazing coach but i have not seen any proof of that yet, Federico Piovaccari was meant to be an amazing player and how'd that work out for us? just because someone has been successful in the past doesnt mean they will be successful for us

he has coached 5 matches for us and how many wins?

It comes down to what’s in his contract surely? IIRC, it was a condition of Gombau’s contract that we made the finals in his first season. We didn’t, and the club exercised its option to terminate the contract.

Babbel has a 3 year contract. Whether he stays beyond the first year will no doubt come down to whatever KPIs are in his employment agreement.

that could be true honestly i want him to stay but that is all i want in terms of coaching staff just want stability and give someone time to build their own squad

JT explained at the members forum why gombau got sacked. Had he made the semis, or had he missed the finals but promoted youth players, he may have been able to hold on to his job. He didn't manage to do either.

The board considers the youth academy the crown jewel. Gombau ignored that, babbel isn't.
