mack
I wonder if Ante Milicic is going to stay on past the 2018 AFC U19 Championship. I suppose he probably would if they qualify for the U20 2019 World Cup. If they fail and he stays on that's just career treading water. Link to comment

btron3000
I was gonna find another thread for this, but what they hey, may as well put it here: https://www.foxsports.com.au/football/former-socceroos-coach-ange-postecoglou-under-pressure-in-japanese-gig/news-story/94e130822bb3a31cac25c32389f1ad2e “Postecoglou’s attacking-minded style has been a feature, with Yokohama boasting the second most league goals (36) across 22 games this season. But there’s little for the Marinos to gloat about at the other end, conceding 40 goals as the competition’s leakiest defence.” Link to comment
btron3000
There is an international window in about 3 weeks and another in early October. Do we have any games?? Link to comment
luisenrique
Well I for one am shocked that Ange's team has the worst defence in the j-league. Shocked I tell ya. Paul01, matty and Unlimited 3 Link to comment
Davo
They just announced this but it's in the November break, so no Socceroos games in the September or October breaks. Edit: it actually says first game on Australian soil, so I guess we could play away. Edited August 20, 2018 by Davo wendybr 1 Link to comment
wendybr
I hope Jackson Irvine can do a bit of this for our NT! https://www.insidesport.com.au/news/irvine-thrilled-with-first-ever-double-500643 Link to comment
btron3000
Jackson Irvine geez. I hope he can bag some goals for the NT too Wendy but if we're relying on him we're in trouble. The guy has good energy and brings some spark to a team when he comes on, but that's it. He's not international standard. When you look around at the teams at major tournaments that bring players like him from the Championship level, they're always the ones that don't get our of their groups or when they do it's a shock. Even our 06 team was full of guys playing at the top level. We're never gonna get back to repeating their feat if Jackson Irvine is our hope. wendybr 1 Link to comment

He was cut from the Brisbane Roar NYL team and went to the Netherlands. Ajdin Hrustic was selected for Socceroos by Postecoglou. He plays at Groningen Unlimited 1 Link to comment

Good to see he is not afraid to bring in new, young guys. For all of Ange's talk of building a squad, for some strange reason he seemed to stick with a few dudes who he trusted and we never heard of many of these other guys, particularly young guys who were playing in lower leagues, reserves teams etc overseas. Some players have claimed they weren't even scouted. Say one thing about Arnie - he's got a pretty good network. He recruited well to the smurfs, and he also seems to know the young up and coming Aussies regardless of where they are in the world. wendybr 1 Link to comment

Postecoglu did choose a certain Massimo Luongo and James Meredith from league one, Ikonomidis was in Lazio reserves and chose other randoms as well in his first two years. The last two years he settled on his own team which is why no new faces came around, Arnold is doing the same. wendybr and btron3000 2 Link to comment

Especially given what Ange was sprouting. You can't go talking about being forward-thinking if you are afraid to find new talent. wendybr 1 Link to comment
