Will be interesting to see when the dust clears a bit thought. The reinforcements that would normally be used take direct orders from the Prez, so they were outnumbered, because there's no way the Prez was sending them in. It took Pence to get help from the look of it.

 

Having said that - opening the gates, taking selfies, guiding them helpfully out - there's no way in hell that happens if they're black.

Apparently only the President or the Secretary of Defence have the authority to mobilise the National Guard. According to SecDef he made the call in consultation with Pence and congressional leaders, but not Trump.

There’s a lot of talk of removing Trump from office with the 25th amendment going around in the media. The VP is the one who needs to initiate that so it’s interesting that Pence seems to be working with the cabinet on one side to manage the situation while Trump is on the other side riling up the crowd that was filmed chanting “hang Mike Pence”.

I’ve seen a few of the rioters wearing Revolutionary War style clothes while breaking into the Capitol.

That war was to end having a monarch who was above the law and instead democratically elect their head of state. Which side do these guys think they’re on?

Republicans lawmakers in the House and the Senate who egged on Trump and abetted his claim of electoral fraud by suggesting they would vote against the certification of the election are all of a sudden finding the balls to back off and denounce what they themselves encouraged..

Well you may think you got your balls back from Trump but people will still see the fingerprints.

I cannot believe that such an unhinged, and dare I say it, mentally unstable person ever became the President of the US.

There is only one person to blame for what is happening now. It's unfortunate that he has 10's of millions of loyal followers.

Anyway, he's going to need to find a new way to communicate now that his Twitter account has been suspended for 12 hours, and then permanently if he doesn't remove 3 recent tweets.

For all the hand wringing by Republicans, when it came to the house vote on whether to accept the Arizona election results Republicans voted 121-83 to reject them. Dems all voted to accept.

They filmed the woman being shot. It looked like the Secret Service had barricaded a door to evacuate Pence and she tried to jump though on her own. Secret Service aren’t there to play games.

Trump should be removed from office via the 25th amendment before the 20th Jan, this would be a fitting end for someone who was never fit to be President, he is clearly unhinged and believes his own lies lol

It was a bizarre situation outside the capitol building wasn't it. On the TV pictures showing the steps outside the building it shows police are holding the line, then they seem to turn away as one and run in to the building, basically surrendering access to the crowd. It is astonishing that the mob managed to get as far inside the building as they did when we know both the police and secret service would be armed. You would have expected a much greater show of force outside the building.

Trump should be charged for inciting a mob and the police should seriously review their major government building security protocols. It should never have gotten that far

It is going to take years for America to heal from the division of the Trump years. Very sad.

Yep - turn and run, because they know they are outnumbered and are not going to be getting any help. You seen the footage of the one guy on his own running up the stairs with the mob behind him?

BUT -  not so astonishing that the mob still goes in knowing the cops and secret service are armed - because they don't get shot. Many of them will have been at rallies and out on the streets with their guns "protecting" businesses etc during BLM protests earlier in the year; they KNOW they won't get shot at.

You can guarantee the one that DID get shot today, that the narrative will be twisted around that it was either an antifa inside job (because that stuff about the whole thing being antifa won't hold up for long), or something of that nature.

If the UK you would have a solid line of police with helmets on and shield wall locked together with batons ready to go. The police would pick out someone at random at the front, whack them on head..a gap would open up in the wall and they would be dragged through and dealt with..the rest would see this and back away pretty quick..or get the same...

Just incredible to see the mess the steps outside the building.
