The first part of that is a bit odd, given that the UK gave Germany the chance to withdraw from Poland and that would have stopped WW2 before it even began. Churchill's "deliberation" about a surrender/peace deal in 1940 wasn't about if he wanted to fight or not (Churchill never wanted to surrender or ask for a peace deal), it was about the political manuvering that he needed to ensure the country kept fighting.

The rest is just victim blaming garbage, retreading the same lines that were used to discredit MLK and the civil rights movement.

I'm sure ole Joe would have been writing letters telling the French to knock it off with all the beheadings because it would only strength the monarchist movement. He's also the exact type of bland neocon that would say "Kapernick shouldn't be doing a kneeling protest". It's all rubbish, people like Joe will always come up with a reason to discredit protest movements. Not because "they're scared that it makes the 'left' protests look bad in the eyes of the conservatives" but because he simply doesn't give a ****, he will never accept protests against capitalist & racist ideology.

I read it differently ..... as for Kapernick I could be wrong but I think he wrote an article in praise of his stance...

Being involved over the years in a number of protests my experience has been if you overplay your hand you give the other side for want of a better team the upper hand and the advantage and that's what I read into the article...

He's saying they shouldn't protest because it might lead to an authoritarian government (because "socialism" i guess).

Meanwhile trump is using the military to crack down on his people, destroying the free press, getting rid of any independent oversight over government he can manage.

Joe's a ****in idiot middy.

No I agree with Middy. What Joe seems to be condemning is violence and riots, not the protesters and it’s true to say that the riots do damage to the cause of the protesters because it demonstrates that people should be fearful. That’s why the rioters were not necessarily out of control protesters but they were extremist groups, including the far right and the far left because their goal is the descent into anarchy rather than the improvement of society.

It's bollocks.

We saw it in our own city on Saturday.

The vast majority are doing it peaceful, but the cops go to antagonise and make sure Sky is there to make the headlines. That feeds in to people's perceptions, and Joe (and many many others) are happy to continue these perceptions and pretend like the anarchists are hugely powerful and able to collapse society and we should definitely be scared and absolutely just do what we are told by authorities right now.

The other part is, that rioting is a reaction to the authoritarianism that already exists. Being patient and trying to get things changed through democratic channels leads to nothing changing. We haev seen that for decades. Which of course is what Joe wants.

I mean look.

He is making an equivalence between

-the systemic discrimination and murder of minority groups

-middle class people getting upset because of civil unrest which is being compounded by an increasingly authoritarian leader.

**** George Floyd. Won't somebody think of the small business owner whose window got smashed? (Of course, they are only important to Joe because true change will come if you get them onside and they can vote in a Democratic candidate who is slightly left of Biden. Yeah, I believe that, nice one Joe, that's the way).

I agree with you but it doesn't take much for extremists on the left or right to infiltrate ( ? ) a movement that is in opposition to  their belief system and try and cause chaos from within or take actions to discredit it. This happening in a lot of places.....not just the US.

Note there's no mention of the far right infilitration - these guys setting fires and stuff - in Joe's article. It's all these lefty student types who are doing the damage.

Not to mention his history is plenty wonky. What's he even trying to say with that stuff?

People like Joe care more about insured property than they care about people being murdered by the police.

a total and complete prick, he also will say anything for money.

I suspect he doesn’t believe most of what he writes

He knows how to write an article that will push all the right news Ltd (Culture war) approved buttons.

I couldn’t finish that drivel I started scanning after his bong smoking art student line

A bit of both really....the current US regime has the ability to shaft it's allies at a moments notice whilst the UK was solely focused on Brexit so they dropped the ball with the Coronavirus due to having 2nd rate politicians in their cabinet, a Charlatan as PM an an unelected official calling all the big shots...Chaos on both sides of the Atlantic !!

Almost unbelievable Fox did this graph and even more so that they broadcast it.. they said sorry but defies description.

They needed a backlash before they realised this was disgusting? I wonder what they would have thought if a graph was made of the stock market following murders of white men. FFS the stupidity and the irrelevance!
