Maybe, he's not a leader, I think Elrich did alright as captain last night but he too was no leader, I think if/when Risdon returns, I think he should take the captain's armband or hand it over to Roly.

I think Roly has stepped up and displayed good fighting spirit in front of the kids in the last couple of matches.

 Great discussion on referee selection

Here are some points for you guys

The A-league referees panel is the top panel in the country with the various NPL panels under that. The selection of the various panel is based on knowledge of the Laws of the Game, fitness (beep tests) and the Ben Wilson criteria for central referees, being tall. There are some really good referees who end up as Assistant Referees because of their height.

The VAR in Australia is based in Sydney similar to the NRL system. In NZ, it is based at the ground. Griffiths-Jones is the main VAR as you said, lives in Sydney, and is Head of Referees at Football NSW.

On Suman, he has not made the U19 Australian team as the powers that be rate the Melbourne City and Smurf Youth Keepers but is the first one to make an A-league start.

Fwiw,  Ziggy was out injured and we look so much better with him on.

Just to add, my eldest was asked to officiate as an AR with a Football NSW referee for a school game (Bill Turner). He did not like how the guy in centre didn't call blatant fouls and would only call a foul if there was a complaint.

The A-League refs and and the Football NSW don't call every foul because they have been told to let the game flow, so there is definitely "group think" with obvious fouls and foul throws let go.

Allegedly a good pod!

Great work.

Went from great to good when the fact that Hamill is suspended this round was missed.

Plus the nix  Game at Campbelltown is because of a Maori festival all over NZ so no grounds were available when the season schedule was set. Plus who was to know that Rudan would do a Popa at the Nix.

And where was the game summary on the friendly with Guangzhou R &F?

No but some of the guys were there.

The little that was said was that Bridge was gassed after 5 minutes, and replaced Fitzgerald. The rest of the team must have been the NPL team up against Dembele and co.

Wasn't a whole lot to talk about re: the Guangzhou R&F game. The youth plus Fitzgerald looked quite threatening at times against Guangzhou in the first half and also defended quite well under pressure. Come second half, it was a totally different story - Guangzhou figured themselves out a little bit and went for it and pull us to pieces.

3 goals conceded in the second half.

As you can tell, we don't spend much time on the preview much these days. And the teams ins/outs are always released on the Thursday after we record.

RE: Nix. its hard enough keeping up to date with the above suspensions of our own team let alone cultural festivals in another country lol. Really its an easy fix. WTF is Nix having a home game scheduled when grounds aren't available?

Re: GR&F - it was a closed door game and a couple of us attended. The brief mention of it was all that was taken from the game. Can't do a proper analysis of a behind closed doors friendly with the NPL squad ;)
