1-1 VAR strikes again

Fornaroli wins a soft free kick on the edge of the area but VAR shows vision that the foul was clearly inside the area

Referee awards penalty and the City fullback scores from the rebound after Thomas makes a save

Hectic two minutes

also showed it was clearly not a foul...

Hearing the half-time chat, it's all on Kurt Ams.

Maybe, but there is no way the ref should be going over to check things on a little tv on the sideline. You've got a bunch of dudes in a box watching huge high def tvs with all sorts of controls, and the ref has to look at a screen on the sideline. The ref now has a worse view than you and I. It's daft.

If you're going to use VAR, then it has to be up to the dudes in the box to overturn and only when clear and obvious error.

Looks like Corica's got a touch of the Arnies with his "we dominated and deserved to win" comment.

There have been a couple of moments where he seemed to be forcing the bullish attitude, sort of going against his normal personality, like he remembered he had to act like that.  Heres hoping it comes crashing down for him and he gets stuck trying to be something he's not.

They did

Personally, I think it’s the way to go. Referee should retain all authority on all calls - VAR is assisting, not deciding.

As much as FIFA want to bang on about the ref making all the decisions, its BS.  The VAR makes a decision to refer back to the referee, so they are part of the decision making process.  THEN the ref determines if its a clear and obvious error.  It's unnecessary, it adds way too much time to the process, it interrupts the game, AND it means the ref is now trying to doublecheck his own decision with substandard technology.

If the decisions are only overturned when "clear and obvious error" then why do you need the original ref to decide? Clear and obvious should be clear and obvious to everyone. And they can be checked by VAR on the run.

Also, how easy is it to see "clear and obvious" on a tv on the sideline? As soon as you start using technology you are obliged to use the best technology you can.
