I go to Darwin fairly regularly for work and everytime i'm there i'm surprised at the almost hidden level of football support.

They get overrun with AFL, who seem to think it's their area - and last 2 times i've been there i've seen 'NRL development' 4wd's convoying around the city. Prob related to the eels match they have up there once a season.

But there's definite football support there, they can support a 2nd division side, A League might be a stretch in 2019.

Hey Hawks,

You aren't the dude I watched a couple of matches with at the casino last year by any chance? Anyway, if you ever fancy a beer when you are up here drop me a line.

Agree that football is well supported in Darwin. I reckon the FFA Cup matches get one of the best crowds in the country and you see heaps of kids wearing their kits around town on the weekends .  One area I believe there is a lot of undeveloped potential is with the Aboriginal kids.  There is definitely talent there, if only it can be nurtured.

Hellenic, who gave us a fright in last years FFA Cup round in Darwin, have been poaching a lot of the top players from other clubs in the league might have a chance of winning a game in next year's Cup depending on the draw.

Definitely reckon South Melbourne should have been given a license in front of this mob,

With the change of the NCIP recently could South Melbourne replace Western United if there season flops and the backers pull out?? So South Melbourne and SWS could come straight in the following season, that's if they wanted another Melb team otherwise i really wanted to see Canberra get in sooner rather then later.

Starting to think they got their directions mixed up with this bid. Instead of no mans land in the West somewhere between Melbourne and Geelong with no regional identity, if they had looked East Dandenong would have been much better, as it is a separate city but sill connected to Melbourne, kind of how Parramatta is to Sydney.

The Team 11 bid was Dandenong/Casey based. FFA chose West Melbourne because they said they had the cash and approval to build their own stadium, whereas Team 11 was reliant on Government funding. Time will tell whether the decision was correct (I favoured Team 11 due to existing infrastructure/location and the local council support).

Surely south Melbourne could have been preferred due to them having a ground that exists rather than a good sketch up model of a ground

In that sense yes.  But then you would have 3 clubs located in the centre of Melbourne within a few kilometres of each other, none really representing a geographical area. To me that would only exacerbate the existing issues with attracting new supporters.

All these signings and no head coach.

It's going to be a Gombau-Wow shed with all those squaddies trying to work out how they fit in with a gaffer hired after they are

Only a short drive across from Adelaide for Kurz...

Im sure the other day I was just talking about Pasquali and how he was the latest in the line of great Aussie hopes to go overseas and what happened

well seems like most of our kids he couldn’t crack it

excited to see what type of player he has become

disappointed to see him back which means another player for whatever reason couldn’t crack Europe
