Australian National Teams Thread 5: The Next Generation

We shouldn't need to be "shocked out of our arrogance", recent youth results and the failure at the last Asian Cup should be enough for that.

The problem is our current coach is the most arrogant prick in Australian football. We was arrogant before the Asian Cup in 2007, he was arrogant before the Beijing Olympics, he was arrogant before every failed SFC ACL campaign and he was arrogant before the 2015 Asian Cup.

And he's backed up by his mates in the media who lobbied to replace Ange and then lobbied to install Arnold into the job.

Agree for the most part. Just a note that I reckon most of Arnies arrogance is put-on and just his attempt at confidence.

So has Robbie Slater blocked you yet?

3-0 after 30min...this could get really ugly for Honda and his team.

Game in 2 days so multiple changes expected.

Maybe Majok gets a start. Gersbach probably just arrived so probably starts. Arnold played Brandon Wilson MF as a centreback and captain last night.

To qualify for the actual tournament,  we need the team to score more than Korea Republic did against Chinese Taipei

Majok scores twice! 2-0 up against Taiwan after 25 minutes.

Looks increasingly likely that top spot is going to come down to the Australia vs South Korea game. 2nd place in the group still has a good shot at going through but that's going to be a gamble.

If Dutton and ilk had their way neither would have been allowed on.

6-0. Waring has two now I think.

Majok should have got a hat-trick earlier in the game as well.

Are you sure? We are currently ranked best of the 2nd place positions but that may not be so after we play South Korea.

From what I can see, all the games are

1 v 2 and 3 v 4

So there shouldn't be any movement unless a 2nd ranked team beats a first ranked team.

Group A Qatar v Oman

Group B Palestine v Bahrain

Group C Iran v Iraq

Group D UAE v Saudi Arabia

Group E jordan v Syria

Group F uzbekistan v Tajikistan

Group G North Korea v Hong Kong (Singapore have a shot if yuey beat Mongolia, and Nth Korea draw with Hong Kong)

Group H Korea Rep v Australia

Group I Japan v Myanmar (Myanmar have a GD of +4 on the and ranked table)

Group J China v Malaysia

Group K Thailand v Vietnam

Yes  it's all 1 v 2 etc. Funny that eh! And except for group F (only 3 teams) and group G all 1 & 2 are on 6 points. However, because Pakistan withdrew from group F, results in other groups against whoever finishes 4th in the group won't count in determining the best 2nd place finishers (but of course will count in determining the winner in the repective groups).

So, if say we lose and all the other 1 v 2 are draws, for the purpose of determining the best 2nd places, we will be credited with 3 points and all(?) of the other 2nds will have 4 points! And if we draw, we will be 2nd on goal difference but which of Cambodia and Taipei will be last?

I reckon it's all still to play for.
