If the A-league refs blew it for 4 rounds it would stop. It should be judged by the on-field ref. Edinburgh 1 Link to comment

Georgievski was certainly in the box BEFORE the ball was touched. Indirect Free Kick to the Mariners should have been the outcome, not a retake. Link to comment
mack
It was a retake because there were Mariners players inside the box as well. Link to comment

I can't say I know the exact FIFA rules around encroachments into the box at penalties, but your ruling seems to make more sense than what actually was ruled yesterday. If an attacking team player encroaches and then scores with the help of the benefit gained from breaking the rules, why should they get rewarded for it by being able to re-take the penalty? mack
An attacking player only encroaching is weird because it has two punishments for the offence that depend on the result of the pen. If the pen is scored but an attacker only encroaches it has to be retaken, but if it's missed then the defensive team get an indirect free kick. When both teams encroach it's retaken regardless of the result. Paul01 1 Link to comment

A second look from the TWG clip seems to show one defender in before Georgievski. But there can be no advantage if there was an encroachment if the goal is not scored. Kennedy is not that far off his line compared to the Brazilian women's keeper in Olympics against the Matilda's. Link to comment

Agree with this although it's too late in the season now. Before next season starts the FFA could put out a directive that every penalty will be checked by VAR for encroachment and the letter of the law will be applied every time. A team will lose a goal once because of it (probably us because VAR) and it won't happen again. Then Mack can switch focus to #FreeKickInTheWrongSpotWatch or #FoulThrowWatch. Paul01 1 Link to comment
