Australia today nay Australian governments today are caught in a kinda no matter what they do it is wrong pertaining to the China V USA relationship.

There is no doubt China very aggressive moves in recent times i.e. Indian broader, South China Sea, Hong Kong, add various threats of trade to European countries as well as Australia...

The USA under Trump but even before Trump was in real trouble as the widening gap between the poor and the rich became a chasm, add the increasingly gun sales, add the police forces buying ex military equipment and as recent vids show a number of police out of control.

Indonesia has the worlds fourth largest army on our doorstep. We are friends with them  but still they have a mega size army and 273 million people...

Hopefully we can get away from a Labour / Liberal discussion and accept whether this is So MO or Albo its not easy...

My gut tells me behind the scenes they both agree on a way forward and essentially that is to look for new markets and increase manufacturing in Australia... but that is much easier said than done...

I doubt in my lifetime I have ever seen the USA like it is today ...

In the lead up to the election in November I can only see Trump ramping it up even more and somehow we need to as much as possible stay neutral.

Chinese international students defend Australia as a 'safe place' to study
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-06-10/chinese-international-students-defend-australia/12340820

I asked my kids (Chinese Internationals) if any of them had seen, heard of or experienced anything racist.

Mercifully none had.

They did say people back home asked them about it, and we're worried for them.

It's NSW's 2nd biggest "export" industry, Victoria's No 1, and Australia's 3rd biggest, after iron ore and coal.

Rightly or wrongly.

Hopefully these students don't get persecuted when they return home for not towing the party line.

Think they'd be a few hundred thousand too many of them to do that!

And their families probably might kick up a bit of a fuss. They tend to love them! ;)

I knew you weren't serious! Just mucking around.

Most of the kids I teach are very cynical about their govt...but wouldn't know much about their past dark deeds. Or their current ones for that matter. ;)

Don't blame the other states for wanting to exclude the Eastern states, tbh. For a bit longer.

HHHHHMMmmmmmm

amazing how pollies play with numbers... like NSW has been free more days than QLD for cases spread by locals... all of our recent cases come from overseas folk returning home ...

The ACT has had no broader closures and aside from NT has the longest free time.

Sydney in particular and then Melbourne are the cities most people come to when returning from overseas..

WA & QLD premiers scream and shout but take almost zero travelers returning from overseas...

COMMUNITY TRANSMISSION  https://covidlive.com.au/

Days Since Last Unknown Contact

VIC  5 days

OLD 16 Days

NSW 18 Days ... note the last community case was a traveler from QLD.

TAS 35 Days

WA 49 Days

SA 57 Days

ACT 63 Days .... Note no boarders closed

NT no cases

Sure sure.

We are seemingly doing well.

I'll relax in another week if last weekend's protests bring no cases here...or elsewhere.

Victoria has the virus a bit more active than here...it seems, although their numbers are small.

Such bad timing all these...

I would normally be celebrating the protests...and probably joining them.

But Morrison's statement is unrealistic....and I doubt if the majority of MLM protestors would take his appeals/threats too seriously. More likely they will goad a reaction from youthful protestors, who will develop a taste for street marches!

https://www.msn.com/en-au/news/australia/i-don-t-have-a-superman-cape-police-commissioner-hits-back-at-scott-morrison-after-pm-said-all-black-lives-matter-protesters-should-be-charged-for-breaking-public-health-rules/ar-BB15krRB?ocid=spartan-dhp-feeds

PS Next time there are street protest for Climate Action (which I have participated in MANY times) I hope they get active again. :xnod:

And the far right are now a major threat

Extreme right-wing groups 'exploiting' COVID-19, Australian spy agency warns http://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-06-12/asio-briefing-warns-far-right-is-exploiting-coronavirus/12344472

good article .... far right  groups have always been in Australia especially in QLD ... back in the 30's governments were very concerned and when I think it was Jack Lang was to cut the ribbon to open the harbour bridge a far right .... Lang was about to cut the ribbon to formally open the bridge, when de Groot rode forward and drew his ceremonial sword, making to cut the ribbon and declare the bridge open "in the name of the decent and respectable people of New South Wales".

They always come out when there is a problem...
